The next morning, Annie and Hugh headed back to Paris. Annie had said goodbye to Dixon and most of her friends but there was one person who was notably absent: Liam. He had decided that since Annie made it clear she was moving on, as far as he was concerned, she had already said goodbye
She had her chance to speak to him after Silver's funeral but she had gotten engaged to another man so as far as he was concerned, she had her chance but she had passed it up. He decided he might keep the engagement ring but give it to another woman whom he believed was more deserving of the ring
Liam heard a voice in his head telling him Annie was the woman he was meant to be with but he loudly told himself, "Yeah right! If we were meant to be together, I would've stopped her going on that plane! Maybe I still should've gone to Australia with Sydney!," but then he remembered she was the one who told him to tell Annie how he felt. "Yeah and look how well that worked out!," Liam reminded himself
Annie spent the next eight months preparing for her wedding to Hugh but she was still thinking about Liam and wishing it was him she was marrying. She sadly reminded herself, "Liam did propose twice but I said no both times." Annie kept thinking about when Liam proposed. She wished she could go back and change her answer. She cried, "I can't go back in time and Liam thinks I hate him so I'm going to have to accept it's over between us"
