Claimer: I own nothing…I simply wrote the story the way I was told.
I finally found spare time to get this written. And right now, I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for being so late with this. This story, as well as my other request, I long, long, long overdue and I should hopefully have time to get it close to being done. I am so sorry and I'm determined to stay on top of my requests until they are done. But, in any case, please read, reciew, let me know what you think, and please pardon my tardiness. Thanks!
Chapter 5: Jealousy
I kept my back pressed against the nearest building as I kept watch over the targets in front of me. Boss had hired me to watch over them and report back to him. At first…I thought that this would be an easy job, but then I came to find out that it took much more fineness and sneaking around than I had anticipated. I had to stay out of the way, keep my cover low, not make a sound, and keep tabs on Cooper and his friend. This was certainly going to be difficult, but if I didn't get the information boss had asked for, this could end badly for me. So, I kept my profile low as I crept along the building closest to me, a few feet from the fountain Cooper was supposed to be at, and waited. Cooper was supposed to meet his little girlfriend, whatever her name was, at a quarter until five, and it was only four in the afternoon. I had a good forty-five minutes of waiting, but I knew I had to do it. I seated myself on the ground and rested my head on the wall. All I had to do was sit and wait.
As I sat, I started wondering why boss even had me doing this. Why he was so interested in Cooper and his friend, I didn't know. All I had to do was listen in on their conversation and then report back to him, but I didn't know what kind of important information they could possibly hold and talk about. Maybe they were discussing secret plans against my boss? Maybe they were going to plan a new heist? Well, whatever it was, it must be important and I was part of this very important job and information. I felt important! But the downside to being important was doing all the grunt work for my boss. I still had another half hour of sitting and waiting, but if it would make me look good in my bosses' eyes, then it was worth every boring, thumb twiddling second.
After my half hour of waiting, Cooper finally showed up almost five minutes early. He causally leaned against the fountain and seemed to be waiting just like me. I went from my bottom to my knees, crouching to the ground and kept my side pressed to the side of the building while I did my best to stay in the shadows created by the low hanging sun. I fumbled around my jacket pocket for a pen and the scrap paper I'd stuck there for notes. I prided myself on having a semi-decent memory, but with boss being my customer for information, I wanted every little detail to be exact and as close to the truth as possible. I couldn't mess this job up. It only took another few minutes for the lady to show up, still in her racing gear to top it off! I pressed my pen tip to the paper, ready to scribble off their conversation into my notes.
She came up to Cooper was a smirk on her face, and a roll to her eyes. Cooper himself stood up from his post on the fountain and offered her a large smile as well. The stood, face to face, smiles across their muzzles, and there was a relaxed look in their bodies. They seemed to have known each other for a while, probably sometime in the past, and there was no doubt that they were plotting something together. I quickly scribbled the things id seen on my paper before I looked back up, straining to hear their conversation.
"It's been a long time since I received your card, Mr. Cooper, I was beginning to think that you'd forgotten about me." the female said with faux hurt in her voice. Cooper gave a chuckle, placing his paws on his hips and flashing her an even wider smile
"It's certainly been a while, Nagi, but I could never forget about you. You are quite a special little lady and I certainly couldn't forget your pretty face." the girl, who was apparently named Nagi, rolled her eyes.
"Oh I'm sure you've had plenty of other women since our last conversation, Sly." The raccoon looked down to his feet, kicking at a pebble or two before looking up to Nagi.
"Well, I've had one or two, but none have ever been as special as you are." I quickly scribbled the gist of their conversation down. So far, they didn't seem to be planning anything or really taking any notes that really needed to be taking. But, because this was for boss, I was taking every precaution.
"Sure," she said with a laugh, then a sincere smile, "but I did appreciate getting your flowers today." Sly laughed, leaning against the fountain again.
"Well a winner deserves another prize! After all, that was our can you beat today, just wanted to show you that we had no hard feelings." I wrote again, writing everything down, almost verbatim, as their conversation continued. All they talked about was their past, nothing in the future! If they weren't planning something…then why did boss have me follow them out here?
I'd always know that my boss liked Nagi; he made it a frequent statement that she was to be his. Even though I never really paid any attention to who she was, until now that is, I figured she was someone who was far away. But no, she lived here in the town and was perfectly capable of seeing my boss. I shook my head and returned to their conversation, my pen never seeming to stop moving as I wrote down their conversation. After about an hour of listening in, I was almost out of paper space and was starting to get a paw cramp along with serious pain in my knees. Despite my deep want to get up and leave, I paid special attention to their last part of the conversation.
"So am I going to be able to see you again?" Sly asked, getting up from the fountain, a serious look on his face. Nagi had a smirk on her face as her tongue ran over her teeth in thought.
"I suppose so, Mr. Cooper." Another smile came to Cooper's face as he kicked his feet again.
"Well, with that being said, I suppose I should let you go and I can go plan our next caper." Nagi nodded and the next part actually surprised me. Nagi leaned forward, and wrapped her arms around Sly Cooper in a hug and even kissed his cheek. I copied all of this down, my pen moving furiously. They soon parted ways, content in what had happened. I knew, deep in my guy, that my boss wasn't going to be happy about what I had to say.
