I am on a roll! I am actually updating this story! *Happy Dance!* You guys can technically thank my parents, since it was their idea to watch Bourne Legacy and remind me that I have a story to be writing. I'm sorry that this thing is so short, but I couldn't think of very much for it, so technically it's a filler chapter again. :P I hope you guys enjoy it anyway!
I do not own Avengers, Bourne Legacy, or U.S. Marshalls. If you recognize it from something other than one of my other fics, I don't own it.
Chapter Five
Pawns
Nat awoke just as they were entering New York City. She knew that they were almost there, and that things were likely to get more dangerous once they were there. She quickly began tucking her things into her backpack, preparing for their arrival. Getting into the city wouldn't be difficult. It was getting to Stark Tower once they were in that would be the problem.
Aaron was beginning to pay even more attention to the cars around them and the people on the sidewalk. Determined to see the girl that he had come to think of as his sister safely to her destination, he was being more cautious.
Nat's stomach was tying itself in knots as they got closer and closer. She closed her eyes and pictured how Diana's face would light up with a relieved smile when they arrived. The thought calmed her a bit, and thinking of the man in the driver's seat calmed her still more. If he was anything like Clint, and he seemed to be even cooler than the SHIELD agent, they would make it to Stark Tower eventually.
Sam was stunned at the news he had just received. After hours of research, his team had found absolutely nothing about Natasha Higgins that would indicate what she stole or why. They also hadn't found where she was at the moment.
He had decided to call Eric Byer and ask him directly why it was that they were trying to find this girl. Byer's had reluctantly explained that many things that seemed to be just movies and TV shows to the general public were actually true. Superheroes and alien races and all sorts of things were actually real. Higgins had made friends with many of them, including lots of superheroes like the Avengers and Spiderman. The whole reason she was being chased was because they were afraid that she would leak the classified information to the public, and that there would be irrational panic.
Sam had hung up without saying another word. They weren't after this kid because she had done something. They were after her because they were afraid that she was going to do something. It was ridiculous and unnecessary. Sam decided then-and-there that his team was not going to be used again. He entered the office to tell his team to drop what they were doing. Good luck, kid. he thought in Nat's direction. You're gonna need it.
