Connor rushed out of the school with Imogen in his arms unconscious. " Help " she shouted as he spotted everyone outside the school building. Ms. Mulgrew and Mr. Clarke came sprinting over as Connor lay Imogen down. A single tear slipped down his pale cheek from his bright blue eyes. " What happened?" Mr. Clarke asked as he check Imogen for a pulse, before slipping off his jacket and placing it under her head. Connor began to speak but nothing came out of his mouth as a crowd gathered around them. Ms. Mulgrew placed her arm around Connors shoulders as the fire brigade and ambulance pulled up. " Come on , everyone, to the pe hall, there is nothing to see here, PE hall now" Mr. Clarke said ordering the students away. The paramedics took Imogen to the hospital, Mr. Clarke went with her informing her Mum of the accident.
Ms. Mulgrew and the other teachers sorted out the students getting them settled back into their classes when the fire was put out, before Ms. Mulgrew took Connor to the hospital to be checked over and of course to make sure Imogen was ok. On the way to the hospital Connor told his Mum what had happened with his art project and Imogen as tears fell down his cheeks.
On reaching the hospital, Connor and Ms. Mulgrew were sitting in the waiting room , waiting for anny news to come back on Imogen. Connor was pacing around the room, he couldn't and wouldn't relax and sit down until he had seen Imogen. A half and hour had passed before Mr. Clarke came into the waiting room to them. "Ms. Steward is with Imogen now who is asleep, she is ok , but has serve burns to her face and neck, that may possible scar" Tom said informing Connor, who stopped pacing to pay attention. " Connor the police will want to talk to you about what happened and Ms. Steward doesn't want you around Imogen just yet" he said softly, as Connor sat down with his head in his hands tears falling down his face, he felt so bad and so quilty, he just wanted too see his Imogen, that's of course if they would still be together when she finds out or remembers what has happened.
Connor spoke to the police, with the cover story him and his mum came up with on the way to the hospital. Connor told him that he had dropped the art project and it broke and he was trying to fix it, welding it back together when and bottle of chemical beside him spilled and , the welding torch set it a light.
Imogen woke up about 2 hours later, she was in so much and couldn't hear anything. The paramedics had to remove her hearing aids when they were in the ambulance as they had melted with the flames, well just on the one side. She felt a hand in her hand, but it wasn't the usual hand she was used to holding. Imogen looked to her side to see her Mum sitting next to her on a chair, seeing Imogen waking up she gently stroked her thumb over Imogens hand. Connor Imogen thought instantly, wheres Connor, was he hurt , what happened, was he ok? Thought began flying around her head. Imogen looked at her mum " Connor, wheres Connor?" she managed to ask but only in a whisper " I want to see him " she added. Imogens mom nodded getting the spare hearing aid from her bag and placed it in her good ear, hidden beneath her hair. " I will get him now " Imogens mom said kissing her daughters hand softly before going to find Connor. Imogen began panicking, what if Connor find out she was deaf.
After a few minutes the door open and Connor stepped in. Ms. Steward shutting the door over behind him letting them have some alone time. Connor looked at Imogen , his heart sank as tears streamed down his cheeks. Imogen let out a weak smile trying to lighten the mood " do I really look that bad " shee whispered, and held her hand up slightly for Connors. Imogen couldn't remember what happened except that there was a fire. Connor sat on the edge of her bed facing her as he softly took a hold of her hand as though it was so delicate and would snap under his touch. " I am so sorry, I really am " he whispered as Imogen tightened her hold around his fingers. Connor leaned down and placed a tender kiss on her lips , to which she returned the kiss.
Imogen spent 2 weeks in hospital recovering, Connor hardly left her side , unless when Imogen ordered him to go home to sleep and to shower. And of course he never ever stopped apologising either.
