Chapter 9: Reunion
Rory heaved. The last robot in the hallway had fallen.
"Amy are you alright? I heard you scream a while ago..." he whispered, out of breath.
She nodded in response by telling him she was okay (which she really was not.)
His body was limp and he was exhausted; he closed his eyes and was just glad it was over.
His eyes shot open in shock as Jenny gave a loud squeal from behind him. He, his wife and daughter all spun around to see why the little girl had made the noise.
"Remember Donna!?" She jumped up and down excitedly.
"Ohhhh yes Donna! And General Cobb?" He beamed, just as excited... though her name stung him deeply.
"Ah yes! General Cobb, oh and you didn't forget Martha did you?" She recalled at the happiest of memories flooding back to her.
"How could I!?"He plastered a fake smile. Really... how could he forget the brilliant Martha Jones and fantastic Donna Noble? Mentally he sighed; those two women were too painful to even think about... so he hugged the small girl in front of him instead. He scooped Jenny in his arms, she was the one thing he had lost that was a part of him, that he loved too much. The emotion that swept over him when she died was so depressing, he could've thrown himself of a bridge over and over until someone would shoot him for insanity while he was regenerating; losing someone you loved so much can make you want to give up on life, but he didn't. Jenny was his, all his, HIS daughter, a part of HIM and he'd lost her once, that was one of the many mistakes he had committed, and he swore to never commit it again.
"Woah there you two, we just killed a bunch of robots, thanks for celebrating but... who are ya talking about?" Amy joked, hiding the bloody hole in her calf behind her knee with her palm; she hissed softly as she tried to fight off the pain for a while. Her leggings were brown in color, if she could pull it off long enough, no one would notice her burning injury.
"Oh Ello guys!" The Doctor set Jenny down and clapped, "Jenny! This is Amy, Rory, and River! Ponds! This is Jenny! Say hello Jenny!" He nudged her.
"Hello!" She waved her hand as happy as ever.
The three shared a strange glance, they knew Jenny! Almost... but they knew her enough that they were PAST the 'introduction' phase... so why was he introducing her again?
The Doctor looked down and Jenny and she up at him, they both burst out in laughter.
"What... did I miss something again?" Rory sighed and placed a hand on his forehead...
"I think we all did..." River chuckled.
"Well you guys know 'Jenny' but you don't know THE Jenny, so you know A Jenny but not the real Jenny, not the right Jenny she was the incomplete Jenny but now THIS Jenny is full of stock so now you know the right Jenny!" He beamed.
"Wait what? Doctor you're not making any sense!" Amy laughed.
"Of course I am! Okay try this, now do you remember that feeling... that insane emotion that swept over you when you found out River was your daughter?" He asked the blond and the Ginger.
They nodded yes, "See!? That's the feeling I'm getting now! It's indescribable!" He threw his hands in the air.
"Over what? Jenny? Now Doctor don't tell me she's your DAUGHTER..." Rory chuckled as did the other two ladies. Then, they saw the Doctors wide grin, the one he wore when he didn't want to say anything at all, just let you stand there in bewilderment and let you figure out that what you're saying is true.
"Nooo..." Amy smirked, "she... she can't be!"
"Ah but she is!" The Doctor winked at Jenny.
"MELODY!" Amy and Rory turned their heads in unison, "HOW!?... WHEN!?"
"MUM, DAD, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING BUT I SWEAR-" She raised her hands in defense.
"No no! It's not like that!" He smiled and picked Jenny up in his arms once again, "Ponds, I would like to introduce you to Jenny, my daughter," his emotions were slightly overwhelming, the universe rarely gave second chances; this was the best one yet.
Now that they had officially heard it from his mouth, they were awestruck, all three of them.
Jenny just giggled at them and the Doctor placed a finger on his lips to tell her this was a moment of seriousness.
"And she has NOTHING to do with River by the way!" He clarified, "see... well, it's complicated... a strange story of a strange planet and, ah it was a long time ago," he sighed, not able to find words to describe one of his typical bizarre adventures.
"Ya dad," Jenny smiled as she played with strands of his stylish brown hair, "last time I saw you, you were so... different!"
"Yes well it's all... regeneration and stuff ya know... it'll do that to you, change you a bit," he winked...speaking of, she was different last time they had met as well, bigger, older, he wanted to ask her how she had survived, what had happened, how she had even gotten here?! So many questions that desperately needed answers, but he was too excited now, questions could wait.
"You have funny hair," she messed with the brown clumps of his hair, "...mmm I think I liked it better before," she narrowed her eyes in an inspecting manor.
"AYYY! My hairs beautiful!"
"Your accent is funny too!" She laughed, "I liked it better when you spoke through your teeth when you were frustrated and the way you said stuff super-fast when you were in a hurry!"
"Oh besides the teeth thing he still speaks inaudibly fast," River threw in with sarcasm. Jenny smiled as she hugged her father lightly around the neck and pressed her head against the side of his.
"I also liked the way you loved me daddy..." she said slowly, "the way you always blocked me and shielded me from the line of fire and stuff, you loved me so much...you... you still do, don't you? Or do you think I'm no good because I'm small, I'm puny... and... Useless... you'd rather have the old me wouldn't you?" She asked nervously.
"Jenny?" He asked softly, "What could ever make you think otherwise!? You are my daughter, a part of ME, you're mine, all mine. And no matter how hard anyone tries, I'll never let anything hurt you, I'll turn tides, create more paradoxes, and fly past the end of the universe if it'll keep you safe and alive. You'll never leave my sight and I'll always protect you, that's a promise I will never ever break... I let you slip once, last time. I let you go, I slipped up bad... but I swear on my life that at any cost I won't let anything harm you... if it means your safety, I am prepared to do anything..." he hugged her close.
All was silent for a moment, had the crazy, spontaneous, witty Doctor really just said that!?
"You weren't as serious last time either though," she said into his hair and smiled a bit, "but I feel safe around you daddy..." she closed her eyes and just let his warmth drown her, "I love you daddy..."
"Not as much as I do, I love you more," he heaved into her shoulder.
"No way! I love you the most!" She made a face as she pushed away from him and wagged her finger, "I love you waaayyyyy more!"
"Okay, I REALLY missed something," Rory heaved, and though he was utterly confused, he couldn't help but smile at the so called 'father and daughter.'
"Alright fine," The Doctor continued holding Jenny in his hand as he began explaining, "during my previous incarnation, I landed on a planet called Messaline where..." the Doctor trailed off and closed his eyes, trying hard to remember what had happened there... a word that sounded like the 'Hath' came to mind but they were of no significance and he could not remember what that word had meant.. He sighed and continued, "I was... cloned you could say. Genetic reproduction using a single cell..."
"And that's how she came to be?" River raised an eyebrow.
The smaller Timelord smiled at her father and nodded, "Yes, but I was older then!"
"Hm, speaking of that Jenny..." The Doctor was now trying harder and harder to recall finer details of when he had met his daughter, but none could explain why she was smaller.
"Do you remember what happened after I left, well after you..." died... No, he couldn't muster the strength to utter such a word.
Jenny cocked her head to the side in confusion when Amy spoke first,
"Ay guys..." she tried to laugh off the pain that was slowly burning in her leg 'fight this, you are not a quitter, only back out when you're completely defeated, you've still got strength, it's just a bit of blood loss right?' she told herself in the awkward position she was in to shield her leg from their eyes before continuing, "I think we should-"
ZIP!
A shot flew by Rory's' side, he spun his head around and with one swift movement he grabbed his gun and shot the robot back; dead.
"Did it hit you?" Rory mouthed to Amy, who was barely an inch away from where the beam had shot by.
She nodded no 'yes I was hit! Well, just a skim across my stomach... I hope...' Amy quickly looked down to her side, a small blood spot was appearing on her COLOR shirt, nothing more than that, if Rory could live 2000 years, fit and strong, she could last a few minutes with a wound... or two...
Rory placed a finger on his lips and the others stopped talking, his sharp ears caught a noise, "more are coming..." he said in a low voice.
The roman turned to his wife, daughter, The Doctor and... Granddaughter? He put the thought aside,
"I'm sorry guys, we'll have to catch up on good memories later but right now, we've got to get out of here. I don't know how many there are but there's got to be at least 50 more, you can hear them stomping, pounding..." he glanced at his wife, what was she doing?
He shook his head, he had to focus on a plan of escape, "We need to find a way to get out, and I'm guessing Amy and Melody have traveled around enough to have it mapped out I hope?" Melody nodded, "So did you guys ever run into the hole we so we can get out?"
"We all had a terrible fall there, but I think we can all certainly remember the way we came in right? If we all piece together the hallways and corridors, we can create a mental map and find a way out." River smirked.
"Marvelous thinking darling..." The Doctor absentmindedly slipped out a compliment to his wife who was now standing to his left, Jenny in his right arm.
She scoffed and rolled her eyes, "you're the one who introduced the plan in the first place," She placed a hand on her hip.
"Oh no of course I introduced it and thought about it," The Doctor narrowed his eyes, "you just made it sound..."
"Sexy?" she laughed.
"Well," he turned his head shyly and smirked, "you always do..."
"DAD!" Jenny smacked him in the head, "Who is this lady!? And why do you like her so much?!" she pouted.
The Doctor and River shared an awkward glance, "Umm..." she laughed.
"Well..." Rivers' cheeks grew bright pink.
"Ah Jenny, maybe I'll explain the whole situation some other time..." The oldest Timelord smiled nervously.
Rory chuckled, "Yes, I was there... terribly complicated... Anyways," he glanced over again at his wife, she was being awfully quiet he cleared his throat, "back to business. So you know the way back?"
"I guess, I mean we can try can't we?" River shrugged, "I believe it's... this way," she led to the right; The Doctor put Jenny down and Rory immediately followed in step behind her, Amy lagged behind.
"Amy," Rory heaved after they turned around a corner, "what's wrong? You're not yourself, you're not talking and you look like you're trying to hide something..." he sighed and glanced up and down then added sincerely, "Amy, I love you, I'm your husband, whatever it is you can tell me!"
"No... I'm fine... really..." Amy said weakly, she couldn't hide a lot of her pain any longer.
"Oh Amy," Rory whined and wrapped his arms around her comfortingly.
"NO STOP!" She pushed away vigorously. "STOP YOU'RE HURTING ME!" she winced. She glared down at her hands, stained red from her wrists to her fingertips; she was as speechless as her husband.
"Amy!?" The Doctor spun around in shock.
"Okay..." she hissed at Rory as she began tilting to one side (the side her leg was shot at) "you know how I told you I was fine?" She pressed her eyes closed tightly, "ya... I was lying..."
"Amy! Why would you do such a thing!? You know I'm a nurse!" He quickly knelt down to her side as she let her arms down and showed him the giant red spot in her calf, and the slowly swelling burn in her stomach, "God knows how much blood loss you've suffered from! Amy why the hell would you..." he sighed heavily in frustration as he ran around her in circles examining almost every inch of her body, checking for any more damage. Too frail to stand any longer, she fell to the ground, Rory grasped her helping her lay down slowly.
"Umm guys..." Jenny added in, "heh sorry to interrupt but..."
"What?" Rory's question should've come across rude but he was barely audible, gasping for air under the pressure of his wife on the floor.
"They're coming. Like you said. I can hear them... they're coming..." she said softly.
Rory rolled his eyes and buried his face in his hands and sighed, "Alright then, this is what I have to do."
He handed Jenny his gun and scooped Amy in his arms bridal style, the calf that was bleeding pressing onto his stomach.
They all began racing down the hallway, Jenny merely following, as The Doctor and River recalled the place in the distance, about 150 feet ahead in the long hallway, where they had fallen; if there was a way in there was a way out.
Suddenly, from intersection that was right before the hole above ground, almost 40 robots appeared; the Timelords and humans skidded their heels to a stop.
Jenny smirked and jumped in front of the adults.
"Dad... I think I'm more comfortable with a gun now, I mean, again..." she smiled devilishly, "and technically I'm not taking a life dad..." she then glanced back at the other three, determination shining brightly in the little girls eyes, "so stand back guys... this is what I was born to do."
She began pulling the trigger wildly.
