Chapter 61: Rest
"She's dead?" I say in disbelief as I try to process the news.
My mom starts crying and gives me a hug; I pat her back trying to soothe her.
"Shhh it's going to be ok mom", I say, "Why don't you go home and get some rest", I say.
My mom wipes her eyes, "You sure? I can stay if you want", my mom says.
I shake my head as I notice how tired and weary she looks, "I'll be ok mom", she says.
"Ok well call us if you need anything", she says.
"I will", I say.
I give my parents and brother a hug before they leave. I sigh and lay back onto the pillows.
"Are you ok?" Richard asks.
"I guess", I say, "I just can't believe my sister died. You know what's weird? I think she tried to save me", I say.
"What are you talking about?" Richard asks.
"When Xavier pointed the gun at me", I say and notice Richard's face twist in anger as I shudder at the memory, "Komi told him to stop, just forget about me and leave together. She even tried to take the gun from him to prevent him from shooting me", I say.
Richard rubs his chin, "It still doesn't excuse the fact that she helped Xavier and Slade kidnap you", he says.
"I know, but in the end, she saved my life, shouldn't that count for something?" I ask.
After about 3 weeks I am finally released from the hospital. The rest of the month is one huge blur. My parents held a small funeral for Komi with our close family and friends. As they lowered her cassette in the ground I started crying, all the emotions I had held back come to light. I cry for the loss of my sister, for my parents losing a child and the fact that my fact my daughter will never know her aunt.
"Hey, how are you doing?" Richard asks.
"Better", I say it has been about a month since Komi's funeral and I was being to feel like my old self again.
"Do you want to have a picnic in the park?" Richard asks.
"Sure", I say surprised at the gesture.
Richard starts making a picnic basket while I pack Mar'i's baby bag and Richard puts her stroller in the car. I hop into the passenger seat and Richard drives us to the park downtown. We park in a nearby parking lot and unload the car. As I place Mar'i in her stroller the smell of fresh-cut grass fill my nose and I hear the sound of kids playing. Richard finds us a soft grassy spot and spreads the picnic basket out. I take Mar'i out of her stroller and place her in my lap.
"So what's on the menu?" I ask.
"Today we have an assortment of sandwiches, we have turkey, ham, and grilled cheese and for side items we have some fresh fruits", he says.
"Sounds delicious, I'll take ham please", I say.
Richard smiles and hands me a ham sandwich, "Thank you", I say and take a bite, and Mar'i reaches for the sandwich.
"No sweetie, you still have a while before you can eat big people food", I say and reach for a bottle in her baby while Mar'i continues to reach for the bottle.
"She's just as stubborn as her father", I say and Richard laughs.
"Here I'll feed her", Richard says.
I shake my head, "No it's ok, I can do it", I say.
"Ok", Richard says.
I find Mar'i bottle and begin to feed her, "Listen I never got to thank you for everything. You were so good to me when I was in the hospital and after Komi died", I say.
"You don't have to thank me, I'm your husband", Richard says, "For better or worse", he says restating one of the vows we took when we got married.
"I know but I still wanted to thank you", I say.
Richard smiles, "Speaking of vows, I have something to ask you", he says.
"What?" I ask curiously.
Richard reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a small jewelry box.
I laugh, "Are you proposing to me again?" I ask.
"Something like that", he says and clears his throat, "Kori Grayson, Will you do me the honor of renewing our vows and marrying me, again?" he ask as he opens the box reveling a diamond bracelet with an infinite charm.
"Yes", I say and Richard puts the bracelet on my wrist as Mar'i laughs.
"She laughed again! Omg she's smiling", I yell!
Richard smiles, "She smiles just like you", he says.
After the picnic Richard and I head home, I give Mar'i a bath and place her in crib.
I flop on the bed and Richard sits down next to me, "Today was nice, I really needed this", I say.
Richard lies down next to me, "Me too", he says.
"So what do you have planned for our vow ceremony?" I ask.
"I was just thinking we have a small ceremony with just a couple of friends and family", he says.
"I like that idea", I say.
"I was also thinking we could have a mini weekend honeymoon, It's almost been six weeks", Richard says and wiggles his eyebrows.
I giggle, "I like that idea even better", I say, "I miss having you inside me", I say.
Richard eyes widen in surprise, "You dirty girl", he says and I giggle as he leans in to kiss me.
Richard phones rings and he groans, he pulls it out of the pocket and looks at the screen and frowns.
"Who is it?" I ask.
"My lawyer", he says, "Hello?" Richard says. "Yea…uh huh… ok I will let her know", he says and hangs up the phone.
"What?" I ask.
"That was my lawyer, I've been having him update on Xavier trial", he says.
"And?" I ask eagerly.
"He got sentenced to life in prison without parole in maximum security prison out of state", he says.
"What about Slade?" I ask.
"He fled to some islands outside of US territory The FEDS froze his assets so it's only a matter of time before he is rotting in a cell", he says.
I sigh in relief, "So, it's finally over?" I ask.
Richard nods, "They can never hurt us again", he says.
A/N: Soooo what do you think? Sadly this story is coming to an end soon but I do have a new idea for a new story which I will publish after I finish this one. Anyway please,review,follow,favorite or all 3!
