"Kenny, I'm home!" I sang out, swinging the heavy door shut behind me. "Ken? You here?"
Placing my bookbag next to the couch, I made my way over to the kitchen and found Kendall's note resting on the table.
Hi love! Hope class went well. I'm downstairs in the café. Come find me ;)
"Well don't mind if I do," I giggled to myself, quickly running to Kendall's room to steal one of his sweatshirts.
I pulled it over my head once I was in the elevator, humming a little tune that I just couldn't get out of my head.
Potential new song?...I think yes.
It was unusual for me to be this happy, especially because of the little glares and sneers Colin had been sending the two of us everytime we were out together. But I guess it's ok. Knowing that James and Kendall are so protective definitely gave me a confidence boost, and I was now able to go out on my own for short little trips without worrying about that jerk creeping up on me.
The elevator finally got down to the bottom floor and I stepped out, heading towards the cafeteria. As soon as I walked inside, I spotted my love's bright golden locks amongst the sea of blondes and brunettes.
I began making my way over to his table when someone- or something oh god- grabbed my arm and yanked me down.
"What the FU-"
"Shut UP it's me!"
"Lucy, what the fuck?" I snarled. "You scared the shit out of me."
"Sorry, Kara," she laughed. "Although your face was pretty damn funny."
"Yeah yeah." I glared at her and made a big show of brushing myself off. "So why'd you almost take my arm out of its socket?"
"Smartass," she rolled her eyes. "I think Colin may be um...paying you guys a visit today."
"Like right now?" I asked her, eyes going wide.
"I think," she nodded. "Because well um...you're y'know...nineteen now."
"He told you?" I gasped.
"Yeah, hon, he tells me and James everything."
"God dammit, Kendall," I growled. "Anyway, what do you think he's gonna do?"
"I don't know, and that worries me. He's such a conniving little bitch...I'm worried about Kendall."
"You're telling me," I sighed. "I'm gonna go see if they found anything out from Dave, ok? I'll come over later if something comes up."
"Sounds good," Lucy nodded. "Good luck."
"Thanks," I muttered. "Hopefully I won't need it."
I walked down another five tables to Kendall and wrapped my arms around his neck, leaning down to kiss his cheek before making myself comfy on his lap. "Hi," he grinned at me, pecking my lips.
"Hey handsome," I smiled, nuzzling my nose in his neck. "Mm you smell good, baby."
"Just for you, buttercup," he said softly in my ear, running a hand through my hair.
"'Buttercup'. Oh that's new."
I turned at the sound of Colin's voice, scowling. "Well if it isn't the Wicked Bitch of the West," I snarled.
"Ooh good one," he sneered, shaking his head. "So, my little slut, are you one yet, or did you manage to keep your legs closed?"
I felt Kendall's body tensing up from anger as he pulled me in closer to his chest, as if that would protect me from the sting of Colin's words.
"Listen here, you arrogant, egotistical little dickhead: If you have a problem with me, you can talk to me. But don't you dare even think about insulting my girlfriend because she was too good for your pathetic ass. Got it? Good. Now, what's your problem?"
I quietly intertwined mine and Kendall's fingers under the table on his lap, brushing my thumb over his hand to calm him down. He gave my hand a little squeeze, letting me know he was ok. Angry as hell, but ok.
"Alright, Romeo, alright. But you still didn't answer my question. Although I'm pretty sure it's a yes."
"That's none of your fucking business," I said through gritted teeth, glaring at him. If looks could kill, the fucker would be ashes by now.
"I'll find out. I have ways. And remember what I said, buttercup." Colin spat Kendall's pet name back at me and abruptly stood up, heading back to his "friends".
If you could even call them that.
Kendall put his right hand on my left cheek, turning me towards him. "Are you ok?"
I watched out of the corner of my eye as Colin and his cronies talked like a bunch of schoolgirls, pointing at us and whispering every so often, no doubt saying horrible things about my boyfriend.
"No," I whispered in response to Kendall's question. "How am I supposed to be ok when I'm constantly afraid of what he'll do to you?"
I averted my eyes to avoid Kendall's knowing gaze, instead changing the topic to fall break. "When are you leaving?" I mumbled my question into the soft fabric of his shirt on his shoulder.
"On Friday. But I'll be back by Wednesday at the most, I promise."
"Sweetie, don't worry about it." I lifted my gaze and gave him a small smile. "Spend time with your family."
"Yeah but..." He trailed off, a thoughtful look in his eyes, before turning back to me. "You're my family, Kara."
"Oh god, Kendall, I love you," I grinned, leaning up to give him a sweet kiss. "You're the best."
Kendall pulled me into his chest, cradling me, and I relished in the warmth that spread through my whole body. "I love you."
It was the simplest thing. Just three little one syllable words. And yet, they held so much power.
"Well hey there, lovebirds."
I turned with an eye roll to James, greeting him with a wiggle of my fingers as a wave. "Where've you been?"
"Working," he responded, arching his left eyebrow and giving Kendall a look.
I turned to Kendall with my arms crossed. "Did you leave James to do all the work on the lab due before break, mister?"
"I um...No. I mean, um...Of course not. I would never. So uh...yes. We should work on that. Now. Upstairs. Let's go." Placing his hands on my hips, Kendall lifted me to a standing position, playfully smacking my butt to make me begin walking.
Lucy gave me a look as we passed by, and I could tell she had seen Kendall's little move back there.
"What can I say, Luce?" I laughed, walking backwards as I talked to her. "Boys are stupid."
