"Alright um...do you have everything?" I turned to the trunk of Kendall's car and counted the bags one last time. "I think that's it. You're good to go."

Placing my hands on his shoulders, I faked a smile as I kissed his cheek. "Drive safe, ok?"

Kendall took my hands in his and brought them to his lips. "I will. And I'll be back before you know it, sweetheart."

"Yeah," I sighed. "Make sure to have fun. And stick in a couple of good things about me, too," I giggled, shooting him a wink.

"Of course I will," he chuckled. "My brothers will probably know more about you than they want to."

"But not...too much."

"Hmm...we'll see about that."

"Ken!"

"Ok ok, I'll be smart about it," he laughed.

Kendall tucked a lock of my hair behind my ear, leaning forward to kiss my forehead. "I love you, baby girl."

"I love you more, handsome," I smiled as I kissed his nose. "You'd better get going. Let me know when you get there."

"Will do. And I'll call you every night, ok?"

"Good. Don't forget," I added in my warning voice, trying not to break into a smile.

"I won't, don't worry," he laughed as he sat down in the driver's seat. He pulled the door shut and turned the car on, immediately rolling the window down. "I love you. Wait, come here."

I stepped closer to the car and Kendall stuck his arm out the window, grabbing my hand and pulling me down for a kiss. "That's better."

"You dork," I teased, ruffling his hair. "Be careful. I love you." I smiled at him as I stepped back once more, waving all the way until he rounded the corner and his car was no longer in sight.

I headed back upstairs to our room, and, figuring I wouldn't get any work done, settled down on the couch with a cup of tea. Lazily flipping through TV channels, I smiled when I spotted Aladdin, my favorite classic Disney movie, and cuddled up with a blanket while watching.

Three hours and two movies- yes Disney, don't judge- later, Kendall still hadn't called or texted, and I was growing worried. He should've reached by now.

I flipped to the news to check on traffic and screamed as three things I never wanted to see in my life popped up on the screen.

A picture of Kendall.

"Crash."

"Critical condition."

LUCY'S POV

I was sitting on my bed, laptop settled on my legs writing a paper when I heard the scream from next door.

And this was no typical scream. It was one of pure shock and terror.

I dropped everything and ran out the door, tripping over myself in my haste to get to Kara. I picked myself up off the concrete and banged on her door.

No response.

Fearing the worst, I braced myself for the pain and rammed my shoulder into the door, to no avail. Wincing, I pulled out my phone and quickly dialed James' number, frantically getting the story out.

He came running down the corridor a minute later, shirt half off and eyes frantic.

"James, do something!" I pleaded, eyes brimming with tears.

"She didn't answer?"

I merely shook my head, unable to get any more words out.

"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! Ok Luce, I'm gonna get the door open somehow. Don't worry ok? Breathe. Just breathe."

We managed to get the door down after three failed attempts, finally barging into Kendall and Kara's room.

The sight I witnessed when I stepped in was something I never want to see again.

Ever.

JAMES' POV

"Kara!" Lucy let out a shriek as I ran to her limp body, lifting her up and off the glass coffee table.

Kara had a huge cut across her forehead and several others adorning her face, no doubt from falling straight down into the table. She was most definitely unconscious, her skin a sickly shade of white.

I glanced up at the flickering images on screen, nearly dropping Kara to the floor as I saw the "Breaking News" story.

"L-Lucy," I choked out. "Ken. Ken. Kendall. Hospital. Car. Go."

KARA'S POV

"Ken..." I let out a groan as my eyelids fluttered open, immediately squinting against the bright lights in the hospital room, my hand fidgeting with the various bandages on my face.

Hospital.

Kendall.

Oh god.

Throwing the sheets off my body, I clambered out of the hospital bed and slipped on my clothes, ready to go find my love. James came in with a bouquet of flowers as I was leaving, his large frame blocking the doorway.

"No way you're going anywhere, darling," he said gently, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "You shouldn't be walking around."

"James, please. I need to find him."

"Then I'm going with you."

"Fine, whatever. I just need to see him...make sure he's ok."

"Just um...be prepared ok? He's not, um, he's not in the best condition."

"But he'll be fine, right?"

"I hope so."

"James." I turned to him and placed my hands on his shoulders, looking him dead in the eye. "He'll. Be. Fine. Right?"

"I'm sure he will. It'll take time but... I'm sure he will."

"Thank you," I breathed out. "I think I'm ready to go see him now."

We made our way to the nurses' desk on the floor and found out the room number he was in, then down the hall towards his room.

"You ready, kiddo?"

"I guess."

I pushed the door open slowly and felt my heart shatter into a million pieces at the sight in front of me. "I can't- I can't do this," I cried, running out of the room.

James followed me out and cradled me in his arms, allowing me to lean on him for support. Two nurses walked by on the way to Kendall's room and I caught snippets of their conversation.

"...poor girl-"

"..hurt herself too-"

"The other victim-"

"I'm sorry," I cut in. "Did you say 'other victim'?"

"Yes sweetie," she responded sympathetically, rubbing my shoulder. "He's down the hall in 409. A uh...now let me see, hold on." She looked down at the clipboard in her hands and flipped a couple of pages over before looking back at me. "Ah, here it is. A Colin Harris. He was hurt prett- Honey, where are you going?"

"Kara! Kara, wait! Just wait a minute, god dammit!"

I heard James' voice ringing out down the hall, his feet slapping the floor as he ran after me, but I was a woman on a mission, not to be stopped.

You think you can hurt my Kendall and get away with it?

Think again, buddy boy.

Think again.

An animalistic cry worked itself out from the deepest corner of my being, and I let out a furious primal scream as I lunged at Colin, roaring, "You sick wreckless son of a bitch!"
