Moving On?

"That's fantastic." Ronnie spoke into his mobile as he walked along the street outside the CPS building. "I am so pleased, thanks for letting us know." He paused. "Yes Guv. I'll tell Matt. We're at the CPS now, just left. I'll go back in and tell James and the others. You think Kate will be up to visitors other than Jacob Thorne?"

"Maybe." Natalie sighed as she looked out of her office window to see Wes and Angie in deep conversation. "Take it easy though. The accused is her sister. It's sensitive."

"I can do sensitive." Ronnie paused. "I reckon. My ex wives might disagree."

"Ronnie." Natalie stated.

"Ok, ok. Look, Matt has finally emerged from the building. I'll tell 'im the good news." He ended the call as Matt raised an eyebrow.

"Tell me what?"

"Kate has woken up." Ronnie watched as Matt smiled.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." Ronnie agreed. "So, you go up and tell Alesha and the others and I'll go to the hospital, see if she remembers anything."

"She just woke up."

"And Drug Squad may release Beth on bail anytime now. Looking at past history that'll be her chance to bugger off. She's jumped bail before."

"If that's the case they'll never bail her now. Will they?"

"This is Davidson's team." Ronnie sighed. "I 'ope to God they've learnt from past mistakes but when it comes to appealing against bail they don't usually put forward a convincing case. Mark my words, we have to charge Beth sharpish or we wont see her for dust."

"Tread carefully." Ronnie rolled his eyes as Matt talked.

"What is this? Am I some old bull that doesn't have a sensitive bone in his body? Do I look like a right idiot?"

"Ron."

"No, don't answer that." Ronnie shook his head. "I'm going up the hospital. I'll talk to Jake first, see how she is before I shove my size 9s in ok? Will that do you?"

"Ron, I didn't mean."

"I know son, I know." He smiled slightly. "Go and talk to Alesha and the others." He walked off, leaving Matt no alternative but to do as he was told.

Cameron sat staring at the cat as he did his best to stay sat up rather than fall back against the blanket Alesha had put behind him. He smiled slightly as Lucky wandered away from him.

"Ca!"

"Cat." Alesha smiled. "Thats' right. Clever boy!" Alesha picked up the eight month old baby before wandering into the kitchen.

"Ca!"Alesha sighed, she was convinced her son's first word would be cat rather than the usual dada.

"Daddy will be home soon." She sighed as she looked at the clock on the kitchen wall. Part of her knew he would be at the station working on the case, so that she and James could arrive at Beth's bail hearing and do their best to convince the Judge that the woman would not only skip bail but be a danger to herself and society at large if she was bailed. Another part of her didn't care. She missed Matt. She just wanted him home.

"Hiya." Ronnie walked into the small hospital room Kate had been moved to once she had been taken off life support.

"Hi." She smiled back at him before glancing worrying to Jake.

"You ok?" Ronnie asked.

"Yeah." Kate nodded. "Sore."

"I dunno 'ow you are not fed up of this one." He nodded to Jake who was dozing in the chair in the corner. "He's barely left you."

"I know." Kate looked exhausted. "Ronnie."

"You rest luv." He smiled at her. "I just came to see how you are. Angie and Alesha will pop down tomorrow. You need anything?"

"Nah." Kate shook her head slightly and immediately regretted it.

"Take it easy." Ronnie smiled at her. "This one will look after you. If he doesn't he's got half the CPS to deal with never mind MIU."

"Yeah." She sighed as her eyes closed against her will. Ronnie smiled slightly, knowing there was no point trying to interview Kate again until the morning.

Alesha's eyes snapped open as she heard the front door click closed. She was suddenly more alert than she had been since settling Cameron for the night.

"Hi." Matt kissed her gently as he spoke.

"Hi." Alesha looked up. "Why are you so pleased with yourself?"

"Kate's woken up. Beth's drug dealer friend confirmed she was at Kate's place when the attack took place and I am home before midnight. What's not to be pleased about?" He kissed her again as Alesha wrapped her arms around him.

"Fair point." Alesha smiled. "Matt?"

"Yeah?" He kissed her again as he felt her hand slip into his. "Lesh?"

"Bed." She smiled as he rested his forehead against hers. "Kate's attacker faces the Judge tomorrow for her bail hearing. James and I will meet first, she isn't getting bail this time. In the meantime there is nothing we can do." She ran her free hand up his shirt, playing with the buttons.

"Not about the case, no." Matt sighed as her fingers danced across his shirt.

"Bed." Alesha repeated as Matt nodded, letting her lead the way.

James stared at the paperwork on his desk, aware that Bea was not happy with him bringing work home. She stood in the doorway of the living room watching him pour over the papers.

"Remember Andy has his school rugby match on Friday." Bea's soft Irish accent brought him back to the room.

"I know. I promise I wont forget. He's playing fly half against the league champions. I will be there. 1pm kick off."

"Ok." Bea smiled slightly, relieved he had remembered the 12 year old's match. "Beth will not get bail."

"She might."

"Who's her defence?"

"Julian."

"Ah."

"What do you mean? Ah."

"Well, you know Julian." Bea sat next to him. "People think I'm tenacious."

"No, people think you are like a Pit Bull on speed."

"Same thing." Bea smiled. "But I have nothing on him. If he wants her to be granted bail then you and Alesha really do have your work cut out."

"Yeah." James nodded. "That's what I'm afraid of."
