The Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) is a small hummingbird, about 8 cm long (3 inches) with a long, straight and very slender bill. The female is slightly larger than the male.
Lisbon sits in the park fascinated at by the hummingbird. It's wings move so fast she can barely see them but it's going nowhere. It hangs suspended in the air, as if held by an invisible piece of string. Lisbon desires to take out a pair of scissors and free the bird from it's captivity. But there is no string, keeping it there, stopping it from moving on. One could say it stays of it's own volition, but it has no choice, it's the way it's made, it's its nature. Lisbon stands up, smiling ruefully, finally she understands Patrick Jane.
