((blah blah blah disclaimer blah blah, no I haven't forgotten this I just had another kid and health problems so I'm late go figure)
It had taken time to secure the right areas for the under caverns and much more testing with the help of the Cullens to make sure the place was sound proof to their kind, the area were built and allowed to over grow quickly after the settlements were finished. The chosen place for the Cullens and a few humans as well as some of the Cullens vampire allies was in a place north of Yellowstone's super volcano on the Canadian border. The geothermal energies fueled the power plants and the hydroponics systems were used to keep the plants and fish alive. There was satellite surveillance available to them as the very last thing they did before sealing off the compound under what looked like a mine explosion and cave in was to launch the new satellite, Sebastian's company was done no more money to give but there were safe colonies throughout the world only a few ten at most but they were hidden very well from the vampires that ran rampant through the land killing and decimating the humans to make their new armies and vie for power. The secret was out and humans were no longer ignorant to the knowledge that they were not the top predators on the planet.
Ten years had flown by in the blink of an eye and two of the ten colonies had been wiped out one in a natural disaster, the lava tube that supplied the geothermals was filled with Lava and the people had to evacuate. The slaughter was horrendous but there was one person in each safe colony that knew of the location of the other safe places. These men and women were fiercely loyal to the cause of protecting humanity and would suicide before they would give away the locations, though if possible they could lead the survivors to a haven of sorts, emergency rations buried for such instances. The second colony suffered a coup at the hands of religious radicals, the few that weren't killed in the fights were stupid they left the colony and were also slaughtered, one was turned and this would be the catalyst to the Cullens and the sworn to resurface and start the cleansing. Once the secret of the colonies was out there was no choice but to do damage control and leave the safety of their underground homes for the surface, time had come for the reckoning.
One armed Caius was leading the main group of aggressors, after the first few years the newborns were killed off to preserve the food source their voracious appetites made it too hard to keep a stable human population for food. Those with abilities rose to the top quickly, the strong ruling the weak, the old ones had their own following of which Caius was perhaps the greatest. He was almost like a roman emperor now, his control lower Europe and the middle east was seemingly unshakable. Of Aro there were whispers but nothing was ever confirmed, now the vampires in certain areas the smart ones were farming humans like humans farmed cattle, fiercely protecting their stock from poachers, ruling over the frightened humans like monsters. Some few vampires had taken the vegetarian route they were secluded on islands and smaller out of the way places less populated by humans and therefore less populated by those that hunted them, given the opportunity these vampires would still take human blood over animals but cowards must take their lot.

The sound of grinding coming from the ground was heard far and wide like a huge colony of prehistoric moles were trying to surface. The ground shook as one glistening arm came from the ground into the light, it was soon followed by a monstrous furred arm several feet away. As the sun reached the mid point between noon and sunset the path was cleared and the huge wolflike beast stood close to the glistening man something unheard of since the purge of the moon children by Caius. Canin looked about cautious and careful, the beast did the same scenting the air and waiting for any sign of others.
" you're clear, I don't hear anyone at all not in any direction." Edward walked out with his usual unhurried grace something that brought a curl to the beasts lip. Varlaam would not have sided with the blood drinkers if it had not been for her, the chance meeting was strange for him, he happened upon the group as they were preparing to go below for the last time and in the midst of the group, like iron drawn to a lodestone there his gaze was drawn to the silent woman standing beside the large vampire. He had charged without thinking skin becoming fur bones breaking and snapping as he shifted to better battle his hated enemy, the world seeming to slow and become heavy was not in his plan, and he was smashed to the ground by the large blood drinker waiting for the death blow so easy to deliver. The blow never came instead he was treated to a pir of compassionate eyes looking down at him with regret and sorrow, he would give anything to take that look away even to this day his chosen still had that pain in her gaze, only now he knew why.
Reaching the surface the group were quick to do what they could to seal off the area, the beast spread some fur and blood on the ground to give a battle scene credit as the others filled in the ground doing their best to hide the entrance and those left within. Trees were planted over the broken ground one or two smashed and left on the side as if uprooted by a battle, the best cover for the time being.
" so where to first, whose ass to we kick into shape first, north or south, east or west?" Emmett always eager for a battle couldn't wait to get started, ten years of mock fights was no fun to him anymore.
The next voice was quiet, one not heard often in the last ten years she had spoken less than a hundred words in that whole time. " We start in the north work our way down as we clear the area, we will need to seek out the hidden ones first build our numbers then we take it south to the bad lands and the wars there."
The scene had been set the future a mass of possibilities any one leading to victory or certain defeat only time and luck would tell the rest of the tale.
