"Can't sleep?"
Ginei turned around to see Ichigo come out of the sliding glass doors with two cans of soft drinks in his hands. Ichigo quietly shut the door behind him with his left foot and resumed walking towards Ginei. He handed him a drink. Ginei nodded in gratitude.
"I could say the same to you." Ginei said taking a sip from the can.
"Touché." Ichigo said, opening his drink. "But I mean, this is your dorm, which is great by the way, and you aren't sleeping. I find that kind of strange."
Ginei merely shrugged, taking another swig at the drink. "I have my reasons… and you?"
Ichigo smirked, setting the drink down on a nearby balcony table. "I guess I just don't want to."
"Huh."
"Besides," Ichigo said, "It's the weekend… No tests or assignments to worry about… I'm going to live up a little, y'know?"
"Amen to that brother." Ginei said, raising his can. Ichigo did the same.
"So what are Tsukune and Moka up to?" Ginei asked.
Ichigo looked over his shoulder, towards the glass doors. "Well, Tsukune knocked himself out on your couch… and Moka is by the fireplace… reading or something, I dunno."
"Oh…" Ginei said, "Aren't you gonna go join Moka?"
Ichigo raised an eyebrow. "I hope you aren't implying what I think you are implying."
"Oh relax Ichigo." Ginei said chuckling. "Besides, what would I be implicating? Tsukune is asleep. I'm boring as hell. And Moka is alone by the fireplace reading, quote end quote. So all that's left is, why the heck not?"
Ichigo sighed. "I mean it's late Gin. And from what I saw what she did to those obsessive radicals… I just want to stay on her good side…"
"Aw, c'mon…" Ginei said, softly punching Ichigo on the arm. "You've gotta step up your game."
Ichigo chuckled, shaking his head. "Me? To have chance with a girl on that caliber? You've gotta be joking…"
"Why not? I mean, she clearly has-"
Ichigo looked his way. "What? What about her?"
Ginei cleared his throat. "Ah, never mind. I was talking nonsense…"
"Huh, okay." Ichigo said, walking towards the railing on the balcony. He looked up to the night sky and saw a full moon with small, dark clouds scattered around. "It's a full moon tonight."
Ginei sighed. "Yeah… It is." He was fumbling around with something that was laced around his neck. It glistened from the moonlit night sky. Upon closer inspection, Ichigo realized that it was necklace of a wolf pendant.
"What's that?" Ichigo asked.
Ginei glance his way. "Oh, this?" He said, showing the silver pendant to Ichigo. "This is… well… a memento I got from someone a while back."
"Really now?" Ichigo said, amused. "Who would that be?"
Ginei sighed. "I'd rather not say."
"Why? Did it end badly?" Ichigo asked.
"More or less…" Ginei said, shrugging. "And no, it wasn't because of a girl."
Ichigo scoffed. "And you got me there for a sec."
"Wait, what the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"I'd rather not say." Ichigo said, smiling devilishly.
"You bastard." Ginei said jokingly.
Ginei then looked at his wrist to check the time and saw that it was almost midnight. He let out a sigh and wiped the glass casing on his watch with his sleeve, rubbing the grime and water specks off.
"What time is it?" Ichigo asked.
"It's uh…" Ginei said, looking back down at his wrist. "It's a quarter to 12'."
"Good."
"Why's that?"
"Everyone should be asleep by now." Ichigo said, setting his near empty soda can on the balcony porch table. "It's a good time."
"And…" Ginei said, motioning for him to continue. "…?"
Ichigo looked back at him and slightly smirked. "Training time."
"Wait, what?" Ginei said, bewildered as he saw Ichigo about to hop the balcony railing. "Hey, wait!"
"What?" Ichigo said, looking up, still holding onto the lower portion of the balcony rails. "Need something?"
"Need something?!" Ginei whispered furiously. "I need to know what you mean by 'training.' And don't you dare say 'I'd rather not say.'"
Ichigo sighed. "Ever since I came here, I haven't been allowed to use my Soul Reaper powers Gin."
Ginei nodded. "So, your point is?"
"At this rate," Ichigo said. "I'm gonna lose my proficiency as a Soul Reaper. I don't want a day to come when I can't use my powers at all."
Ginei glanced over his shoulder and looked around his immediate area. No one was in sight.
"How long have you been doing this?" he asked.
"Since day one." Ichigo replied. "I can't let another monster beat me or my friends like that ever again."
Ginei was deep in thought, not saying a word. He then sighed reluctantly. "Look, if you get caught, I won't be able to do anything in my power to reverse what happened. That doesn't mean I won't try… But it's risky as hell…"
"I know it is Gin." Ichigo said. "But it's just something I gotta do… you'd do the same."
"Well… I guess…"
"And Gin." Ichigo added.
"Mm?"
"This stays between us." Ichigo said, "I don't want Tsukune or Moka to find out what I do every night."
"Ugh…" Ginei sighed. "Just don't get caught, alright?"
Ichigo chuckled. "I haven't been caught yet… besides, you're talking to me, right?"
Ginei rolled his eyes. That's the reason why…
"Come back before sunrise, okay?" Ginei said.
Ichigo jumped off the railing and landed on the ground quietly. He gave a mock salute, smirking, and ran off.
Ginei sighed as he shook his head. When he raised his head back up, Ichigo was long gone.
Ginei looked back up at the night sky and saw the full moon again. Rubbing his temples, he sat on the balcony chair.
I shouldn't get so worked up… Not tonight… Definitely not tonight…
Ginei slumped his head on the small table, sighing.
It had been one long day. He had argued with Daisuke and the two had fallout between them. Ginei continuously asked himself whether his actions with Mizore prior to not telling Daisuke were justifiable… Of course what he did was to keep Daisuke safe, both he and Mizore established that. And now, Ginei had literally booted Daisuke out of the Newspaper Club, erased all ties to the Club, and enlisted Daisuke into the ranks of the Public Safety Commission. And he kept on reminding himself that it was for the greater good. But was there really ever such a thing? If it was, then Raida…
No… Not again… Ginei thought to himself. I've got to stop thinking about it… it won't do me any good tonight…
Ginei wondered. "Should I have told him? How much danger he is in? Not just from Midou but from them… And that Arrancar from the other day as well… There are so many things I need to tell Daisuke… but when?"
"Can't sleep?"
Ginei felt like he heard phrase over a million times tonight.
Scowling, Ginei closed his eyes and said, "No."
"Ch, don't be such a dick about it." The voice said. It belonged to a female.
Ginei opened his eyes and saw Moka, white hair flowing and all, standing in the doorway. She looked irritated by Ginei's response.
"Shoot, sorry." Ginei said. "Didn't know you were…"
Moka folded her arms and gave a condescending look to Ginei. She then pushed herself out of the doorway and pulled up a chair and sat next to him. She saw the empty soda can on the table and gave a glance at Ginei.
"You didn't save any for me?" she asked, in mock sorrow.
"Well, I didn't know you were gonna stay up this late…" Ginei replied. "Tsukune's knocked out on the couch I heard."
Moka nodded, picking up the empty can, shaking it in her hand, as if she was trying to see if there were any leftover drops inside of the empty, hollow aluminum shell but to no avail. She let out a sad sigh and let the can go, setting it down softly on the table.
"Are you really that desperate for a swig of soda?" Ginei asked, looking up from his hands.
Moka glared at him coldly. "It's not my fault that the other Moka eats so healthily. I've wanted to drink soda for a long time… But being locked away because of that rosary… ugh."
"How is it?" Ginei asked. "Being locked up because of that?... If you don't mind me asking."
Moka sighed, brushing her silver hair out of her face. "It isn't comfortable, I'll tell you that much… The other Moka… She's too weak… I can usually communicate with her through telepathy, thanks to the rosary, but she rarely listens on day to day basis… Only on occasions when there is a crisis or something does she listen to me… Sigh."
Ginei raised an eyebrow. "Crisis? What do you mean?"
"Vampires live a very harsh life, Gin." Moka said, playing with a lock of her hair. "Any S-Class monster would tell you the same…"
"That doesn't answer my question."
Moka rolled her eyes. "Life or death situations. Simple as that. Even S-Class monsters got things to worry about as well…"
Ginei thought for a moment. "Does this have anything to with that time you and Tsukune went swimming?"
"Yeah… it kinda does…" Moka said, "It was the other me by the way… and I didn't need to do a thing, thanks to Tsukune."
"You know, you guys haven't told me what exactly happened at that Club."
Moka leaned back into her chair. "Story for another time I suppose… Ask Tsukune yourself."
"Oh come on…"
"Tsukune is a talkative type. He'll fill you in with the details if need be... Besides, it was he who saved my ass."
"Wait, what?!" Ginei exclaimed.
Moka nonchalantly threw the empty soda can into the waste basket near the balcony rails. She looked at Ginei playfully. Ginei sighed.
I guess I might as well ask Tsukune later... A mere human, saving a vampire... Huh...
"You still have that?" Moka asked, sort of surprising Ginei.
"Huh?" Ginei asked. He then looked at his hands and saw that he was fumbling around with his Silver wolf pendant unbeknownst to himself. It had become a unnoticed habit of his to himself.
"Oh... You still remember this?" Ginei asked.
Moka nodded, a small smile forming on her face. Ginei could tell that the memories came back to her as it did to him.
"I remember that day clear as day." Moka said. "It was that day when you came because of that one mission with your friend... Raida was it?"
Ginei's face slightly fell and Moka took notice.
"Wait... How is Raida doing?"
Ginei sighed and looked at her. "He's dead."
"Oh," Moka gasped. "Gin, I'm sorry-"
"Don't be." Ginei said, shaking his head. "Besides, it was my fault that he's dead..."
Moka looked down, sort of sorry for bringing up this line of conversation. "How did... How did Inazuma die?"
Ginei shut his eyes. "I'd rather not talk about it."
Moka sighed. "Sorry."
Ginei scowled. "Damn it Moka, it isn't your fault. Quit saying sorry. Now you're making me feel bad."
Moka sighed and laughed. She softly punched Ginei's arm. "Well... I'm glad you still hold onto that pendant I gave you." She too reached for her neck and reached for her own necklace.
Ginei lifted up a silver crucifix in his hand. "Looking for this?"
Moka sighed and grinned. She took back the Rosary and put it inside her hoodie pocket.
"You still aren't going to put it back on?" Ginei asked.
Moka smiled playfully. "I'm not done seeing the world with my own eyes yet... Not there IS much to see... But it'll suffice."
Ginei lifted an eyebrow. "You still remember that vow we made when I gave you that all those years ago?"
Moka sighed. "Yeah. I know... We wouldn't take off these necklaces until we absolutely had to... But you understand why I can't put it back on?"
Ginei shook his head, chuckling. "It's not a 'can't' more like a 'don't wanna'… isn't it?"
Moka shrugged. "Same difference…"
"Unlike you," Ginei said. "I need to keep mine on…"
Moka's face looked surprised for a moment. After recomposing her face, Moka looked away.
"And I'm sure you understand why, right?" Ginei asked.
Moka nodded silently, looking at the moon.
"It's not as much about sentimentality as it is abo-"
"I get it." Moka said abruptly, cutting Ginei off. "I know what you mean."
Ginei sighed as he kicked his legs up and put them on the balcony rails. He glanced at the moon and then back at Moka. The two didn't talk for a moment.
"Some conversation we're having…" Ginei said amidst the silence.
"Tell me about it…" Moka said, nodding her head. Then she turned to look at Ginei. "On second thought, don't."
Ginei grinned.
Moka grinned along with him. She looked around the balcony and back towards the dormitory.
"Say, where's Ichigo?" She asked.
Ginei faked his surprise. "Isn't he inside the dorm?"
Moka shook her head. "I thought I saw him come out here before me a while ago…"
Ginei shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. "Beats me… I didn't see him." He lied.
Moka sighed. "Oh well… He may have just simply gone outside to take a walk I guess…" She muttered to herself.
Ginei then stood up. He started his way towards the sliding glass door. "Y'know what? I'm going to get some drinks right now, care for anything?"
Moka stood up after him. "No, let me go get it."
"But as the host I should serve the guests-"
"Oh it's fine." Moka said, waving her hand. "Just tell me where you keep your drinks. I'll be back in a second."
Ginei sighed as he made his way back to his chair. "It's in cabinet across from the refrigerator in the kitchen… which is a right down the hallway from the living room… You'll find it easily."
"Got it." Moka said nodding. "What should I get?"
Ginei shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno… Soda?"
Moka smirked. "Good choice."
Ginei chuckled to himself as Moka made her way into the dorm through the glass doors. As the door shut close, he leaned back in his chair and thought for a moment. He scrambled through his memory and started to reminisce about the first time he actually met Moka all those years ago. It was to be a very simple mission: Deliver the package to the Akashiya Family and DO NOT open the package. Of course, with Ginei in it, it was never simple. Raida was still alive during that time and was very annoyed with Ginei and his knack of getting into trouble.
Until Ginei met Moka.
Ginei had been running around the Akashiya Manor carelessly and wounded up interrupting Moka while she was sparring with her siblings. Ginei, who felt a little bit more arrogant than he was now, challenged them all to a fight. And that's when she stepped in.
The silver-haired, red-eyed monster.
Akashiya Moka.
And she beat the living crap out of him.
Ginei rubbed his chest, remembering the crushing blow she had delivered.
Anyway, before Moka could finish him off, her associates and Raida had to intervene. They told her that Ginei was actually a member of Raida's team and he was here on a mission. She forgave Ginei soon after the altercation.
Of course, Ginei couldn't say anything back. He was knocked out cold and would still be for the next five days. During that time, Raida had left Ginei in the capable hands of the Akashiya Family and left for another mission somewhere else.
With the mission incomplete, Ginei had to recover fast and conclude it before Raida came back to pick him up. Every day from the day he opened his eyes, he forced himself to recover and recuperate, pushing himself further each day. Moka, of course, saw all of this and took a slight liking into the boy.
And on the last day, the day Raida was to come back and retrieve Ginei, Ginei was finalizing his mission. He had opened the package and delivered the artifact to the Akashiya family. Or to Moka, to be more specific. The package was, in fact, intended for her in the first place.
But that wasn't the end. The Akashiya, actually Moka herself, had something to give to Ginei as well.
And he was still wearing it around his neck to this day.
Ginei yawned, seeing as that Moka had not returned yet. He closed his eyes, the long day finally getting to him.
I'll just get a three minute nap… just a quick one…

"Ginei! Hey man! Wake up!"
Ginei felt someone shaking his shoulder continuously. Closing his eyes even tighter, he tried to push away whoever and whatever was pushing him.
"Go away…" He said. "Can a guy catch some Z's?"
"C'mon man." The voice said again. "Don't be like that. Wake up!"
Ginei, scowling, rubbed his eyes and opened them to whoever was talking to him.
It was Tsukune.
"What the hell is it man?" Ginei asked, rubbing his sore neck. "What's wrong?"
"They're gone…" Tsukune said, eyes wide. "They're both gone…"
"Huh?" Ginei said, thinking that he had heard wrong. "Who's gone?"
"Ichigo and Moka." Tsukune said, voice urgent. "I can't find them anywhere."
Moka?! She's gone? Where could she have possibly-
"And I also found this." Tsukune said.
Ginei turned and saw what Tsukune had meant.
It was Moka's rosary.
