Automatic

Makoto's eyes were wide as he continued re-reading the text message he had received mere minutes ago. He honestly didn't know what to think and he didn't have the strength to keep his eyes on the entrance of the haunted castle. Could it be really true that Haruka was inside with Rin of all people? Even when they were together, would that automatically mean that Rin had done something to Haruka?

There's no real love in you.

Haruka stepped out of the haunted castle and he was glad he could inhale some fresh air. He had been inside for way too long and if he was honest, his visit turned out to be something unforgettable. His thoughts were wrecked and he had lost all reason in his body. Haruka tried to come up with a logical reason as to why he had kissed the redhead but he found no answer. Was it the dark and gloomy atmosphere? Was it the feral glitter in Rin's eyes? Was it the fact that Rin looked so… hot? Was it the fact that they'd shared something similar once before? Haruka balled his hands into tight fists and he glanced around to find his friends. He snorted when he saw that Nagisa and Rei were sharing an ice-pop but when he looked further, he saw the olive-haired male. Normally, Haruka would be grateful for that familiar and gorgeous face but now he felt a bit dirty. What if Makoto could feel or taste that Haruka had kissed someone else? Haruka was reluctant to go to his friends but Nagisa's loud cheering gave away his presence. The raven-haired male shuffled towards his friends and he tried his best to hide his secret.

"You were right, Mako-chan would never enter a haunted house!" Nagisa cheered as he pulled Haruka closer. The raven-haired male fell on the bench next to the pair and Makoto. He was snuggly sitting between them but Haruka was afraid to glance at the olive-haired male. Makoto was sure to be able to see right through him and Haruka wanted to avoid that at all costs.

Why do I keep loving you?

After a few awkward moments, the four boys decided to leave the fair and have a nightly-swim in the pool at school. They'd broken into the school on more than one occasion and it was of course Nagisa's idea to do it again. Makoto was reluctant at first, claiming that he was really tired and wanted to go get some rest but Nagisa's puppy-eyes did the trick. Haruka and Makoto had wondered why Nagisa wanted them to bring along their swimming pants but now it all made sense. Haruka was aching for a good soak so he was glad with the suggestion. It only seemed that Makoto was the only one that didn't really want to swim.

Haruka quickly stripped out of all his clothes and he could soon feel the cool water lap against his skin. Haruka hoped that the water would wash away the sin he had committed earlier on. Would that be even possible? Makoto hadn't said a single word to him since they were reunited and Haruka wondered whether Makoto already knew. When Haruka came up for some air, he saw Makoto sitting on the edge of the pool. He seemed to be in deep thought and Haruka felt a little guilty. He swam towards the boy with the thoughtful emerald gems and when Haruka reached Makoto's feet, he latched on to them. He gazed up in Makoto's eyes but it didn't seem that Makoto saw him. He was so far away in his thoughts that Haruka splashed some water upwards and a few droplets managed to hit Makoto in the face.

"What do you think you're doing?" Makoto bit out as he wiped away the droplets. Haruka's eyes widened and he gasped because Makoto seemed genuinely angry. Haruka thought back of all the times that Makoto had been angry with him and none of those were as bad as this time. Haruka wanted the water to swallow him and never spit him back out. What kind of life would he have without Makoto by his side. Would it be possible to have ruined their life by sleeping together?

"What's wrong?" Haruka asked softly and before Makoto could answer, he was pushed into the pool by a giggling blonde. Makoto fell against Haruka and the raven-haired male couldn't resist to wrap his arms around Makoto. At first, it seemed that Makoto didn't return the hug but soon enough, he was being held by the olive-haired male. They stayed under water for a few more seconds, before returning to the surface to get some air. When they breached the surface, Makoto gazed straight into Haruka's oceanic eyes and they shared their moment. Nagisa's giggles and Rei's whimpers could not be heard by the two boys. Their stare continued for a few fleeting moments until Nagisa wrapped his arms around Makoto's neck. The olive-haired male tried to shrug the blonde off of his shoulders but the little demon held on tight.

"I want to play a game," Nagisa whined as he pulled at Makoto's ear. The olive-haired male growled and Haruka couldn't help but laugh softly. Makoto looked heavenly under the gloomy moon light and Haruka wondered what it would feel like to make love right now…

The four boys were bouncing the inflatable beach ball between them and Nagisa and Rei were currently winning the game. Nagisa would always make loud noises to break the concentration of Haruka and Makoto. It worked 8 out of 10 times and Haruka dreaded the punishment they would receive if they lost. Haruka glanced at the sleeping bags that were splayed out next to the swimming pool. The losers would have to spend the night at the pool and Haruka didn't feel like sleeping on the cold tiles. He ached for his warm bed and he yearned for the warm cuddles he would receive from the olive-haired male. Haruka was so deep in thought that he didn't see the ball coming and he was too late to scoop it up. The ball hit the water and Rei and Nagisa cheered loudly. Haruka grunted as he realised that they did lose the stupid game. The raven-haired male wondered how it could even be possible to lose every single game Nagisa ever threw at him.

"You snooze, you lose!" Nagisa cheered and he high-fived his partner. Haruka gave Makoto an apologetic shrug but the olive-haired male didn't seem all that angry anymore.

"Don't be naughty," Nagisa winked as he and Rei left the two boys alone by the poolside. Haruka quickly dove back into the pool and he let the water caress his skin. It wasn't really cold outside, in fact, it was rather warm. Haruka felt two strong hands pull him back up and when he breached the surface, he was met with Makoto's soft gaze. Haruka didn't think that Makoto's bad mood would resurface any time soon. The raven-haired male even hoped to coax Makoto into some love-making in the pool.

"Why were in the haunted castle?" Makoto asked softly while brushing the wet strands of inky hair out of Haruka's eyes.

"To scare you, it was Nagisa's idea," Haruka muttered as he looked up at Makoto once more.

"But Nagisa left the castle a lot sooner than you did," Makoto continued and Haruka still didn't realise where this conversation was heading. Makoto's eyes looked so soft so Haruka let himself be tricked without even realising it.

"I went to look for you but I never found you," Haruka said softly while brushing him thumb over Makoto's lower lip to wipe away a few drops of water.

"Did you find anyone else?" Makoto asked and Haruka furrowed his brows. What kind of question is that?

"No," Haruka said firmly and he wanted to wriggle out of Makoto's hold but the hold was too firm and strong.

"You're lying," Makoto warned and his gaze turned into a furious one that normally was never used to look at Haruka.

"I saw Rin," Haruka said while looking at the reflection of the moon in the water.

"Go on, tell me what happened," Makoto urged and Haruka looked up again, only to regret it the moment Makoto's piercing gaze went straight through him.

"It was only a kiss…"

Your lie connects the beating of your heart. Why do you say things will get better, when they never?
