"My idiom is 'Add insult to injury,'" Rukia thought a moment then offered, "I do that all the time."
"That's the truth,' Ichigo agreed.
"What?! Why are you agreeing with me?" Violet eyes narrowed.
"You hit me if I disagree with you. You kick me when I agree with you," Ichigo shrugged, "I can't win for losing."
Tears shimmered as she ducked her head, "Do I really make bad situations even worse?"
A suddenly nervous hand runs through orange hair, "That's not...I didn't mean..." The substitute stuttered.
She sniffed and turned away, "just forget it."
Ichigo expecting a handkerchief to be whipped out, watched her uneasily, 'Rukia is just acting as usual...'
The dark haired shinigami's shoulders began to shake. Voices approached the duo, panic swelled, frantic words of...comfort?...spilled, overflowed, "..look Rukia..." the teenager continued to babble, that is until a very distinct snort sounded from the 'crying' death god.
"..." Ichigo was rendered speechless.
"Your face!" Those were tears of laughter, "priceless!"
Angry and embarrassed, Ichigo stormed away from the scene. Rukia trailing behind, a chuckling, giggling shadow.
"Don't be mad. Orihime and I traded," she offered at his elbow, "Originally I had 'Pull a rabbit out of your hat.'"
"You gave up an idiom about rabbits?" Ichigo glanced at her in surprise.
"It means 'Do something unexpected,' so I swapped for 'Add insult to injury,'" She shrugged.
His mouth twists into a self-depreciating grimace, "So I was the victim of your antics again?"
"If it helps, think of this as training."
"You and your idea of 'training'," Ichigo rolled his eyes, "is always something unexpected."
Rukia grin blooms, "Then it's perfect. The enemy will be acting unexpectedly as well."
The substitute just groaned in defeat.
