AusllyBeliever: Isn't Kendall just the sweetest? Aww I love him
"You're...You're okay," I choked out, walking over and delicately running my hand down the side of his face.
"I'm okay," Kendall nodded, squeezing my hand.
"I think someone else came to visit you," James joked, playing with the little bear in his hands as he stood in the doorway of the room.
"You're too cute," Kendall smiled at me, pulling me down to give me a gentle kiss. "Have you been sleeping? You look so pale."
"I've just been worried, that's all," I explained. "A lot has happened."
"Yeah I uh...I heard about Colin. And what you almost did."
"I'm sorry," I sighed. "I wasn't really thinking and I was just so incredibly angry. When I found out it was him, I couldn't take it."
"Don't worry about it, sweetheart. Just be careful. Now come here."
Smiling, I settled down in Kendall's open arms, careful not to put too much pressure or strain on his body. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I got rammed by a freight train," he chuckled, wincing soon after. It pained me to see him in this state. He'd brought so much light and joy into my life, and I felt like this whole thing was my fault. "Hey missy."
"Hm?"
"You've got that look on your face."
"Oh...yeah," I shrugged.
"Wanna talk about it, babe?"
"You're gonna get mad at me, I know it."
"I promise not to."
"Ken..."
"C'mon, Kara, trust me."
"I...I feel like this is my fault."
"Kara-"
"Wait, shush. Just think about it. If we hadn't met, we wouldn't be dating. Colin wouldn't even know you exist. And he wouldn't be trying...be trying to kill you," I choked out, voice wavering. "You'd be living your life, happy and free. Don't you see what I'm saying?"
"But you have to understand something," Kendall started, running his hand through my hair as we laid together, "I'm happy with how my life is. Of course, this wasn't part of the plan, but I wouldn't change anything for the world. Because then I wouldn't have you."
"You're amazing," I sighed, turning to kiss his jaw. "I'm sorry all of this had to happen."
"Don't worry about it." He dismissed my regret with a shrug. "I'm a tough guy."
"I know you are, baby," I smiled at my boyfriend, leaning on my elbow to kiss his cheek. "Are you tired?"
"Very," he nodded, settling back on the pillows lining the headrest.
"You should get some rest." I moved to get up when I felt a tug on my arm. "What's wrong?"
"Stay with me."
The next couple of weeks of recovery passed by in a blur, and soon Kendall returned home with only a sprained ankle and broken left arm to heal. Lots of bonding time was shared, as the second term had already started and we both had a lot of work to catch up on. Thankfully, all of my professors were understanding, save for the Bio psycho who "scoffed at the prospect of frivolous teenage love".
I didn't think it was worth it to explain my boyfriend was 20.
James, Lucy, Carlos, and Logan were over almost every day. After the horror we had lived through, all of us decided we needed to spend every fleeting moment together. We had become a tight-knit family, and I couldn't have asked for anything better.
Mom came to visit numerous times after the accident, teasing me about becoming a nurse instead of a vet.
And speaking of nurse...Blondie was absolutely lapping it up.
Not that I minded. Being with him constantly gave me a sense of security and comfort- plus he was extra cute when he complained about his body hurting and insisted only a kiss would fix it.
And well, since he was out of commission for the time being, you can guess what hadn't happened since my birthday. Oh yes, he complained about that. But thankfully not to me. No no, that was saved for James when I was "studying" with my music "blasting" so I "couldn't hear". Puh-lease. What kind of girl do you take me for?
James would always laugh and torment him, making terrible X-rated jokes until he was practically dying on Kendall's bedroom floor. Then James would leave and Kendall would take an agonizingly long shower which I resisted on commenting upon each time.
God, that took a lot of willpower.
Anyway, everything was going along relatively well until Colin crawled out from under a rock again. Of course.
"He's what?"
"Pressing charges for assault," Kendall rolled his eyes, handing me the letter. "Man, can you believe this prick?"
"Sadly, I can. It's just like him to turn on the waterworks and go crying to Daddy."
"What's so special about Daddy?"
"He's a lawyer," I grimaced. "And a great one at that. Although I suspect he pays his clients becau-"
"Kara-bear! That's terrible!"
"I'm sorry!" I couldn't help the tiny giggle that escaped as I covered my mouth. "I'm just being honest."
"Jeez, woman, you're a handful," Kendall teased, delicately brushing a few strands of hair out of my eyes.
"But you said I'm worth it," I responded in a singsong voice, sticking my tongue out at him.
"You're lucky you're cute."
"Why thank you. What exactly does all that mean for me?" I questioned, gesturing to the letter lying on the table.
"Well you could get off with essentially nothing. It depends on if he's gonna go full force with this."
"So if I talk to him...would he maybe revoke the charges?"
"Kara, you're not seriously going to talk to him."
"Oh yeah. I am."
