Flash Back

"Jack!

Jack!" a woman called out.

But as the woman called to the boy, no response came to her.

"Where on Earth can that boy be?" she uttered to herself.

Still on the search for the boy, the woman kept walking deeper into the woods, hoping to find him. Within every time step she took, the woman's patience started to thin; at this rate, she was beginning to think this was ridiculous. For goodness sakes' the boy was eighteen, to think he would be a little more mature and responsible by now, but no, the woman, no doubt his mother, had to be on constant alert, making sure he's okay and not getting into trouble.

After taking another step, the mother stopped and took a breath; her eyes then lowered, focusing on the ground before her. Seeing that there was snow everywhere, the mother figured her son was having so much fun that he forgot about the time. With giving another sigh, she then attempted to call to her son again.

"Jack!"

After probably knowing that she wasn't going to get a response, an unexpected voice startled her.

"Yes, mom," he said.

As the mother focused her gaze, she saw that the unexpected voice came from her son. She saw that he was staring happily at her, being upside down, hanging from a tree branch similar to a bat.

"Jack, don't pop out like that, you nearly gave me a heart attack," the mother said sternly.

But as usual, Jack just giggled, "Sorry mom.

I was just having a little fun."

"Well Jack you can't have fun all the time," the mother responded back.

"I know, I know," Jack continued.

"But I just can't help it sometimes," he muttered to himself.

"Now Jack, can you please get down from there, you had your fun and now it's time to go home. Dinner is waiting," the mother said; slowly walking away.

"Okay, I'm right behind you."

With that said, Jack got up and safely jumped down from the tree branch. Without a moment to spare, Jack then continued to walk through the soft snow, following his mother home. Luckily for them, the walk wasn't long since their home was just nearby.

Once when they arrived, everything was nice and quiet again. Emma was no longer worried about her brother's whereabouts, as well as his father. Because of this, Jack thought he would be off the hook, but, it turned out to be the opposite. His parents were no doubt happy that he was safe and at home, but since they were strict on the matter of when he should be home, they ended up grounding him….again.

At first glance, the punishment may seem harsh and a bit too much, but in Jack's case, since he has been doing it for quite a while, not to mention even pulling pranks on people when he would be out, the punishment was perfectly fitting.

After eating dinner, and being out for the day, Jack didn't waste time with his punishment, after being grounded several times before; Jack was already accustomed to it so he just went straight to his room. Dealing with this would be bothersome, but to Jack, it didn't really matter since the grounding would only last a day or two, since his parents end up forgiving him in the end.

As day finally turned to night, snowflakes started to fall. While seeing them from the bedroom window, Jack gazed with a smile; admiring the snow's beauty. He didn't quite know why, but whenever he sees snow, or, if he even plays in it, a warm comfortable feeling would dwell inside him. And, oddly enough, since his sister Emma knows how much he likes snow, she would sometimes call him the prince of winter. Having this thought play in his mind, Jack then let out a chuckle.

"As interesting as that sounds, even with my fascination with snow, I think I would never fit that title," Jack said to himself.

After taking another look at the window, a sudden knock on his door broke Jack's concentration. Once when he turned to the source, he saw that Emma was standing by the door-way, looking at him. Without even thinking, Jack gave his sister a welcoming smile.

"Hey kiddo," he said," What is it?"

Though Emma didn't say a word, instead, she walked in, closed the door behind her, ran and jumped on Jack's bed. Once when she was comfortable sitting, she focused her eyes on Jack.

"Mom said it was okay for you to tell me a bed-time story," Emma said.

"Oh, she did?" Jack responded back.

"Yeah, got any?" Emma asked; waiting.

Within a second, Jack let out a slight chuckle, "I'm not gonna lie Emma, but I'm kind of fresh out of stories tonight."

As the words came out of Jack's mouth, Emma thought it was quite strange. As far as she knew, Jack was the story-teller in the village. He was always the center of attention when it came to entertaining the people with new tales; especially when it came to the children. So having all this in mind, Emma wondered, how can Jack not have a story?

"Let me guess, it's because you been busy pulling tricks instead, am I right?" Emma asked raising an eyebrow.

"No, of course not, why would you think that?" Jack asked innocently; even though he was clearly guilty.

"Uh, because you're grounded remember?" Emma said.

"Oh right, you have a point there," Jack said; still smiling.

After letting out a giggle, Emma then turned her head, and eyed at the fallen snow. Looking as if she was mesmerized by its beauty, Emma slowly turned back to Jack, lowering her head. Changing the subject rather quickly, Emma asked a question that Jack thought was quite strange.

"Jack?

If you can't give a story tonight, can I ask you something instead?" Emma asked; picking up her head.

"Sure what is it?" he asked.

Then Emma turned back to the window, "Is there someone out there…that makes all this snow?"

"Huh, I never thought about that before," Jack said in his mind.

Being fascinated with his little sister's question, Jack gave a slight smile.

"You know Emma, that's a very good question, and…I may have a story after all to answer it," he said brightly.

"Really?

Tell me," Emma said excitedly; waiting for the story.

"Ok, well…it kind of goes like this," Jack said; rubbing the side of his neck.

"As far to my knowledge Emma, there are many magical beings out there. Some we all know, for example Santa Claus and the Tooth-fairy, but then there are others that are yet to be revealed.

No one has ever seen these unknown beings, but somewhere along the line, their presence is revealed one way or another; without them having to show their faces," Jack said.

Emma eye's then lit up, "Do you know who they are Jack?"

"Well, no, but I do know that these mysterious people are the ones that create the four different seasons we have. A few have powers that relate to the fall, others to spring, summer, and to your question, winter."

"Wow," Emma said.

"Yes, and as far as I know, the only person in the world who could control all the seasons, is Mother Nature herself," Jack continued.

"Oh, so she creates all this snow?" Emma asked.

"Well she does, but it's not her specialty really," Jack shrugged.

"Sooo, who is it then?" Emma continued.

Jack then put his hand under his chin, indicating that he was trying to think of something. Though, as another second went by, it didn't take long until Jack found an answer to continue the story.

"Why, the person who creates all this snow of course is the one and only Snow Queen," Jack said smiling.

"The Snow Queen?

I never heard of her, who is she?" Emma asked.

Jack then moved a little closer, "That's the thing Emma, no one has really seen her, maybe just a glimpse, but nothing more than that. The people are aware of her existence because of the snow really. Rumor has it, that the Snow Queen is just like you and me, a normal person with magical powers.

But…others say she's just a witch, isolated in a castle; not wanting to be bothered by anyone. And, in exchange to be left alone, she'd spread her gift for the people only for the time of winter."

"So, is she evil Jack?"

Detecting possible fear building up, Jack then shook his head; not wanting Emma to be frighten. After all, he thought that anything having to do with fear had to be the Boogey man's job.

"Well, people have different opinions about her, and not to scare you, but most think she is evil due to her power itself. Most people hate winter because they get cold, and you can get sick if you're out there to long, so because of this negative thought, not finding the positive like me, people label her as being evil," Jack said looking out the window.

"So, to answer your question Emma, she could be evil, or she could be good; no one really knows since they never met her," Jack finished; turning back to his sister.

"Oh," Emma said; lowering her head.

But then Jack gave a slight laugh, "But you don't have to worry Emma, as far as it concerns you, you're safe. One thing's for sure; she's nothing like the Boogey-man."

"Yeah," Emma agreed.

"What would you do if you met her Jack?

Would you be afraid?" she asked.

"Hmm…I would probably like to have a friendly conversation with her if I ever met her. After all, whether if she's a normal person with powers or a witch, we both have one thing in common," Jack said wanting to through a laugh.

"Yeah, love for winter," Emma added in, "So then you wouldn't be afraid?"

"No, I really wouldn't be," Jack smiled.

"Personally, I think she isn't evil," Jack said in his mind.

"And, just so you know Emma, she's not the only one that has the power over winter, there are others, but she's the one that popped into my head first," Jack added in.

"Oh, is that so?

Hey, maybe you should be among those people Jack since…well…you know," Emma said.

"Yeah I know, since I'm the spirit of fun, I love winter.

I'm basically the winter prince," Jack said; not knowing how true his words were soon going to be.

End of Flashback

Everything was extremely quiet in Sarah's room. Whether if she thought she was dreaming or was in shock, Sarah froze, staring at the figure in front of her. As the endless snow fell from the ceiling, Sarah managed to utter a name; a name she never thought she would say.

"It's you…it really has been you all along…"

"Jack Frost," Sarah stated; her eyes still locked on him.

Jack was taken aback, what was he suppose to do? What was he suppose to say? All these questions were rushing in his mind. To be honest, Jack had been ignored for so long, wishing a child would see him, and now that the time came, he figured it wasn't real and that he was dreaming once again. But, as time felt frozen, not wanting for this opportunity to slip, Jack moved his head closer, inches away from Sarah's; his icy blues, looking at her brown ones.

"You…you can see me?" he whispered; forming a smile.

As much as the possibility excited him, Jack tried to hold it back; not wanting to be disappointed as usual.

With nothing else left to say, Sarah finally spoke.

"Y-yes, yes I can see you," she said.

"Y-you're, you're the one who was looking after me the other day, weren't you?" she continued.

"Yes, that was me," Jack plainly said.

Then, without another word, Sarah smiled and jumped off her bed. It caught Jack completely off guard, but Sarah ran to him, and hugged his waist tightly.

"Mom was right.

You are real," Sarah said softly; still hugging him.

Again, Jack was taken aback, after trying to reach out to someone; it was quite surprising and unbelievable that a child was hugging him. Because of this, Jack only looked down and gazed at his sister's daughter.

"You know, you really do remind me of Emma when she was your age…" Jack thought smiling.

Jack then kneeled down to Sarah's level.

"Of course I'm real; who do you think brings all this snow?" Jack said.

Sarah then laughed weakly, "Well, before mom told me you did, I kind of thought it was Santa Claus….sorry."

"No it's ok, you don't have to apologize. Even though I've been around for a while, I'm still kind of new to this anyway," Jack said.

Sarah then made a confused expression.

"What do you mean you're new at this?"

Having the question in mind, Jack then got up and walked back to the window.

"Well Sarah, before me, there use to be someone else… who would create the snow," Jack said.

Hearing this, Sarah's eyes widen.

"Really, you mean there are others like you?" she asked; jumping back on the bed looking at him.

Jack then turned with a smile, "Yes, there are, but, I only managed to meet one. We both had the same power, though; we used it in a slightly different way."

"Really, who was that person Jack?" Sarah asked.

Then, as Jack turned away from the window, he walked back and sat on the edge of Sarah's bed.

"Have you ever heard of the Snow Queen?" Jack asked.

"Mmm…no not really, is she the one you met?" Sarah wondered.

"Yes she was the one, though it was years ago."

"So then, what was she like?" Sarah continued.

"Well, I wouldn't really have thought much about it, but, she was a loving girl with a caring heart. And, at first when I met her, I didn't even know she was a princess before she even became queen," Jack said.

"Oooh, a princess?

I wish I can be a princess," Sarah said; trailing off slightly.

"Yeah I bet you would like that, after all, she was just like everyone else; except what really made herself special, was the magical powers she had," Jack said.

But after a while, Jack then his lowered his head a little.

"But, even though she had that power, she feared she would cause harm to the people around her. So, taking matters into her own hands, she ran away and isolated herself from her home, her kingdom; being locked inside an ice castle."

"Oh, but weren't you there to help her?" Sarah asked.

"Well to keep it simple, yes, I did try to help her, but, let's just say in the long run, she found her way. Finding a happy ending for herself without much guidance from me. In the end, we learned many things about one another.

And I remember, before we went our separate ways, I made a promise to her that I would use my power in a positive way; to create beautiful things so people can see that winter isn't all that bad. I didn't want them to fear it like they did with her."

"Well you're nice Jack, I'm pretty sure if I met the Snow Queen too, I wouldn't be afraid of her," Sarah said happily.

"By the way, what was her name?" she continued.

Then as if Jack was drifting back to memory lane, he found that he had his hand over his chest. It wasn't clear to what he was exactly remembering or feeling, but as he looked down, his eyes were focused more to the blue hoodie he was recently wearing. Seeing this, Sarah was a bit confused, but instead of saying a word, she just innocently titled her head to the side; waiting for Jack to answer her question. As another second past, Jack then finally turned away from his hoodie, once again looking at Sarah.

"Her name was Elsa," Jack said with a warm smile.

"Elsa…" Sarah repeated slowly; taking in the name.

Being the little artist she is, Sarah had it in her mind to draw Elsa; to picture in what she could possibly look like, but as she finally realized it was past her bed-time; she figured she could do it in the morning. But, before she did, Sarah put her materials away, and went back to bed. Knowing what this meant, Jack helped tuck her in; saying good-night to her.

"Thank you…you'll….still be here, won't you?" Sarah asked; not really wanting Jack to leave.

Not realizing that he was treating Sarah as Emma when she was a kid, Jack patted her head.

"Of course kiddo, if you want, you and I can go play outside tomorrow. Maybe build another snow-man like you did with your brother," Jack said.

"I'll like that very much.

Good-night Jack," Sarah whispered; already drifting to sleep.

"Good-night…Sarah…" Jack whispered in returned.

Once when Sarah fell asleep, everything was instantly quiet and peaceful. The snow stopped falling from the ceiling as well as the butterflies and other magical creatures that were flying in the room. This would have been a good time for Jack to leave as he normally would, but before he left; he just walked back to the window, gazing at the big glowing moon before him.

"All through my life I had been trying to get noticed….

To try and spread some fun, and be who I want to be….

And…now that I've reunited with my sister and have a child that believes in me…

I wonder….you put me here for a reason; a reason that I've never come close to finding.

If you can hear me, please just answer me this….

Is this right? Is this truly my happy ending?"

Wanting to believe it was, Jack still couldn't shake being doubtful. After all, happy endings signify being grateful; having everything you always wanted. But...something didn't quite add up, Jack wondered...was it because of Emma? Was it really good to keep visiting her. Even if Jack never mentioned it, he knew when ever Emma saw him, she still felt guilty deep down; remembering that day.

Because of this...he wondered; should Jack just slowly disappear? So Emma could let go of the past, and move forward with the life she already has.

Jack kept his gaze to the moon as he thought about the idea.
