Chapter Nine

Andera POV

I sat in the library during stucy hour. I was looking up everything I could on guitars.

''Here's some more.'' Julie said plunking another stack beside me. ''Are you sure you can read these all in one hour.''

''No but I can try my best.''

You really want to do this?''

''Yup. Determination is my middle name.''

''I thought it was Nicole.'''

''Shhh.''Ms Malarkey, the librarian, shushed us from across the room.

''Looks like Ms Malarkey's got her crab on ..''Julie whispered. I giggled.

''Look! This is insane! I have like, twenty books here! Who knew there was so much to learn about guitars!'' I gestured to the pile of books in front of me.

''I'll help you narrow it down.'' Julie pulled a book out of the pile. ''I don't think 'The history of Guitars' is going to help you much.''

''Yeah. I hate history.''

After school, I was in my room, trying to figure out which finger goes where on my guitar. I was an awful crick in my neck from looking up at the book and then down at my guitar over and over again. I had figured out how to play half the scale, so I was feeling pretty proud of myself.

''That's suppose to be a G your playing a F.'' I looked up and saw Dad.

''Like this?'' I asked repositioning my fingers.

''No. Like this.'' Dad stood behind me and moved my fingers himself.

''Thanks.'' That was rare coming from me. I usually never asked for help.

''Let me know if you need anymore help.'' Dad said before leaving. ''Your getting good Ann.''

I smiled.

Two weeks later, I figured out how to play ''Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'' without missing. I wanted Julie to hear it first since she was my BFF and all.

''Hell-oh this is Julie.''

''Hey Julie it's me, Andrea.''

''Andrea, not to sound mean, but what do you want? It's nine thirty at night?''

''I can play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star ' on the guitar and I wanted you to be the first one to hear it.''

''WHAT? OMG! Let's hear it.''

I played through the song twice, to make sure she heard it.

''That was amazing! You are amazing! I'm like a proud mama right now! You should try out for the talent show!''

''No way Mereideth always wins! The rest of us don't stand a chance.''

''I'm sure everyone's tired of Mereideth winning.''

''Get real, Julie. We're the only ones that get tired of Mereideth Hollister.''

''If I try out for the yearbook poet will you do the talent show.'' The yearbook poet was something that Meredeth also always won. It was when a bunch of kids submitted a poem to the principal and the best one gets posted on the first page of the yearbook.

''It's a Deal.'' I said.
