Chapter Seven

Having a New Years sleepover at Julie's house has been an annual thing ever since the sixth grade. Julie's an only child, so it's pretty peaceful at her house.

Mom had just dropped me off and I rang the doorbell. I instantly heard feet running on the hardwood floor. The door opened and there stood Julie, already in her pjs.

She eagarly opened the door.''Hi Andera!''She hugged me as though she hadn't seen me in two years instead of two weeks.

''Hey.''I returned the hug. I felt something clawing at me jeans, I looked down and saw that Julie's cat was playing with a loose piece of thread on my pant leg.

''Hello, Bootsie.'' I knelt down and rubbed the cat's silky fur. Bootsie purred like a car motor.

''C'mon, I'll help you with your stuff.''Julie took my sleeping bag and left me with just my duffle bag. Jules is sooo nice.

We dumped all my stuff on the carpet on Julie's bedroom floor. Julie had already set up all her stuff. We turned on the TV.

''How about we watch cartoons until about 11: 30 and then we'll change it to watch the ball drop?''Julie suggested.

''Sure.''I said. It sounded good to me.

We spent most of the night watching Disney Channel. Then, like every other person in the world, we watched the ball drop. We cheered and hugged each other.

Julie turned off the TV,''I'm not tired.''

''Me either.''Even though Julie's parents had said lights out after midnight.

''Let's just turn the lights out and whisper.''

We turned out all the lights, even our flashlights. We needed to be convincing. We crawled in to our sleeping bags and stared at the celing, we didn't feel the need to face wach other.

''If you could read antbody's mind who would it be?''I asked.

''Merideth Hollister. How about you?''

''My sister's.''

''Why would you pick someone as boring as Haylie?''

''I want to see the secret to be perfect.''

''Andera, nobody-''

''Nobody's prefect. I know. You say that to me every day.''

''Because you need.''

''What would I do without you, Jewls?''

''Nothing. I'm the only the only reason your as popular as you are.''

''You mean, you're the only reason I'm as unpopular as I am.''

''No, I don't. You're princess of the dorks.''

''Yeah, I should go around school wearing a crown.''

We both giggled.

Nobody's POV

At Brandon and Nikki's house, all the adults were sitting at the kitchen table. All the kids were down in the basement/playroom. Nikki had just finished telling the other adults about the ''problem'' with Andera.

''Mackenzie really pisses me off.''Zoey said.

''Yeah, I thought she'd change as an adult, but clearly I was wrong.''Brandon said.

''Remember way, way, back-'Chole started.

''Honey, how far back are you going?''Marcus looked at his wife.

''It was about the time Nikki got pregnant with Andera-''Chole continued.

''Oh boy.''Nikki rolled her eyes.

''Let me finish! Anyway, back then, remember when Mackenzie claimed she got a 'spern donation' but it was really-''

''A result of one of her many one night stands.''Brandon finished.

It was no secret that he was extremly uncomfortable talking about Mackenzie. He had hid the fact that Mackenzie had came to the vet's office on several ocasions in the past year claiming that ''her cat was sick'' and each time it ended the same way. Mackenzie would try to seduce Brandon, Brandon would say he was a married man and a father and to get out, Mackenzie would storm out of the office and say''Go to hell!'' and ''You'll be sorry.'' The truth was, Brandon wasn't sorry at all. Even though he didn't, Brandon always felt like he had commited adultrey just due to the fact that Mackenzie had tried and failed to seduce him.

''Mackenzie Hollister is a bee with an itch.''Nikki said.

''Amen.''Brandon muttered.

''Remember when she crashed your wedding?''

''Chole!''

''Sorry.''
