BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
Jenny shot one laser pulse after another.
River stood by her side, feeling a little awkward fighting along with the child, but she hardly even had to. Jenny was undoubtedly skilled with a gun, or any weapon for that matter, the way she turned and angled her shots were as if she was born to hold the deadly device (which in fact she was.)
They didn't know how many of the alien robots there still were in the underground area but the number of aliens in front of them had now been reduced to three, Jenny shot them off immediately.
Instantaneously she began speaking,
"Come on now! We don't have much time daddy, we have to go, more are coming as we speak!" She huffed, out of breath, tugging on his tweed sleeve in the process.

"Alright, alright!" He began racing down the hallway with his sonic in hand and the others followed, Rory obviously running at a slower pace than the rest as he kept Amy in his arms.
Her eyes began closing, he cursed under his breath... such and open wound... so much blood loss...

"Amy no... don't leave me yet... stay with me, keep your eyes open..." he begged in a whisper.

"Oh shut up..." she said weakly, no she was there, and so was her sarcasm, "I'm not dying you idiot... I just... wanted..."

"To be a complete idiot and let yourself bleed out like that?" He asked sharply.

"I thought maybe if you could last two thousand years unharmed-"

"Ohhhh no..." Rory scoffed as he continued walking, "why would you even-"

"Because if you can do it I should be able to too! We're married! We're a team! And..." She pouted then desperately gulped air.
Her breathing drew shorter... and shorter... Rory shook her, pleading to stay awake; she did not hear him.
She closed her eyes, and within a few moments she was unconscious in his arms.

"Now how do we get up there?" River asked panting as they stopped running and reached the hole at the end of the hallway. The hallway was narrow and there were walls all around them, like stepping into a room, the hallway was the only opening towards them.

"Good question love!" The Doctor replied cheerfully, panting as well.

The way up was at least 30 feet high, if not longer, and the ceiling was about 9 feet high.

"Hey dad...look..." Jenny zipped over to a door. She opened it, discovering it was a closet and searched for a moment, then asked, "What are these called again? L...l..." she stuttered as she tried to remember.

The Doctor jumped to her side and his eyes widened with excitement, "That my dear is a Ladder."

He brought it out, and though it didn't look too much like a typical human ladder, it could still pass for one. It would only get them to the ceiling though, not nearly high enough to climb the rest of the way.
Rory looked down from Amy to The Doctor and back to Amy again.

"Doctor?" Rory asked.

The (older) Timelord spun on his heels and nodded, "yes?"

"Could you hold Amy for a second? She's had a severe blood loss and she passed out. I need to check something..."

The Doctors' jaw fell open but he did not object, he wordlessly took his beautiful Ginger companion in his arms as Rory paced to the closet where they had found the 'ladder.'
Rory glanced down and his bright red arms, he quickly wiped the blood off on his pants and searched the closet. He scanned through the alien equipment and found a makeshift rope made of what seemed to be a flexible form of metal, though it would be too short. After more searching, he came across a long enough metal rope that could very easily be bent and was loose and useable.
The Roman quickly threw the rope over his shoulder in a loop and began climbing the 'ladder.'

"What are ya doing?" Jenny asked as she watched him climb.

"I'm going to climb up to the top, using the rugged surface of the inside of the hole, then I'll tie the rope to me and pull you guys up one by one," he said as he reached the top of the ladder.

"Brilliant Rory!" The Doctor acknowledged, though his smile faded as he stared down at Amy with deep curiosity and concern.

But Rory had his serious face on. He had a singular focus and a singular goal: to get Amy to the surface and to a hospital as soon as possible. Sadly, only he knew the true consequences of a severe blood loss, and only he knew the number of casualties...

"Umm Rory...?" The Doctor asked a bit shakily as he began seeing dark red puddles appear on his hand, "Wha...what exactly is wrong with Amy?"

"She...she was shot while *pant* we were fighting those aliens. And like an idiot *pant* she didn't want to tell ME the nurse *pant* in order to look brave!" He said as he climbed upwards through the 10 feet diameter hole.

"Oh my will she be alright?" River asked.

Rory didn't respond 'I hope so...' he thought.

There was silence for a few moments, except a faint pounding, as they all were trying to take in Amy's current state, when Jenny asked,

"Dad? Are you sure you're still the same person?"

The Doctor smiled and nodded with Amy still flimsy in his arms, "Yes I am."

She asked innocently and wide-eyed, "Then what happened to Donna and Martha? Why do you have these new people with you?"

The Doctor froze and gulped. He swallowed hard. He blinked at her. How was he supposed to answer that question? He was afraid she would ask something like that...

"Who is she talking about?" River asked as she came to The Doctors side.

Sweat beaded his forehead in anxiety and nervousness, he swallowed hard again, and his mouth now unbearably dry, "umm well..."

"Well what? Did something happen to them? Are they okay?" She asked innocently.

He paused for a long time... not at all knowing how to explain this to her. The Doctor exhaled slowly and was about to speak when-

"I'm up!" Rory heaved and waved to them below from the floor of store they had been at a few hours ago.

"Excellent! Great climbing stuff Rory!" The Doctor attempted to seem more enthusiastic about him reaching the top to avoid the awkward pain of the previous subject.

There was a brief silence once more and now, the pounding was growing a bit... louder... closer...

"No..." Jenny whispered, petrified.

"What?" The curly haired blonde asked.

"I can hear it... something's... something's coming!" Jenny exclaimed. Quickly she snapped a finger on her lips as a signal to remain silent.
She fell to the floor and laid her head on the ground, specifically her ear, listening to the footsteps. She closed her eyes and listened... listened hard...

River scoffed, "Like father like daughter..." she rolled her eyes and smiled at him, "I can see the resemblance between you two now... she is a rather strange, like you!" River joked with her husband.

"Ayy shut it! I won't tolerate any rubbish against my girl!" The Doctor frowned; he hadn't realized how possessive he had become.

"You know I still have that journal we found with me..." she glanced at him seriously, "after we get this whole alien thing sorted out and Amy to the hospital, we really need to have a talk with Jenny... about how she got down here... and why she has so many bruises on her arms and legs..."

The Doctor shifted uncomfortably, these were questions he really wanted answers to, he had tried to ignore the bruised on her and had forgotten about them until River mentioned then again. He nodded in agreement but felt Amy's position into his body beginning to hurt him, though the pounding was starting to get awfully loud.
He paced to the closet and laid his Ginger companion on the ground inside, his arms were numb and, by the way he had been holding her, the white part of his shirt on his right arm was now completely painted red; he used his Tweed to cover it up and wiped the excess blood in his pants.

"It's them! They're coming! The aliens!" She exclaimed with her hands flying around, then said the next part casually, "But it's okay, they're the last batch there is down here, after this, no more aliens!" Jenny clapped happily.

"See what I'm saying? She's already swinging her arms around when she talks, like you!" River laughed.

"I swear if you say another word like-"

"What!?" River smirked, "You should be proud! She literally is your own flesh and blood! If she's like you, you're a father, HER father! Embrace it!" She cheered.

"Ha ha thank you very much!" He added sarcastically.

"Hey guys! I'm sending the rope down, now one of you needs to tie the rope to themselves and I'll pull them up, and we have to do this fast!" Rory said from the top.

"Jenny no, you go first." The Doctor pushed Jenny to the ladder that led to opening above.

"No no no! The aliens are coming now!"

"Which is exactly why I'm sending you first! Now go!" He began wrapping the rope around her waist.

"NO!" She flung it off and ran to her gun, "I want to fight!" She pouted.

The Doctor sighed; his daughter was stubborn, very stubborn. But he couldn't hold a gun and pull the trigger, but Jenny sure could... The Doctor thought about his decision for a moment.

"Ay Rory?" The Doctor shouted up.

"Ya?"

"You mind if I send Amy up there now? Before she gets any further damage from the aliens?"

"Definitely, yes, send her to me now." Rory was ready to have her in his safety.

The Doctor tied her loose body up with the rope and brought her up the ladder in his arms, then shouted so Rory could pull her up, he was strong and easily brought her to the surface; she was still unconscious.

"Don't worry Amy," he stroked her hair, "I'm going to make sure you get treated, I promise..."

The Doctor scratched the back of his head with his SonicScrewdriver and walked in circles as the two females stood ready with guns at the slim hallway, waiting for the pounding of their metal boots to approach.

"River! These are the last aliens of their kind. Shouldn't there be a way we can work this out with them? Peacefully?" He asked nervously, still pacing.

"Sweetie you need to understand..." she said, not moving from her position that faced the corner the aliens would come around any second, "what is a dog without its leash? What's an army without its general? Nothing. Just wild. No sense of direction or higher authority. Aliens like this cannot be controlled without their master, and now their master is dead, and they won't listen to us!"

The Doctor sighed, River had a point. Why did she have to be so right all the time!? "But can't we..."

"Sorry dad, but I've been running scenarios through my head and there isn't a single one that would end up with all the humans safe..." Jenny shrugged.

The Doctor buried his face in his hands, why did they always have to die in the end?

"Hey what's your name again?"

"Song. Professor River Song..."

"Well professor, I've got one word to say before we fight these guys off..." Jenny smirked as she anticipated the aliens turn, thinking of the right word to describe her feelings and add energy into their spirits. She beamed as they finally did come around, and though her word was unusual for many, she shouted it out proud: "GERONIMO!" She laughed and began pulling the trigger.

Now the Doctor smiled, River was right, she was so much like him, and he was proud.

They shot rapidly left and right, though more and more kept coming from around the corner.

"Ouch!" River cursed.

"What's wrong?" The Doctor shouted over the laser pulses and banging from a few feet behind her.

"The robots... they shot at my hand! It's bleeding!" She hissed and her firing speed decreased, "but... I think its okay... I can fight through it..."

"How are you supposed to pull the trigger when you can't use the fingers to do it!?" Jenny exclaimed, she stole a glance at River and said, "You go off to the side! See off Dad can patch you up real quick! I can hold em off! Promise!"

Without question, River ran left of the mouth of the hallway and leaned against a wall, hissing and closing her eyes at the excruciating pain.

"Shh shhh," The Doctor patted her shoulder and hushed her, "you're fine..." he looked down at her hand. Her tallest 3 fingers were red from knuckles to right under the nail, how they had precisely aimed at her right hand was unknown, but her wound was deep, he thought maybe he could use a little regeneration magic on her later...

"Hey Doctor?" Rory interrupted, "You can send one of the girls up here! Whichever one isn't fighting or something... I can't see so I can't tell, and if I was down there I would be helping but..." Rory trailed off, knowing he was needed both up here and down there but could only be in one place.

"River... you've got to go up now..." he told her, inches from her face as the loud sound of shots bombard their ears. Impulsively, to avoid discussion, The Doctor leaned in and kissed her for what seemed like centuries before she pushed him back and said,

"No!" She nodded no, "I can't! Jenny needs me! I can just... umm... use my other hand!" River tried to act casual, though the pain from her bloody fingers was obviously shining through her smile.

"No. You're going. Now." The Doctor untucked his shirt and ripped off some white fabric from the bottom. He spun it around the parts of her fingers the laser pulse had skimmed, causing only minor but painful damage, then picked up her hand and kissed it lightly.

"But Jenny can't... Jenny can't fight alone!" River said over her shoulder as The Doctor shoved her closer to the rope.

"I'll manage..." he said simply as he began tying her up.

"You always do..." she rolled her eyes and said romantically.
He finished tying her and stood up straight, "please finish them so we can hurry up and get Amy to the hospital," River sighed.
The Doctor nodded absently, River pulled him in and gave him another quick kiss before saying, "Rory! Pull me up!" And he began pulling the rope.

Now the Doctor looked from right to left, wondering what to do, could he really muster the strength to pick up a gun?

"Daddy...!" Jenny's pulses grew faster and faster, "I could really use some help here!" She shouted, urgency prominent in her tone.

The Doctor looked from Jenny, to River's gun that lay on the floor, then to Jenny then the gun again. The Timelord inhaled and exhaled slowly.
He knew that his daughter Jenny was skilled, very skilled. But even she couldn't, WOULDN'T be able to hold off this many aliens single-handedly.
He blinked hard, knowing what he was about to go went against everything he had ever said and lived by.

"Geronimo..." he muttered to himself angrily, not at all proud of his decision.

"Rory, how is she doing?"

"Eh well, I dunno..." Rory heaved and pressed her red hair back affectionately, "I know I shouldn't be saying this but... blood loss can lead to serious problems... and with a severe amount like hers, where the laser marks have gone underneath the second layer of her skin," he curled up her leggings and pointed to the area on her leg, "we've got to see a doctor fast, and I mean a medical one. As soon as we're done here, I've got to take her to the hospital."

River nodded as she sat down next to Rory, "but can't you treat her? Here maybe?"

"Not without a proper medical kit, and even that wouldn't be enough for me to progress further into the internal damage. And if I did it here," he looked behind him at the grey, abandoned store, "this place is really old and crawling with bacteria, I'd just end up infecting her even more than she might be..." the lighting was dim in the huge store, the windows cracked and broken, letting faint moonlight in through them as the sun had set only minutes ago.

River nodded her head again, "I understand. You know the human body better than anyone here..."

Rory cursed under his breath, yes he knew the body, he'd just wished he had known how much blood Amy had lost so he could generalize how much time she had left before...

"WOOAAHHHH DAD!" Jenny jumped up and down, "THAT. WAS. AMAZING!"

The Doctor smiled awkwardly, "um ya..." he itched the back of his head with his empty hand.

"WHERE did you learn how to aim like that!?"

The Doctor simply nodded no and looked at the ground, he was beginning to feel uncomfortable by her questions and they were making him rather ill tempered.

"But DAD! You are amazing at shooting them down! I wanna learn how you did it! I wanna be as good as you!"

"Jenny..." he sneered and spoke through his teeth, "learning is one thing but actually applying the knowledge is another. This was something I had never intended to do..." he said sternly.

"But Dad! You shot down more than I did!" She pleaded with wide eyes and a large smile, "can't you-"

"Jenny STOP! I learned it all a long time ago but that doesn't MATTER." he raised his voice and looked at her with flames in his eyes, "what I did, today, right now, will be the last time you, or anyone will ever see me do so! Holding a gun, let alone firing it, is one thing; but it is the one thing I told myself to never do. I am not happy with what I did, nor am I EVER going to do it again. So stop acting like taking the lives of others is something to be so excited about!" He shouted.

She looked up at him with her big eyes. They began to water as her smile faded into a wrinkled frown. She dropped her gun and spun around, clasping her eyes with her hands and bawling with her back to her father. Had she said or done something wrong?

"Ay! Is everything alright down there? I don't hear anything, did Jenny do it?" River asked from above, "Did she get em all?"

The Doctor dropped his gun as well, ignoring Rivers comment. All that could be heard now was the soft whimper of her crying, no robots anymore; they were all officially gone.
The Doctor closed his eyes let out a long sigh; maybe his tone had been a bit harsher than intended...
He spun the blonde girl around, got on his knees, and hugged her close, letting her cry into his shoulder as he stroked her hair. All he kept saying was,

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... "
