Chapter 3: The 'Rewards'
As I flashed into the throne room of mount Olympus I quickly realised one thing... everyone, and I mean everyone was staring at me. Everyone, gods, goddesses and demigods were staring at me, all with different emotions; some with awe, gratitude and friendship. But the most unsettling emotion I saw from a single pair of grey eyes was that of Athena, her eyes held untold amounts of grief and despair. Those grey, piercing eyes meeting mine. Her once long curly princess like hair hung limp, and her pale skin stained with marks of dried tears. The vast quantity of pain I saw in her eyes from the lose of Annabeth tore at my core.
I slowly tore my vision from Athena and continued to look around the grand room, Jason and Piper were stood side to side, Pipers head resting on Jason's shoulder. Next to them was the rest of the prophesied demigods; Hazel, Frank, Leo. In front of them was the Olympians, sat on their thrones at full godly height.
All of this happened within a couple of seconds as my brain tried to comprehend the utter chaos that followed. I was aware of a bone crushing hug from a male, his strong broad shoulders pressed against my own, I also realised something wet on the back of my neck. "Perseus my boy... y-you're alive?" My Father asked as I gently pried my self away from his overly protective embrace.
"Hi dad.. I've been busy, but yeah.. I'm safe" I smiled and hugged Poseidon again. I tilted my head to the right and gave my friends a quick nod, notifying them that I would talk to them later.
Poseidon flashed back into his throne and whispered to Zeus, even from the moderate distance between myself and the king of the gods I could see his eye twitch and annoyance settle on his face. Quickly he snapped his head and stared at me. "Now then... now that Perseus has arrived lets finish our celebration by rewarding the remainder of our heroes." Zeus switched to his Roman form Jupiter, he then looked at Jason and Piper and requested them to kneel before the gods. "Jason my son, for your courageous and valorous act in this war, we the counsel offer you the gift of immortality to yourself and Piper McLean as well. Do you accept?" Jupiter boomed.
Piper and Jason looked at each other longingly before a smile graced both their faces, simultaneously turned and faced Jupiter and spoke in a soft but clear tone "We accept your generous offer my lord." Jupiter smiled at his son and his lover, with a click of his fingers two bright golden apples appeared in his hands, lowering them to the couple they quickly consumed the golden apples of immortality. A small, faint glow surrounded their bodies as they walked to the back of the crowd.
I glanced at the crowd once more and noticed that the rest of the seven had a sligh shimmer of gold around their outline, signifying they too have received the blessing (or curse) of immortality.
I am happy for them, they all deserve it if not more, we started this journey off as mear mortals, pawns of the gods. But we rose above the standards, of what was expected and surpised what everyone thought was possible. We united the Greeks and Romans, we returned the Athena Parthanos, escaped Tartarus and finally sent Gaia back to her slumber.
"Perseus Jackson!" My father boomed, his voice laced with power as it echos across the throne room. My head snapped up and my back straightened. I looked all around me and noticed that the entire rooms eyes were on me, some in petty, non-difference or in the case of Ares a death glare. "Does anyone believe my son is not worthy?" Not a soul responded. "Son, if you wish, you may join me in godhood, and as the thirteenth Olympian!"
'Well shit... how am I going to explain this? I really screwed the pooch with this one'
"Father I can not-" I was interrupted as another flash tore through the throne room. As the light dimmed down I saw three figures standing in the middle of the throne room. Immediately all beings in the room bowed to the three Moirai, otherwise known as the fates.
Lachesis and Atropos stepped forward, digging into her tunic Lachesis pulled out a sea green thread, the thread was about a foot long and was covered in knots. The most interesting thing about the thread was the slight golden glimmer that surrounded it.
As I gazed into the piece of sea green string I saw my past, present and future. I saw my birth, the warm glowing smile my father gave me as a child, returning Zues' bolt, the death of Zoe Nightshade and Beckendorf. I saw my self and Annabeth in Tartarus, and many more images of my distressing past. The most confusing part was of my future, I saw blurred images, images of long golden curls, a large dragon like beast, and a towering behemoth. These visions went as quickly as they came, yet it filled my already ADHD mind full of questions.
Lachesis spoke. "Perseus can not obtain godhood, he is not destined to be one of you Olympians, as my mother Ananke spun the thread of all creation, she decried that one child would live a life full of pain and misery, but would reach unfathomable greatness, one which would slay the mightiest foes, and even stop time itself" Lachesis voice was old and hoarse, as if she has not uttered a word in millennia.
Atropos moved towards Lachesis, she wordlessly brought out her shears and slowly brought the strand of life between the blades. And with a loud snap she clamped the blade down onto the sea green thread, however the strand stood firm and undamaged. "As you can see, young Perseus is already immortal, to be specific a Titan." Atropos' gnarled voice spat out each word as if she was in pain.
Together the fates spoke. "All hail, Perseus TheĆa (Perseus the Divine) Titan of Time, Harvest, Loyalty and Sacrifice." With that all three vanished from the throne room, leaving me with a room full of surprised, jaw dropped deities. The most noticeable was Zeus, who's hand was itching towards his master bolt.
"Is it to late to say surprise?" I said with a nervous grin, I swear I saw my dad's face dead pan, but also Zeus' face twitched in annoyance.
"A Titan eh? And when Perseus, were you going to tell the council this?" Zeus' voice rose with each word, anger very much evident.
"I was actually just about to tell you when the fates interrupted, if it makes things better, then I, Perseus Theia, swear on my divine soul, that if I betray Olympus, that the creator them selves may throw my soul into the void, where it will be scattered and destroyed for ever." I don't know where the words came from but the effect seemed well... effective. The temperature plummeted, the room darkened and thunder rumbled.
Zeus visibly relaxed into his chair, accepting the solemn oath. Athena however looked worried, "Perseus, do you not realise what you have just done?" My silence answered my question as I ponder the implications I could have set on my self. "The oath you just stated is an ancient oath, it has not been uttered since the time of the Titans, if you break it then you will die, no resurrection or afterlife, but non-existence."
Just as I was about to reply my father beat me to it. "Enough, Perseus has still served us, and has brought us peace. The least we can do is offer him a wish." My father glanced at Zeus to see if this was acceptable, and with a curt nod from my uncle, he looked back at me.
"Father, for my wish I would like for Hestia and Hades to be reinstated as Olympians, we could not have won this war, nor the second titan war without them. As well for the peaceful titans to be released like I requested last time." I glanced towards Leo who shook his head in confirmation. "As I believe Calypso still has not been freed from her imprisonment."
Zeus rose from his throne and looked towards the rest of the council. "The council find your terms agreeable, if nothing more is to be said then I declare this council meeting over, once again I thank you brave heroes for your valiant and courageous effort in this war, if not for you then this world would be on its knees before a tyrant." And with that Zeus slammed his master bolt into the floor of the throne room, two new thrones grew, one pitch black; covered in diamonds and the souls of the dammed. The other a blend of orange and red, making the throne look like a fire is burning from the inside.
One by one the occupants left the throne room, not sure of what to do I stayed standing, dwelling on what has just happened. Not until minutes later did I realise that I was not the only being in the throne room. I looked to my left, not even five meters away was a pale skinned, golden haired goddess, "I would like to talk Perseus."
