Chapter 7 Full Moon

Zoey's POV

"...no, Count Chocula's!" I yelled as Rose joined us.

Most of the students were still in their pajamas, even though it was nine pm already. Saturdays were my favorite days, we always slept in.

Guardian Belikov let Rose eat something in the living area with us. Surprisingly, she made three sandwiches and brought a family size bag of chips that she refused to share with anyone and brown pop. Guardian Belikov slipped out a few minutes ago without a reason but left two other guardians watching Rose.

"Nu uh, Lucky Charms Z. Nothin' beats that sugary goodness." Stevie Rae said.

"No-"

"Shut up already!" Erin interrupted.

"Yeah nobody cares about your 'debate'." Shaunee finished. I grew used to their twin thinking long ago.

"Now twin, I don't think it's a debate."

"Yeah nobody cares about your 'debate'." Shaunee finished.

"Now twin, I don't think it's a debate." Erin said sweetly.

"You're right it's a stupid argument that nobody wins!" I saw the door open and Dimitri walk through with boxes in his hands. "You both have separate opinions, don't clash them."

"Donuts!" Rose screamed, bouncing up from her place in front of the television. There was two sandwich left on her plate.

Everyone turned their heads toward where Rose ended up and surprisingly

Dimitri entered the dorm with four boxes I suspected held the donuts she screamed about.

"I thought everyone needed some sugar for tonight."

"Why, what's tonight?"

"The ritual." I said suddenly everything fell into place.

Seeing as it was Saturday, nobody had classes. Rose still had her training sessions and her chapel duties today. That smile on her face after her three hours of training, well four today, was undeniable. What happened that made her so happy?

Rose's POV

"But I'm starving, can't I eat something first?" I complained to Dimitri on my last night of chapel duty.

"Fine, if you make your food you can eat it. You have a lot to do today and you need your energy." His eyes found mine, "Don't forget, the ritual is at midnight."

His eyes softened when he looked at me. I jumped into his arms without thinking and hugged him. Before he could argue, or take it back, I backed out and skipped to the fridge. Out of the corner of my eye, Dimitri told two Guardians to watch me while he did some Guardian business. Curiously, I tried edging closer but Dimitri walked away and out the door quickly. I shrugged, whatever it was, it was important.

I found lunch meat in the fridge and made three sandwiches and searched the cabinets for junk food. Most of the things in the cabinets are healthy food so it took me a while to find a family size bag of actual chips. Before I walked into the living area where everyone was, I grabbed a can of non-diet soda and balanced everything in my arms, careful not to let anything fall.

"...no, Count Chocula's!" I heard Zoey yell as I sat down.

Most of the students were still in their pajamas, even though it was nine pm already. Saturdays were my favorite days, we always slept in. Well, I couldn't. I had my scheduled training times and it was the only day I could catch up on the homework I put off.

I knew I surprised a few people with the amount of food I brought out and probably more so when I refused to share anything with anyone.

"Nu uh, Lucky Charms Z. Nothin' beats that sugary goodness." Stevie Rae said. I rolled my eyes and took and bite out of my sandwhich.

"No-" Zoey started.

"Shut up already!" Erin interrupted.

I recently began accepting they are the same person and decided not to call them "twins". They needed to have some kind of individuality.

"Donuts!" I screamed as I recognized what the boxes held.

Bouncing up from my position in front of the television, I ran to Dimitri. There was two sandwich left on my plate that I had to eat later. I felt everybody follow me with their eyes, but I did not care. Anyone who gave me donuts was my best friend. And the fact that he had four dozen, made everything that much better.

"I thought everyone needed some sugar for tonight." He briefly said. I never told him about my love for donuts but he figured it out all by himself. I smiled a soft, real smile.

"Why, what's tonight?" Lissa asked, completely forgetting the ritual.

"The ritual." Zoey said.

Seeing as it was Saturday, nobody had classes, but I still had more training sessions and chapel duties today. I knew I was smiling after my four hours of training (Dimitri added another hour on the weekends which I did not mind—mainly due to this stupid crush I began developing) but I had a good reason.

"If things keep going at the same pace with your training," Dimitri said as he ran with me today, unlike usual, "you will catch up with your class no problem."

"Yeah? Maybe I don't want our training to stop. Maybe I'm holding back," I lied. I actually was giving it all I had to impress the god-like man.

"Rose," hegave me a sideways glance that I returned. Somehow he knew I was lying. "I'm just say comrade, you never know, Comrade."

I tried pushing him over but that man had much more muscle than I did. Thankfully, I did not use my hands, I used my full body weight. I knocked him off balance but he did not fall over. As a Guardian, we are not supposed to be caught off guard and the only time Dimitri lowered his was with me. I refined from laughing because right now I had to run as much as I could so he would not catch up with me. As soon as he regained his balance, he chased after me. I ran with all my might but when I realized he was not following me anymore, it was too late. I looked back and instead of seeing him, I saw an empty track. The next thing I know, Dimitri has me pinned on the track, using his body weight to keep me there. I tried escaping but his grip was inescapable.

"Now Roza, that wasn't nice." Roza was my Russian nickname and he rarely used it.

"It was funny." His eyes held laughter, true happiness.

His grip on me quickly changed to a more intimate grip and his face lowered to mine, giving me plenty of time to say no. I did not want him to stop and he didn't. Our lips met and I was lost to reality-

"Yup." Dimitri's voice brought me back to the present. "Rose, you have to help set up for the ceremony tonight. Hurry up, you don't want to be late. And Zoey, Neferet wants you and your circle to be there by eleven."

"Okay thanks," Zoey said as I stuffed one of the donuts in my mouth.

After I finished my food, and some chips, I grabbed a box of donuts that held five and followed Dimitri to the chapel. Most of my chapel detention time Dimitri worked with me, occasionally stirring up a conversation or two. I did the majority of the talking but today I made him talk about his family.

"...and my grandma has strong beliefs that probably sound sexist to you." I waited for him to continue. "She thinks all the men in the family should become Guardians and the women, when they have children, should stay at home to raise their family, but everyone should put in time with the Guardians. That's why I had to leave Russia." Actually, it did not sound that sexist to me.

"What happened in Russia?"

"A Strigoi killed the Moroi I was assigned to."

I gasped, "Were you on..."

"No, I was away. Ivan and I met in school and we were friends. He always told me I had to loosen up."

Well, at least someone else believed that too. "I'm sorry." Thinking quick, I remembered the novel he was reading and how I forgot to tease him about it. "I know you want to put on a cowboy hat and keep lawless bank robbers in line."

He gave me one of his half smiles, "No time. I have enough trouble keeping you line." I laughed.

I will have the ritual and the rest of this night up soon! Things finally calmed down so I can update a lot more :). Who else is excited for Vampire Academy's early release date?
