C5.

It had been over a week since Damon had arrived at Jenna's flat. Jenna had managed to sell the flat, pack her stuff and quit work all in record time. Now though, it was time for a new chapter in all their lives.

"Jer, can you tell Jen I said I placed her last box in my car, for the last time."Damon sighed.

Jeremy chuckled, "Sure man. You know aunt Jenna, she's all over the place, as usual."He smirked at the irate vampire and ran to look for Jenna.

"Elena, are you almost ready? God, I didn't realize it would take you 2 HOURS to finish getting ready!"Damon shouted up the stairs. I love this family, he thought. But must they take so long?

Elena laughed to herself, she'd been sitting on the bed waiting for Damon too shout for her. She wanted to rile him up. "I've been ready for 45 minutes, baby."

Damon growled and flew up the stairs. He threw himself on the bed, and pulled Elena into his arms. Elena smirked mischievously at him, "Are you ready?"

"Shh."He laughed, placing a finger over her lips. He pulled her in for a gentle kiss before he pulled them off her bed and down the stairs. If anyone else attempted to rile him up, the old Damon would've most likely either drink from them, kill them, or compel them. But he wasn't that guy anymore. Well, not as bad.

He had Elena to thank for that.

"Jenna! Jeremy!"Damon shouted, "Where the hell have you gotten to now?!"

Elena stifled her laugh, "They aren't children, honey."

"No, but they keep disappearing, I swear. They're both worse then children!"Damon pouted.

Jenna smirked from the bathroom doorway. "We are here. We were actually waiting for you, Damon, Elena."Jeremy allowed a bark of laughter to escape his lips before he ran towards Jenna's car.

"Oh hush. Go get in your car and drive it. All the way to Mystic Falls."Damon groaned, leaning against Elena's small hand that she'd placed on his back.

Jenna smirked again and motioned for the couple to leave the premises before she locked the door. As soon as the key was out of the lock, she became serious again. "So I drive myself and Jeremy to Mystic Falls, and you will drive yourself and Elena? Are you sure we've got everything? We cannot come back once we've left."

"I'm positive, Aunt Jenna."Elena smiled, kissing her aunt on the cheek before snatching Damon's keys from his pocket and climbing into his Camaro.

Jenna nodded. "Okay, see you soon then."Damon nodded, leaning forward and kissing Jeanna's cheek before he too clambered into his car.

"You ready for this? To go back?"Damon asked as he pulled out of the driveway. Elena bit her lip and sighed.

"Yeah. I think so, as long as you don't leave me."The way she said it almost sounded as if she was asking a question.

Damon smiled as he pulled into the highway. "Never baby."

Damon had connected some sort of bluetooth device to his and Jenna's car for the journey to Mystic Falls. It was so they could keep in contact if one lost the other. Right now, it wasn't for that situation at all.

"Jenna, I didn't mean it like that. I meant that they are more comfortable in my house. Not that they are more comfortable with me rather than you."Damon said, sighing slightly.

They were cruising down the freeway at 100mph, breaking the speed limit, yet uncaring. "Damon, I know you meant it like that. And I'm sorry. I've been a bit defensive over the kids since Grayson and Miranda died. You know that. But I still apologize."

Elena was crying, her forehead leaning against the car window. About half an hour into the car journey, which was about 20 minutes ago, her and Damon got into an argument.

"Damon, I'm so sorry. I know I shouldn't have said that! I didn't mean it, baby."Elena spoke. She had called him overbearing when he had walked her to the bathroom at a gas station. All she wanted was five minutes peace. Alone time. Elena time. Damon may be part of 'Elena' but she didn't need him following her everywhere.

Damon growled slightly, "I'm sorry, Elena. But if you didn't mean you wouldn't of said it."

Elena had to agree. He was right, if she hadn't meant it, she wouldn't of said it. But she did say it, which means she did mean it. "I'm sorry."

Damon pulled his body as far away from the brunette as he could. He could feel the anger and pain coursing through him. Here she was, expecting him too look after her. Provide for her, love her. Oh, who was he kidding? She didn't expect any of these things. In fact, he knows for a fact, she expected nothing from him. Neither did Jeremy, or Jenna. He knows she didn't mean what she said in a bad way. He knows he can be a bit overbearing at times, but only for the people he loves. And Elena knows that. Which is why she doesn't hold it against him. Also why she apologized.

Damon was still sitting as far away as possible. 5 minutes ago, he and Jenna had gone separate ways. Jenna needed gas, Damon need groceries for the three humans that would be accommodating his house for a while. He sniffed lightly, the breeze from the rolled down window refreshing, but something tangy came along with the fresh smell.

Is Elena crying? Damon thought, feeling slightly worried. He heard her sniff. She was trying to keep quiet for his sake. He knows that. He also knows he should stop being an ass and comfort his girl.

He pulled over in the cold-shoulder. "Elena." Hearing him say her name caused the dam to break. The tears now flew freely from her eyes, the pent up emotions of the last twenty minutes finally getting too hard too keep in. "I'm sorry,"She whispered, her voice coming out in a strangled tone.

"Hey, baby. No, don't worry. I'm sorry,"Damon cooed. He undone hers and his seatbelt and pulled her over to his lap, were she sobbed into his shoulder. "I overreacted, and I'm sorry. You know how much you mean to me, honey."

Elena sniffled. "I am truly sorry, Damon." She whimpered, trying to sink into his arms as much as humanly possible.

"I know."They sat there for a few minutes, exchanging tender words, kisses and hugs.

"I think we need to get to this grocery shop then, don't you?"Damon finally murmured into her hair. Elena nodded, looking up at him from his chest. She slid reluctantly back into her own seat, frowning slightly at the coolness it brought too her body suddenly.

Damon smirked as he felt her cool emotion pass through him. He turned the car back on and headed for the store.

"What do we need?"He asked once they reached the store.

Elena quirked an eyebrow, smirking slightly. "Food. Drinks..you know. The usua-"She screeched when Damon picked her up by the waist and put her on his shoulder.

"Gilbert. I did not come here for your sass. Sh."She laughed, threading her fingers through his hair. Damon kept her on his shoulders the entire time they shopped, getting weird looks from other customers and store clerks, but, in true Damon style, he couldn't give a shit.

Once they'd shopped for food, drinks, you know. The usual, They carried on the journey to Mystic Falls whilst playing pathetic, useless games to pass the time.

"Hello?"Elena murmured as she answered her phone.

She winced when the person on the other end squealed. "Elena! Its me. Are you still coming home today?"Caroline yelled down the phone excitedly.

"Hi, Care. Yes. I am still coming home today. I won't be able too see you though."Elena sighed, glancing at Damon as they pulled into the boarding house driveway.

"Why not! Fuck sake, Elena. I've been waiting to see you for like 6 weeks. So has Bonnie."Caroline protested. "I know this summer has been hard on you, but your parents dying shouldn't stop you from seeing your friends!"

Elena growled lightly under her breath. "There's the Caroline I know. The Caroline with no tact whatsoever."Elena yelled as she cut her friend off. "Goodbye, Caroline. I will see you at school."She whispered coolly.

"No, Ele-"Elena ended the phone call as she opened the car door.

Damon frowned as he collected all the bags from the boot. "Whats up, baby?"He had heard both ends of the conversation, but thought it would be..polite to ask instead.

"Caroline. I know you heard, so.."Elena smiled slightly at his concerned face.

Damon sighed, "I know. But I promised to try at being polite, and its polite to ask. Isn't it?"He said, quirking an eyebrow at her.

"Yes, Damon. It was very polite of you!"Elena praised, proud of her vampire. She knew how difficult it was for him to change, even though some of it came naturally.

She didn't exactly agree with him changing, but it was something he wanted. So she agreed to help him overcome his 'Demon' as he put it affectionately.

"Damon, Is Jenna here? I don't see her car?"

"No. Jeremy just text me. They will be another ten minutes, at least."Damon said, motioning with Elena to enter the boarding house first.

Elena nodded, accepting the explanation. "Damon!"She then screamed when she entered the home.

Damon dropped everything in his arms and was instantly next to Elena. Silently, he thanked his supernatural speed.

"What are you doing here, Stefan."He growled out, spotting his younger brother on the sofa, the hunger and lust evident in his eyes as he saw and smelt Elena.

Stefan grinned maliciously. "I'm here to finish what you started, of course."Damon quirked and eyebrow at him, shifting in front of his terrified Elena. "Oh, Damon. Don't tell me you've forgotten about our little...feud."

"Shit."Damon whispered to himself, preparing himself slightly for the worst. For decades, him and Stefan had a feud going on between the pair. This was when Damon had no humanity. Now, he deeply regretted everything he did to emotionally hurt his brother.

Stefan started it. He killed Damon's witchy friend, Lizzie, 40 years ago. So Damon retaliated, and killed Stefan's girlfriend at the time, Selina. They had each murdered someone close too the other. Damon thought it was finally over.

But no. Stefan was here to kill Elena.
