Chapter 24

Aragorn arrived into the fray just in time to see Bee lunge from her bed, hands clawed to wring Arbellason's neck! Acting on his survival instinct he moved temporarily out of the way, allowing her to reach her target. It took the combined strength of him, Legolas and two Rohirrim to pull her off the poor stunned elf man. They each held her by the arms and legs, lifting her bodily off him. Arbellason, reeling in shock, wobbled to his feet and dusted the splinters of the ruined chair from himself.
"Well I never! What could have possessed a princess let alone an elven maiden to strike out in such a manner? Have you taken leave of your senses?" the elf demanded. Bee growled in anger struggling against those who held her, the only thought was that of the pompous elves neck between her hands. Legolas who had been holding the struggling elf released his grip and took a step forward to address Arbellason, "What business do you have here?"
Arbellason took one look at his Prince and stood to attention, "My Prince" he spoke bowing lowly "I have been tasked…"
Hearing enough Aragorn spoke up. "This elf is an emissary from your home realm Legolas, charged misguidedly with bringing Beriadanwen home. He has been hounding our company for many days, risking life and limb in a foolish attempt to take her home by force." He turned to glare at Arbellason, employing all his kingly wrath "He has impeded our mission once before and refuses to take wise advice. It has been made clear to him that Bee does not wish to return and still he pursues her."
"I am duty bound…"
Legolas cut him off with a princely flick of the hand. "Are you in the realm of Mirkwood young warrior?"
Arbellason was bewildered "No my Lord"
"Therefore you are not under my father's command. Do you recognise me as your prince and lord?"
"Yes my lord"
"Then I give you this command. Leave Beriadanwen in my care. I have no doubt my father will accept this, trusting my judgement. Do you understand?"
Arbellason struggled within himself for a moment before replying "Yes My lord"
"Good. Now, if you will aid us in our mission, you may remain. If not, you must leave and return home. You are dismissed"
Arbellason bowed curtly and left. As he departed Bee shrugged herself free from her holders.
"What in the name of Elbereth did you do that for? Letting him stay like that?"
"He may be nothing more than a nuisance to you Bee but the fact is that he is a skilled elven warrior. It is not wise to turn any warrior away in hours of need such as this."
Knowing he had a point but loath to admit it, she contented herself with swearing violently under her breath. Aragorn nodded to the Rohirrim men silently telling them that their help was no longer needed, the men existed the tent quietly.
Bee was silently fuming she could not stand the thought of Arbellason being so close by, he was probably coming up with a sneaky plan to steal her away in the night. The three stayed silent for a few moments not knowing what to say to one another, finally Bee spoke "Well, if you don't mind, I am in need of some well-earned sleep."
Without waiting for an answer she flung herself upon the bed and closed her eyes, pretending she could no longer feel the presence of the man and elf. After a few moments the elf left the tent quietly, leaving Bee and Aragorn alone.
"I am afraid I shall not be here when you wake." Bee opened her eyes to meet the eyes of the man.
"What are you talking about?" she demanded finding herself sitting.
"I leave for the Mountain pass, we have little hope in defeating our enemies with so few" Bee's eyes widened, none dared to enter the Mountain pass well none that came out alive. Seeing the concern in the elves eyes, Aragorn smiled slightly.
"None who dare venter there have returned" she said dramatically "And I don't think it's because they got lost on the way back" she added quietly. The Ranger nodded in agreement, he knew the risk of going into the Mountain pass but that would not stop him. He did not fear death. Seeing that her words had done little to change his mind, she knew that she had no choice but to give up her much needed sleep to help him. Doubting he would agree to that she waited until he took his leave of her. She then darted from her bed, throwing on her travel clothes. Swinging her bag up over her shoulder and hoping Arbellason would not see, she hurried out to the mountain pass.
