A/N: Just showing a little love for the movie, Happy Anniversary. :)
It was the first day of winter, and as usual in Burgess, snow was coming down; covering everything in sight.
"SNOW DAY," a figure yelled; flying in the sky.
To no surprise, as the figure was flying, it revealed itself to be no one other than Jack Frost himself. He had a big smile on his face, as he continued to fly through his home; spreading the snow without a hint hesitation. After all, he loves doing this, so why wouldn't he be so enthusiastic about the snow.
As Jack kept doing his daily routine, he noticed from the corner of his eye, that kids started to come out of their houses; no doubt to play in the snow. Seeing the children outside, made Jack give a slight smirk. He thought this was the perfect time to stir up some fun.
So without a moment to spare, he flew down below, landing safely; getting a sight of a clear target. He saw that there were a few kids, but they weren't doing anything; just looking at the snowflakes fall.
Jack chuckled a little, then scooped up a pail of snow from the ground; forming it into a snowball.
"I know the snowflakes can be beautiful, but come on, do something fun at least," Jack said; looking at the children.
He then closed his eyes, and moved the snowball he created, closer to his face; with just a touch of ice breath, he blew on it, the snowball was now giving off a faintly glow of blue.
"Perfect," Jack said with a smirk; eyeing at one of the children.
In that second, his target was in sight, making him throw the snowball. The snowball eventually hit a young girl. At first, the girl was a bit baffled, she didn't know where the snowball could have come from, but within time, her confusion dissolved into laughter and playfulness. It could be seen to Jack that his aim was successful, since the girl's eyes were sparkling with blue for a brief second.
The girl scooped up some snow, making it into a ball; and eventually threw the ball at one of her friends.
As the girl was laughing, another one of the kids threw a snowball at her; within time, all the children were running around having a snowball fight. Due to slight confusion on who was throwing snowballs, Jack couldn't help himself, but join in on the fun. These kinds of moments…were probably the only time where Jack felt more alive; playing with the children, seeing them smiling and laughing, and most of all….having fun.
After all this time, Jack still hasn't managed to gain believers. He was still trying his best to be seen by others. As all this was coming to mind, Jack then remembered his sister. She was able to see him, and knowing that alone, made Jack feel better; he at least had someone out there that believes in him.
"I should go visit her; after all, I promised her that I would once when I'd come back," Jack said in his mind.
With the idea set, he let the remaining children have their fun as he walked away.
"Oh, and…by the way….you're welcome," Jack turned; telling them.
Jack had a habit of saying this, even though he knew well enough that the children wouldn't hear him. But eventually, Jack turned away and let the wind pick him up from the ground, and like a rocket, he started to fly to his sister's house.
Emma was in the kitchen, cleaning the remaining dishes; but as she was doing this, she couldn't help herself, but to get distracted. She gazed out from the window in front of her, to see snow falling; to her, this can only mean one thing; that her brother was out there, doing who knows what.
As she was sinking deeper into her thoughts, a voice called out to her.
"Mom!" Sarah called.
Emma then shook the thoughts away from her head, and turned to the call. She saw that her daughter Sarah was running into the kitchen, with a big bright smile on her face.
"Mom," she called out again.
"Wha- What is it honey?" Emma asked with a smile.
"It's snowing!" she said cheerfully.
Hearing her child's comment, made Emma give a cheerful laugh, "Why, yes, it is snowing," she said looking out the window.
"Can Peter and I go outside and play in the snow?" Sarah asked happily.
"Ummm…."
It took a minute for Emma to decide, but after seeing Sarah's cheerful, hopeful face; waiting for the answer to be yes, Emma quickly gave in.
"Okay, you two can go play outside, but just…don't wander to far, okay?"
"Okay mom, thank you," Sarah said.
Sarah was so excited, that she started to run to go get her brother, but then hearing her mother again, made her stop.
"Oh, and another thing, make sure to bundle up," Emma then turned with a smile, "Don't want Jack Frost nipping at your nose."
"Jack Frost? Who's that?" Sarah asked; walking back to her mother.
And in an instant, Emma could see the wonder and curiosity reflecting in her daughter's brown eyes.
"Well…might as well try…" Emma said in her mind; thinking it over.
"Why, he's the person who makes it snow of course," Emma said out loud.
"Really?" Sarah asked; her eyes widening with happiness.
"I always wondered who made the snow, I thought it was Santa, but…Peter said he didn't…so…." Sarah said shrugging her shoulders.
"Well its okay Sarah," Emma said, "It's easy to think that since Santa and Jack are the two people who deal with Christmas. After all, Jack sets the mood; making it snow, while Santa goes and delivers the toys for the children."
"Oh, I guess that makes sense," Sarah said, "So, when I go outside….will I see him?" she asked; looking at the window.
Emma then kneeled down and patted Sarah on the head, "That's for you to decide Sarah. After all, believing is seeing."
"Mmmm….okay…"
"Good, now, go out and have some fun with your brother, okay?"
"Okay, bye mom."
Sarah then ran out of the kitchen, and within a few minutes, Emma saw her children bundling up and heading outside to play in the snow.
"Hopefully they'll stay away from the forest this time," Emma said in her mind.
It was awfully chilling outside, but the children didn't seem to mind, since they were having so much fun in the snow. Peter and Sarah were trying their best to make a snowman. And…as Sarah was gathering up some snow to build the body, she started making conversation with her older brother.
"Peter, have you heard of a person named Jack Frost?" she asked.
As Peter heard the question, he became extremely baffled; he was probably thinking, "Where did that come from?"
"Why no Sarah, I never heard of that name until now," Peter said; still continuing to make the snowman.
"Oh, well, mom said that he is the person who makes this snow, and he even nips at our noses too," Sarah said.
"Really?" Peter said raising an eyebrow.
It was clear in his face and in his tone…that he didn't believe what his little sister was saying; though Sarah knew her brother well enough to spot his disbelief.
"It's true, mom said so," Sarah pouted.
Peter then gave a sigh, "Look Sarah, I think mom was just making him up, I'm pretty sure if we ask other kids on the block here, they wouldn't know this…Jack Frost person."
"But…." Sarah said; merely thinking it over.
As she lowered her head and tried to think of an answer, something quickly sparked in her head. Sarah then quickly picked up her head and faced her brother.
"But…what about that Christmas Eve night?" Sarah asked.
"What about that night?" Peter asked.
"Well, it may seem weird, but, I had a feeling we were being followed that night, and, I even remembered a snowflake magically appeared, and landed on my nose," Sarah said; playing with her hands.
"And because of that…you think it could have been Jack Frost?" Peter asked.
"W-well, after what mom said, it…it might have been," Sarah said; still thinking it over.
Though, as Peter was looking at Sarah, he could see the confusion and doubt in her eyes. Whether to believe what she heard was true; who should she listen to, her mom, or her brother?
"Well, I don't want to hurt your feelings Sarah, so…I'll just leave this little conversation where it is. But to give my honest opinion, Jack Frost is probably a made up character, though, I could be wrong…so who knows…maybe your right and we just can't see him for some unknown reason," Peter said; putting the head on top of the snowman.
"Mmmm…"
"After all, believing is seeing."
Emma's words echoed in Sarah's head.
"I guess…" she said out loud to her brother.
With that said, Sarah continued to help Peter make the snowman by putting on the eyes.
As the wind was blowing, Jack Frost came down, reaching his destination. He landed on the roof of his sister's house, and without much thought, looked around. He saw that a few children were playing, but only a couple caught his attention. The couple…was no one other than, "supposedly," his niece and nephew; Sarah and Peter. As Jack was seeing the two make a snowman together, a smile appeared on Jack's face.
His grip on the staff suddenly became tighter; he wished…oh how he deeply wished that they could see him. He didn't just want to visit his sister, but, he also wanted to visit and play with the children as well; though, what good will that do if they don't believe in him. So, the only thing Jack could do…was just watch.
After a minute of watching, he then jumped off the roof and was now standing on the porch of the house. Jack was going to take this opportunity to try and get the kids to believe in him; but, then he realized what he really came here for; to meet his sister again. As Jack was thinking about this, he heard the front door open, to no surprise as he turned, it was Emma. She was a bit shocked in seeing Jack, but then she quickly tried to hide it, since she didn't want to attract unwanted attention.
"Jack! You scared me," Emma whispered to him.
Jack couldn't help, but chuckle.
"Some things never change I guess," he said to her; giving a slight smirk.
Emma then made a face, and playfully hit her brother, "Yeah, I can see that."
Emma then looked around, and then grabbed Jack's hand, "Let's talk inside, I don't want people seeing me like this."
"Oh right, because you're the only one who can see me, and if others see you, they'll basically see you talking to thin air," Jack said playing; though he followed her into the house.
"Yeah, and the last thing I want, is for the people and my kids to think I'm going crazy," Emma responded back shutting the door.
"Going crazy huh, I feel that way sometimes when I can't even talk to people," Jack said; examining the living room.
"Mmm…I can imagine," Emma responded back.
"But anyway, it really is good to see you again Jack, for a second, I didn't think you were going to keep your promise," she continued.
"Oh come on, you know me, I try hard not to break my promises," Jack said smiling.
"I know," Emma said smiling as well.
"So…then how have you been?" she continued.
"Umm good, nothing much has changed really," Jack said; turning his attention to the window.
"Oh."
"And you?"
"Mmm…same as you I guess…" Emma said; walking to Jack.
The two of them kept their gaze at the children who were playing outside.
"And…I told Sarah about you just now," Emma continued; breaking the sudden silence.
"Oh really?" Jack asked looking at her.
"Yeah, she seemed pretty excited, but…I'm not sure if she believes in you just yet since it was recent."
"No surprise there, if she did believe, she would have seen me on the roof or standing on the porch," Jack said turning back to the window.
"Well, hopefully they will soon, I haven't told Peter about you yet but…I really want to help you Jack, like how you helped me. The least I can do is to try and get some people to believe in you," Emma said; resting her hand on Jack's shoulder.
"Thanks," Jack said with a smile, "Though I don't think it's going to be easy."
"Well…we'll see…"
As Emma and Jack continued to look at the window, it could be seen from a distance…that Peter and Sarah were leaving. This automatically brought a worried look on Emma's face.
"Oh those kids, they always do this. I hope they don't go too far," Emma said; her tone hinting a bit of anger.
"Oh come on Emma, they're kids, they need to have some kind of adventure," Jack responded.
"Yeah, but not when they're going to disobey me again," Emma then gave a small sigh, "Jack, if it isn't too much trouble, could you go and keep an eye on them…you know, to make sure they're find."
"Sure, why not. Don't worry, I'll take care of them," Jack said.
"Thank you."
And with that said Jack went off and followed the children; making sure that they were safe and weren't getting into trouble.
"But Peter, mom said to not wander off far," Sarah said following her brother.
"Oh come on Sarah, it will just be quick. I want to get some branches for the snowman," Peter said; leading the way.
"But, don't you remember what mom said, she doesn't want us to go back into the forest."
"Relax Sarah. We're only going to be there for a bit, we're not going to stay there. Just stay close to me and you'll be fine," Peter said smiling.
"Well…okay…if you say so," Sarah said; though she still wasn't convinced.
She just knew that the two were going to get in trouble once they came back home.
After a while of walking, Peter and Sarah found their way into the forest. Even though they thought they were alone, it wasn't completely true since Jack was right behind them, observing from a distance. Jack made sure the children were safe and weren't doing anything wrong.
"Hmmm…I wonder what they're doing," Jack wondered to himself.
He was just standing on one of the tree's branches looking down.
"Okay, Sarah, since I can tell you're scared, just wait for me here, I promise this won't take long," Peter said.
"But…"
"Just stay here, I'll be back…"
Then without Sarah able to speak another word, Peter left, leaving her alone.
"No…I don't like to be left alone," Sarah whispered to herself.
"Well don't worry, everything is going to be okay," she continued; trying to make herself feel better.
After a second of waiting for her brother to return, Sarah noticed a cute little white bunny passing by. What the creature was doing in the forest was highly unknown, but its cuteness certainly brought attention towards Sarah.
So knowing a child, Sarah ended up running off, trying to catch up to the little creature.
"Oh no," Jack whispered to himself.
So without another word, he flew, following Sarah. As soon as he met up with her, he could tell right away that she was scared and confused. Sarah ended up getting herself lost.
"Oh no, what do I do?" Sarah said to herself; looking at the trees that were surrounding her.
Since Sarah was a young child, it looked like if she was going to cry; with one look, Jack was able to spot this, and felt the need to do something. So, with one wave of his hand, he created a snowflake. Once when he did, the wind carried it off and the snowflake eventually made its way towards Sarah; landing on her nose.
As soon as this happened, Sarah became baffled.
"Huh, this...this feeling...it... seems familiar..." she said out loud.
Sarah then looked up into the sky seeing the remaining snowflakes fall. At this point, everything almost felt like déjà vu.
"Could...could it be...Jack Frost? Or...maybe."
Sarah then turned and noticed a strange figure in front of her. Her eyes widen in shock, since it looked like it could have been a person. But since the figure came and vanished quickly in Sarah's vision, she was baffled. She didn't really know what she saw. Was it a ghost...a person?
"Weird...I thought I saw someone just now," Sarah said.
"Hmm...it seems like she was able to see me for a brief second, but...not completely. She's so unsure about me, that she doesn't truly believe in me yet," Jack said to himself; basically standing right in front of Sarah.
"It will take time before she really does."
Unknowingly to Sarah, Jack kneeled down to her level and put his hand a few inches close to her head. It looked like if he wanted to pat her on the head, but knowing to well in what would happen if he tried to touch her, he kept his distance.
"You look just like your mother when she was small," Jack said smiling.
"You may not be able to hear me, but...please don't cry, your brother will come for you if you stay in one spot," Jack continued.
And within time, a voice was calling out to Sarah. Sarah turned and knew that it was her brother. As Peter came to get her, Sarah received a bit of scolding about staying put, and after that was over, they headed back home.
But as they were heading home, Sarah turned back, thinking about what she saw.
"Weird...the person I saw...almost looked like that boy in the picture mom showed us...
I wonder...was it real, or was I just imagining it?" Sarah said in her mind.
