Some time later Janine arrived followed by an old man with a walking cane. He wore white whit red clothes and a hat in the same colour scheme. He had a big white moustache and reflective glasses that made it impossible to discern his eye-colour. Yewyn waved at them as they went over to him and sat down at his table. Yewyn ordered drinks for them since he had unlimited gold anyway.

'Yewyn, I'd like you to meet Blaine. The Hotheadded Quiz Master. He's the Gym Leader of the Cinnabar Gym.'

'It's a pleasure to meet you. From what I've heard from Janine you're quite the thing, although I'm not sure why you're wearing armour. How about we have a Pokémon battle. I'd like to see this powerful Pokémon of yours she spoke of.'

'The pleasure is all mine Blaine. But what exactly did she tell you about me?'

'Nothing special. She told me that you're a Pokémon Trainer who beat her Gym and that you're now travelling together on your way to the Pokémon World Tournament.'

'Is that so?' Yewyn inquired with a raised eyebrow.

'I had to tell him something.' She hissed.

'Having secrets ay? Can't blame you for that. But first you'll REALLY need some new clothes. Where we'll be going you'll die from the heat if you're going to be clad in all that metal.'

'I have no idea what you have planned Blaine, but I'll take your word for it.' Yewyn suddenly realised something. 'Say, could you give a map of the area. I desperately need to update mine.'

'I think they'll have a map in one of those tourist shops over there, but why would you update yours instead of using the one you'd buy?'

'For an old man to another, some things should be preserved because they're one of a kind. I'm sure you have such an item too.'

'Old man? You? You look like you're 42 or something. I'm at least double your age! What do you think you are? 40 thousand years old?' Blaine asked mockingly.

'Oooh, good guess. Got it right in one go.'

'How do I know that you're not bullshitting me?'

'I'm not a woman. I don't lie about my age'

At this Blaine erupted into seemingly uncontrollable laughter. Janine looked made a sour face at the Yewyn who had a big grin on his face.

'Now would you excuse me? I have some shopping to do. I'll see you 2 at the Gym.' Yewyn said as he finished his drink and stood up.

'So Blaine, how are you doing.' Janine asked him after Yewyn had left.

'I'm doing fine. Great actually. The Gym has finally been rebuild and the volcano is stable. The Rockets have given up trying to reclaim their research from the old lab. For now at least. When we chased them out last time I heard one of them cursing their fate. Something must have happened internally. But what about you. We only met briefly during the last World Tournament.'

'Dad's still occupied with the elite four. The Gym's going alright too. Apart from the safari zone exploding and meeting Yewyn nothing really happened.'

'Well, peace counts for something too. Don't forget that.'

'I know. Don't worry about me doing something stupid. I'll be fine.'

'How did you meet Yewyn?'

'I already told you, didn't I?'

'Yes, but you lied to me.'

'Crap!'

'And you're not very good at concealing your thoughts either'

'Double crap!'

Blaine started laughing again at Janine's priceless face. Janine remembered why she didn't go to Cinnabar all that often. 'I'm just teasing you Janine. I only had vague idea something might have been up. Turns out I'm really good at bluffing.' Janine remember why she didn't play poker as Blaine laughed at her anger.

'But in all seriousness.' Blaine said with a straight face. 'Who is Yewyn.'

'That's a secret.' Janine said with a devious smile. 'And I won't tell you unless you can catch me.' Janine threw a smoke bomb, jumped onto the roof of the café and started running along the rooftops of the city.

'Unfair!' Blaine shouted at her as her chased her in vain, still coughing from the smoke. Now it was Janine's time to laugh wildly.

After Yewyn had bought himself a map of the region and a calligraphy set (They truly do sell both the most useful things and the most useless junk in tourist shops.) he sat back down at his table to update his own map. Then at least he'd all the it's useful features back again. A realtime map of the world is indeed a valuable thing. Especially when you can zoom in as well. All it needed was the general structure of the landscape and the map would do the rest. It even knew the names of all the locations.

He then went to a clothing boutique as they were called here to get his new outfit. A woman approached him as he entered the shop. 'What can I help you with?' She asked as she looked at his clothes. A green with black and white accents scale mail robe hung loosely around him. 2 hammers of solid grey stone were held up by a purple belt adorned with a black and red symbol for a belt buckle. He held a fur-lined helmet in his hand that was made of a brown metal. Devilish horns protruded from the helm and shadows seemed to swirl inside it.
His shoulderpads were even more impressive. Their basis consisted of scales set in leather. A pieces of spiked bone were attached to them. The inside of the bone was carved out and replaced with a crystal that shone a bright, white light. The crystal protruded slightly from the bone and paths were carved into the bone to make the protrusion look like a some sort of spider. The shoulders discharged an electric current that travled between its 2 parts at regular intervals. He also wore a long, wine red cloak with purple blue accents. Four steel chains dangled down from the top of the cloak. The outer two had pieces of cloth attached to them in the same purple blue as the other accents. The middle two united somewhere 2/3 along the cloak and ended in a sharpened crescent shaped piece of metal.

'I'm looking for clothing that is practical for both travel and combat. Do you have anything like that?'

'Eh, what? Sorry. Of course we do. Please follow me to changing room.' She replied, slightly confused by Yewyn's impressive attire. She told him to wait there while she picked some new clothes. She eventually returned with a stack of clothes.(How long does it take to pick a man his clothes!)
Yewyn entered the changing room and stripped down to his loincloth that had reappeared after his transformation. When he came out of the changing room he looked like a different man altogether. He now wore a black coat that looked like a mix of a business suit and a trench coat. He hadn't closed it for the sake of mobility and not getting smothered in the heat of the tropical island. Underneath that he wore a white blouse and black pants held up by a belt. He wore a grey fedora with a black band around it. He'd also removed the braids from his hair. He did still wear armoured boots since they were already somewhat inconspicuous. And you might never know when steel toed boots might come in handy. He didn't look as scary as before, but his new outfit certainly didn't diminish his presence. It just wasn't as unusual as before.

Yewyn thanked the shopkeeper, paid with solid gold and went to the gym to have his battle.

Yewyn was already waiting at the entrance of the gym when Janine and Blaine arrived. This surprised him since they had supposedly headed straight for the gym. However he could guess what happened when he noted that Janine was running and laughing like a madman and Blaine looked like he was having a heart attack. They entered the gym together. While they were walking towards the battlefield Yewyn asked them what had happened.

'Blaine asked some personal questions about you and I refused to answer.' Janine said with a smirk.

'And then she made me chase the truth! Literally! I'm too old for that and you know it.' Blaine said in a fit of grumpy old man-ness. 'But I'm not the only one who will be having an abnormal heart rate. You look like looker.'

'A looker.'

'Hmm?'

'You forgot the word a there.'

'No I didn't. It's supposed to be said like that.'

'Even the grammar is weird here. Come to think of it, how do they know low-common?'

When they approached the battlefield Blaine stopped and spoke to an apprentice of his. 'The battle will be a one on one to the knockout.' Said the apprentice. The man looked like an insect due to a hunched back and big round glasses. Yewyn figured he'd be the official for the match.

'How should I know that. What I do know is that we're going to have a problem.'

'How so?'

'He expects you to have a Pokémon, not for you to be the Pokémon.'

Blaine tipped his hat as he threw a Pokéball into the air. 'Burn 'em Arcanine!' A large orange and black striped, wolflike hound emerged from the white light that flowed from the Pokéball. Yewyn could feel the power of fire emanating from the beast.

'Fair point. Guess I'll just have to rely on you then.'

'Wait, what?'

'So you like to play with fire, huh? Let's show you the ropes then. Baradur, rise and show them our might!'

Yewyn lifted his hand up in the air. A multi-coloured ball of light formed in the palm of his hand. Tendrils shot forth from the ball, leaving behind marks on the floor as they carved a pattern. The pattern was circular in design with spikes and fleur-de-lis patterns sticking out. Words of power were written around the edges of the circle. Form this pattern grey smoke rose and from this smoke a vaguely humanoid male form shrouded with rags of cloth emerged.
It looked like something out of feverish nightmare. Bull horns protruded from his head. He only had three fingers on each hand. Well, not so much fingers as talons. His skin was blackened and fractured like that of a man who's burning alive, which he actually was. Flaming water flowed through the cracks and dripped from his body. These drops turned to dust as soon as they hit the floor and were swept away by the wind that kept the monstrosity suspended in the air. A crescent-shaped disk of a gold-ish metal adorned with runes floated behind him.

A hood of ragged cloth obscured his face. When he looked up Blaine's Arcanine was greeted with a blank face. This changed who the black skin opened and a face of liquid fire appeared. Then it spoke, but not in the way that most Pokémon do. It was using all names of all Pokémon to form his words.

'Screw you Takoe. Screw. You. You know how nauseous that makes me.' It said in Kalimag.

'I needed to send out someone.' Yewyn replied in Low-Common.

'You could've just plunked down a fire elemental totem.'

'Yes, but that's way harder for me to keep up during a fight that I have no idea of how long it will take. Besides, this looks way cooler.'

Yewyn glanced at the others and burst in to an evil scientist laugh. Partly because he found their dumbfounded looks hilarious. Partly because he could see they we're practically scared out of their minds by Baradur, so he decided to play to that feeling.

'Are we fighting or what.' Yewyn said to break the others out of their stupor.

'You've certainly upped the ante by bringing out… whatever that thing might be. I can't back down now.' Blaine said with a grin as he prepared himself for the inferno that was to come. His Arcanine was staring down his opponent, trying the best he could to intimidate him. 'You're going down punk.' Arcanine threatened. Baradur just smirked.

FIGHT!

Yewyn decided to open the battle. He tried to recall some of the moves he had read up upon back when he hadn't yet smashed Dexter to bits. 'Baradur, Flamethrower!'

Baradur shot a current of fire from his hands at Arcanine. 'Burn, baby, BURN!' Baradur said as he tried to incinerate the fire type.
'Arcanine, use Extreme Speed to dodge and go for the face.' Arcanine burst into motion and rushed past the gout of flames. Baradur tried to shield himself from impact, but was hit before Arcanine had even reached him. He then realized it was an afterimage. He was struck three more times before he could block the attack.

'So you like rushing? Baradur, Aqua Jet!' The flames in Baradur's body turned to water. The drops that fell now burst into flames on contact with the air. Baradur formed a jet of water behind himself and shot at Arcanine.

'Counter with Close Combat.' This was risky move as it left his defences right open. Blaine hoped he was faster than the strange being. He wasn't. Baradur slammed into him and knocked him onto his back.

'Follow up with Storm Dive.'

'What the hell is Storm Dive?' Baradur asked.

'What the hell is Storm Dive' Arcanine asked.

'What the hell is Storm Dive?' Blaine asked.

'You know what it is. We share our thoughts, remember?'

Yewyn just smiled as Baradur changed element to air. Winds flowed through him so strongly that they friction set fire to the oxygen in the air. Lightning that sparked off his body electrolyzed the air into water, making it rain underneath him. Miniature tornados dragged the little rocks that covered the battlefield up into the air. Baradur blitzed Arcanine with an uppercut, his form covered in lightning and bashing the beast skyhigh. He followed him up and made an overhead strike at the highest point. Arcanine crashed into the floor, making a fairly large crater. Baradur began charging power into his fist for the last bit of the move. Two seconds later he dove down at Arcanine who was trying to get up.

'Arcanine, Overheat! Quickly!' Blaine shouted in panic as Baradur came down. His Arcanine glowed red for a brief moment and shot out a beam of superheated fire. Baradur tried to punch through it, but the two attacks cancelled each other out, resulting in an explosion and black some. When the smoke lifted both combatants were still standing. They were battered and bruised, but not yet broken.

'This has gone on for long enough now.' Blaine said. 'Finish this with Overheat!'

'If this is to end in fire, then let us all burn together! Baradur, unleash the Fury of Ragnaros!'

Arcanine was first to attack, glowing red once again, but for considerably longer this time. He was charging up energy to make up for the loss of power the last Overheat had caused, and the some more.

Baradur reverted back to his fire element and covered himself in an aura of fire that was so strong it began to melt the battlefield. He then called the rage of the Firelands down on the arena.

Arcanine shot another beam of pure fire at Baradur, way larger than before. 'Hammer time!' Baradur said as he cracked his fists and neck. Baradur's side of the battlefield was now completely molten as Baradur launched his attack. He discharged his aura which manifested in the form of Sulfuras sending a hammer of fire flying towards Arcanine and picking up lava on the way there. The attacks clashed in the middle of the arena, pushing against each other for dominance.

'Is that your best?' Baradur asked mockingly. 'Is that YOUR best?' Arcanine retorted. Baradur was starting to like the guy. It was then that Baradur felt something stir in the earth. It was the volcano. The spike in elemental fire had triggered it and it was about to blow.

'Takoe, recall me. We need to get out of here. The volcano is about to erupt!' Baradur said through their mental link.

'What!' Yewyn shouted, eyes opened wide.

'What? What is it?' Blaine asked as the two fighters were still clashing.

'We overdid it with our attacks. The volcano is going to erupt.'

'Nonsense. The geological reports showed nothing of an- .

Blaine was cut off by an earthquake and cracks appearing in the walls of the Gym. Behind his glasses his eyes were wide with fear.

'No. Nononononono. Not again! Arcanine, return.' Blaine pulled out a pokéball and returned Arcanine. Yewyn did the same, but with a beam of multi coloured light that shot from his hand. Yewyn looked around for Janine, but he saw that she was already getting the hell out of there. The two men followed suit. They got out just in time as the walls burst open and lava flowed forward.

Yewyn stopped to look back and assess the damage. It could be worse. Just a little. The entire side of the volcano where the gym had been had collapsed and lava was now flowing outwards in the direction of the city.

'Think we can do something about this?' Yewyn asked.

'With some serious backup? Maybe.'

'Then let's do this shit. Time to be improbable.'

'Blaine, get back here and help me contain this!' Yewyn shouted as Blaine was running towards the city while ranting furiously through a communicator of sorts.

'How in the world would you want to contain an eruption?' Blaine asked as he hung up. 'Do have any idea of the statistical likelihood of something like that ever working?'

'I didn't ask you to tell me how improbable it is. I asked you to help me make it probable. Now summon your Pokémon and fight fire with fire damn it before your island burns down!' A fiery rock crashed into some houses on the outskirts of the city to illustrate his point. Blaine hesitated slightly, looking around nervously, but he was convinced of the direness of the situation by yet another tremor. He sent out his full team: Arcanine (still exhausted from the battle but otherwise fine.), Ninetales, Charizard, Magmortar, Flareon, and a Rotom possessing an oven. Not that Yewyn had any idea what they were, but he felt the power of fire radiating from them. Literally from the household appliance that was unintentionally blasting heat waves in Yewyn's face.

'So what's the plan?' Janine asked, feeling like she should help. Not that she really could. None of her Pokémon were any good at combatting a freaking volcano! She had a Tentacruel and a Nidoqueen with her which held a type advantage over fire types, but being a poison type specialist her Pokémon weren't catered to that side of their repetoire. The Tentacruel only shot scalding water, which might come in handy but would probably evaporate too quickly for it to do anything substantial. Nidoqueen knew Earth Power which is a ground type move. But it so happens to be that move calls magma to the surface, which only makes the problem worse. They both knew ice beam too. But again, ice versus a volcano. Bad idea.

Yewyn stroked his beard as he formulated his plan. 'As we've seen just now, the elements that make up our universe can be drawn to certain places. There are different many different types of power. Some individuals are capable of using these powers. They pluck it out of the air and redirect it. That's how Pokémon use their moves. But if they use to much of it then parts of the world that correspond to that type of element is drawn to them. That's what created the eruption. So in theory we could go to a part of the island that's unpopulated and close to the volcano. If we then unleash every fire type move on that location we should be able to redirect the lava there. Janine, do you have any Pokémon that know fire type moves on you?'

'Sorry, no I don't. I'll see what I can do to stall the lava until the fire brigade gets here.'

'Hold on. Have you got any scientific proof that anything of that what you just said is true? Are you sure this will work?' Blaine interjected.

Yewyn sighed. 'Blaine, I have no idea, but let's do it anyway. We've already wasted enough time standing around. Please just trust me and lead the way to some place we can trash.' Blaine grumbled an answer and set out.

They ran as fast as they could to the other side of the island which was, conveniently enough, unpopulated. They found a hill from where they could fire their attacks on the land below and not be in trouble once the lava would come. 'The fire needs to be both constant, focused and as powerful as possible. Can you do that?'

Blaine gave a big smile. 'I have an idea that might work. Overheat is the signature move of my gym. It's a very strong move as you've seen, but the more times you use it the weaker it gets. But that won't happen if it's a continuous attack. We can further amp up the power if we cross the beams. After all: Fire feeds fire. Two blazes together are more dangerous than two apart.'

'Sounds good. Where'd get that quote from?'

'You're not the only one with secrets Yewyn.'

'Fair enough. You draw the spectacle and I'll drop the figurative bombshell.'

'You were thinking of dropping an actual bomb? Do have bombs on you?!' Blaine asked with slight worry.

'More like sticks of dynamite, but it probably won't do much.' Yewyn said as he pulled out a rather massive bomb the Goblins had so lovingly called "The Big One".

'How the hell did you get through TSA?' Blaine said -his glasses dropping slightly from disbelieve- as he motioned for his team to carry out the plan.

Yewyn shrugged. 'There was no security where I made landfall. The coastguard must have missed me.'

'Once this is over I'm going to have to ask you to turn that thing in.'

'Really? Your worried that the guy who's trying to save your island is going to blow it to kingdom come after he's done that?'

'… That's actually a very good point. Never mind. In fact, can I have it. I know a certain group of people I'd like to be at the receiving end of that thing.'

'Who are those unlucky bastards?'

'My former employers. Team Rocket. I spend the best years of my life working for them, recreate the strongest sighted Pokémon ever for them. And as payment they decide to try and kill me! Obviously I survived and quit. But even now they try and sneak onto my island and steal my research! They need a lesson in humility.'

'If you're trying to blow up an entire organization I might as well give you one of my books on engineering.' Yewyn said as he handed Blaine a section of his recipe book.

Blaine leafed through it, eyes widening as he read the amount of megatons the bombs encompassed. 'Did you come up with all this?'

'Nah. A friend of mine, Braxs Sparkgoggle, wrote it. He can be quite the maniac. I am however a professor in archaeology and I've written several papers on alchemy.'

'Alchemy? Does that still exist where you're from? Isn't that all hocus?'

'Nope. It's a thing. You'd be surprised how well certain potions work. I wish I had some on me right now, but I always forget to bring some. If we meet again I'll brew up some Noggenfogger. That stuff is hilarious.'

During all this banter between the two men Blaine's Pokémon had been hard at work to draw the lava to their side. Yewyn felt the power around them near the level that would be needed for what they had in mind.

'Time for the finale.' Yewyn pulled up his sleeves and began channelling power into a gigantic fireball. And lo and behold, 2 minutes later there was a fireball the size of a small building over his head. The Yewyn's muscles were all tensed up, his veins throbbing, his beard singed and his irises burning. 'COME GET SOME!' And then there was fire. Fire as far as the eye could see.
