chapter 2

"Kid! Guess what!"

"Not now! I need to fix this. It's not symmetrical." After a little bit of tinkering Kid whimpered "I can't fix it. I can't do it."

"Yes you can. You've done it before." Kid looked at the tiny girl. She smiled at him cocking her head to one side, her eyes wide with that childlike innocence. Kid smiled coking his head to the same degree as hers.

"Come along kids, it time for dinner."

"But its not symmetrical! I can't eat if its not symmetrical!"

"I'll tell you what, while you eat i will make it perfectly symmetrical, and you can check it when your done."

"Ok!" Kid grinned, his chubby cheeks lifting with it. His golden eyes lit up with joy.

Knock Knock. Kid looked up from his drawing towards the front door. Henry passed through the room. Kid heard the door creak open slightly as he opened it

"Kid! get in here." Kid stood from the chair and hurried to the hall. At the door was Circe. She was bloodied and bruised, but when she saw Kid the look of utmost relaxation passed her face.

"Oh god, thank you." She sank to the ground and Kid nearly leaped forward. He grabbed her arms and pulled her into a hug.

"Your back. You came back." He pushed her off his shoulder and looked into her eyes. "Where did you go? What happen? And what are you so relieved about?"

"Kid, now isn't the time. She needs rest."

"Right."

The door to his room opened. He had been lying there unable to sleep. The lack of answers was tearing him apart. Kid sat up in his bed looking at the shadowy figure defined by the street light from the road.

"Sorry. I just panicked and came here without thinking. Go back to bed," Circe said turning from the room. Kid leapt out of bed and caught her hand.

"What is bothering you? You can tell me." Kid asked a little of the desperation for knowledge seeping into his voice. Circe turned back to him, laid her head on his chest, and sobbed.

They all sat around the coffee table. Circe sat on one side, knees drawn up to her chest. Her cup of coffee sat on the table, slowly growing cold. Circe stared at it without seeing it. Kid and Henry sat on the other side of the table, Watching her face as they waited for her to speak.

"I left to become a witch. I knew my mother was, and though most witches are bad, I wanted to prove him wrong."

"Circe-" Kid sighed

"I went to this witch and asked her who could train me. She suggested Medusa.

"It was terrible. She taught me how to perform witchcraft, but she taught me to be cruel with it. I tortured-" she swallowed. "But not people. I couldn't do that. Of course that stubbornness didn't end well for me.

"You wondered why I was so relieved. It was because she said she would take my soul, and use my body to do her deeds. she said she would have me kill you and then give me my soul back so I could see you die," she choked off, trying to keep the tears at bay.

Kid got up and walked around the table, sitting next to her and wrapping his arm around her. "I'm so sorry."

"Don't be," she replied quietly leaning her head on his shoulder. Henry left, and when he came back 10 minutes later, they were still there.

"What is that?" Kid asked, cocking his head to the left. It was a tiny thing. It was long and sleek, seeming to slither as it moved around, except for the fact that it was walking. It was a dark-ish red with black spikes up its spine. Its wings were almost the same size as its body, but still managed to fit nicely up against its back.

"That? That is my tattoo of a dragon. I can use witchcraft to bring it to life, make it grow or shrink. Very useful."

"Oh." It coughed and blew a plume of smoke. It was definitely adorable.

"Don't let its cuteness fool you. When it is bigger, it is absolutely terrifying."

"No way, it couldn't be," Kid murmured to himself. But the facts fit. A witch who somehow made a dragon appeared from her back. And how it moved was exactly like her pet. Kid didn't want to believe it. If Circe was that witch and she was working with that assassin, then did that make her his enemy?

"Hey." Kid turned. Soul stood there, hands in his pockets shoulders slumped, overall 'mastering' the look of 'cool'.

"Soul. What brings you up here?"

"You. We have heard about the new student, but we have no idea who it is. Since Lord Death is your dad, we were hoping you could tell us who it was?"

"Oh yes the new guy. No idea."

"Right."

"He did say something about them arriving today."

"Oh," Soul walked up to the ledge. He leaned on the rail and looked towards the ground. He frowned. "I think our new guy is here. With a couple of lackeys. Shall we go meet them?"

"Sure." Kid and Soul bolted to the front doors. When they got there Maka was waiting.

"Hey Soul, Kid. Looks like our new guy is a girl."

Kid looked from Maka to the strangers. The two lackeys he didn't know, though one did seem familiar. The leader however he knew very well.

It was Circe.
