So it occurred to me that the time gap between the creepy lady in the garage chapter and these past two to three chapters was not very evident, so I will fix that as best as possible so that you guys know.
Just for those of you that have reached this far and have not understood the time gap, Percy and Annabeth went and talked to David and Mrs. Lin the next day.
Full A/N at the bottom.
"H-Hermes said that?" I cringed at the surprise in my voice. I honestly thought Hermes wouldn't trust me after the whole Luke thing.
"Yes, indeed he did. Is there a reason that I should not trust his word, though?" Mrs. Lin narrowed her eyes at me in a threatening manner. Her tone said that I had better prove him right.
"No, ma'am. 'Course not," I said. I had to resist from using the slight southern accent Annabeth had given, tempted to see if it would work.
"Good," She turned to David, who hadn't said a word, but was watching us with interest. "I assume you have no idea what's going on…?"
"No clue." He smiled tightly at her.
Mrs. Lin turned to us. "I think I should talk to David alone. You two might want to dig out those pamphlets."
I said, "What pamphlets?" and Annabeth said, "Oh, Chiron got rid of the pamphlets a long time ago!"
"What pamphlets are we talking about and why am I not aware of them?" I gave Annabeth a look, and he just shrugged innocently.
Mrs. Lin gave a small smile. "Well, I'll do my part, but, you should know, that I don't know who they are. I've tried to figure it out, but I honestly do not know."
She led David out of the room. Annabeth stood up. "Okay, so obviously there is something very wrong about this boy. He doesn't seem to give off any attributes that would make me think of a certain god."
"He could be a son of Hermes," I shrugged. "Why else would Hermes feel the need to look after him. Maybe Hermes was concerned about David but didn't want to claim him just yet."
Annabeth thought over this for a moment. "I guess you're right, but think about it; Hermes would be sent to keep him safe if it was any other god, but, why would they wait to claim him, even after you made them promise- no, you made them River Styx swear- to claim all children, and David is certainly past thirteen."
I shifted uncomfortably in my chair. "What if he's not a child of a god?"
Annabeth stopped suddenly and looked at me. "Wha- Percy what are you saying?" She laughed, but not humorously, sounding almost nervous.
"Well, in the time that the Titans had been rising, don't you think they had time to , um…get it on?" I felt the blush in my cheeks and saw the same happen to Annabeth, though she plowed on.
"Well, yeah, but how could David be our age? It's barely been a year since the war." Annabeth's gaze was heated and it was almost as though I could hear the wheels turning in her brain.
I thought real hard: was there a place which would bend and shape time like that?
The Lotus Hotel and Casino.
"Reverse Lotus Hotel and Casino?" I shrugged; it was possible.
Annabeth's head snapped up. "Percy, that's genius! Oh, my gods, you're probably right."
I smiled; Annabeth calling me a genius? That's rare. "Should I record this?"
She laughed. "No. If anyone asks, I never said any of that."
I rolled my eyes. "Of course you didn't."
David and Mrs. Lin stepped in at that moment. David spoke first. "So…do you know who my parents are?"
Annabeth and I exchanged a look. "Sorry, David, we're trying to figure that out." Annabeth gave him a sympathetic look.
David nodded. I watched him carefully. "Are you okay, David?"
He smiled. "Yeah, I'm okay. Thanks Percy. So, um…what's this half-blood thing?"
"Camp Half-Blood is like a safe hell- sorry, haven- for demi-gods. We train there and live there for a lot of our lives, but a lot of demi-gods go out into the world, do things with their lives. You know Michael Phelps?" David nodded. "He's my half-brother."
"Don't look so proud, Percy. Abe Lincoln is mine." Annabeth said dryly.
I shook my head. "What do you train for?" David asked.
"A lot of things," Annabeth shrugged. "We train for battle, to reel in our ADHD, fighting monsters."
"Monsters?" David asked incredulously.
"You haven't seen any?" David shook his head at my question.
Annabeth frowned. "That's weird…could something be protecting you?"
"Look, I don't know! I don't know about your world, about all of this. This is new to me!" David looked angry and tired at the same time.
Mrs. Lin spoke up. "Maybe you ought to take him to Chiron."
"Mrs. Lin, I'm not sure if that's a very safe proposition. David seems to be protected here, but Camp Half-Blood regularly brings in monsters, and David might attract a lot, even with the strength of Thalia's barrier." Annabeth sounded uncertain.
Mrs. Lin stared a hole through Annabeth. "If there is a problem, then why would you call it a safe haven?"
Annabeth swallowed. "Yes, ma'am." Then she turned to me. "Percy should we take David to camp on Thursday?"
"Uh, uhmm," I stuttered, not knowing what to answer. "I-maybe, I mean, if you think we should-"
"Yes, okay, we'll take David to camp on Thursday. Is that alright, Mrs. Lin?" Annabeth ignored me, probably regretting asking me.
Mrs. Lin nodded, but David protested. "But what about school? And basketball?" His last question was directed to me, but Annabeth answered both of them. "We'll take care of that.
David still looked a bit unhappy, but nodded, obviously trusting Annabeth. If it was me, I'd be eating out of her hand, and so would my mother, I'm sure.
Annabeth turned to me. "Thank you, Mrs. Lin. Percy and I have some- ah- business- to attend to." Annabeth gestured to me and I followed her. We gathered our shoes and left without any last words.
Guys, I am truly sorry for the utter crappyness of this chapter, but I have hit rock bottom with this story. I have had it for more than a year (July 25th, 2012!) but I am close to a conclusion. We have about five more chapters to go. I told myself that I would finish this story, but it's very hard.
So, no, I'm not discontinuing it, but I am going to be ending it soon. How soon, I don't know.
To address some of my other stories; the Scorose fic I'm writing will not be up anytime soon, because it needs major editing, even re-writing.
I am not going to put up that Harry/Draco friendship fic anytime soon, either, as it needs re-writing.
Leo's Love was just a series of one-shots about Leo and his OC girlfriend. That is staying up.
The Right Choice was the most ridiculous thing I have ever written and I regret what I wrote there, but it is going to stay up, at least the first chapter.
I love you all, but school is starting again in two weeks, so ugh. I'll update the best I can, but don't expect a weekly or biweekly update.
Maybe one chapter a month?
Now, to address some reviews that we received:
For people that asked me if I'm going to continue this story: YES. UNLESS I OUTRIGHT SAY THAT IT IS DISCONTINUED, IT IS GOING TO BE UPDATED. PLEASE DO NOT REVIEW ONLY ASKING IF I AM GOING TO UPDATE, OR WHEN, BECAUSE, REALLY?
For the guest who claimed to be a Brit: 1) I recall writing a chapter where I apologized for that, and admitted that, as an American, we are rather limited to knowledge of European countries and their dialects. 2) I did not mean to insult you, and, if you would like, I can change the label to Cockney, rather than British. 3) I know that people in Britain don't all have the same accent, and I don't think you need to educate me on that any further, thanks much. 4) wth was the "Smugface" about?
For the reviewers who think this is a crossover: My loves, if it was a crossover, it would be labeled as a crossover. I only added Sadie and Walt as a small joke, because, what are the odds that they would meet?
I know some of you wanted a crossover, so maybe someday, I'll write a one-shot crossover. But I hope that you understand that the Egyptian gods will not take effect in this story.
If you actually read all of this, comment 'Yes, Chocoholic' in a review :) thank you!
Love you all, Chocoholic.
