Chapter 10: Secrets
Kirasari arched her back and kicked out with both feet, shooting green flames out of her bare feet. The flames whizzed over Masuru's head and out to sea. He gave her a warning look while the other soldiers watched in awe.
"Could you not do that here." The Captain stated at his little sister's unaffected look. Violet eyes lit onto her brother. "I'm not going to hit anyone," she replied with a bored expression. His amber eyes glinted, "That may be, but you happen to be distracting my crew." He rebutted earning a scowl from Kirasari.
The younger sibling closed her eyes in an effort to remain calm, before opening them with practiced poise. "Fine than. I wouldn't wish to cause any trouble. I'll practice elsewhere." She stated, giving him a small smile. Her face staying carefully blank as she quietly walked away.
"What is so important that you have to take me away from my meditation?" Kirasari asked quizzically as she joined her brother in his cabin. Masaru silently regarded his sister's face with a guarded expression. His scrutiny did not go unnoticed. "What's wrong Saru?" She questioned knowingly.
The Captain let out a short breath before closing the door behind them. "I need you to tell me where our mother's last known whereabouts were," He paused to assess her wary expression, "It's important." She gave him a calculating look as she lowered herself to the floor. "Why?" "She's my mother too. I have the right to know."
Kirasari gave him a stony stare, "Why?" She asked again with a bored tone. He exhaled in frustration at his sister's perception skills. "There was a fight that broke out in one of the Earth Kingdom villages. A few people died... Now where exactly did mother tell you she would be?" He stated with an unspoken edge to his tone.
The female Bender felt as if she had been kicked in the heart. The 15 year old visibly retracted into herself in disbelief. Violet eyes staring blankly into nothing. "When?" She asked quietly.
Masaru gave her a sympathetic look as he stood against the wall. "Not more than 3 days ago. She was killed in the crossfire." He replied with a carefully detatched voice. She didn't call him out on it though. "The last time we spoke... unpleasant words were exchanged... I left her at the encampment and didn't look back... Now shes gone.." Came her apathetic voice. "You weren't to know. There was nothing you could have done and there is no reason to blame yourself sister," The Captain stated in an equally apathetic tone.
"Sari, there is something else I need to tell you..." Masaru stated warily. His amber eyes studiously avoiding the violet of his sister's eyes. "What is it?" She asked curiously...
