Chapter 24
All Amy could do was stare at the blue hedgehog standing outside the window. Her eyes were wide, while her mouth hung open in shock. Shadow, on the other hand, crossed his arms across his chest and raised an eyebrow.
"Faker... Care to explain what you are doing standing outside the window eavesdropping on us?" He asked, his red eyes following the other male's movements.
"I, uh..." Sonic trailed off, standing up from his crouched position. His olive orbs locked on Amy's eyes as a sad smile formed on his lips. "I was just leaving." As he said that, he got ready to dash off, but Amy's voice stopped him.
"Sonic... Wait. Please..." Amy bit her lip and felt Shadow's confused stare, but decided to ignore him for the moment. "I want to talk to you about something very important. Can you please come in?"
Sonic's eyes closed almost painfully upon hearing the words, but he turned to face her with a forced grin. "Alright, anything for you Ames!" He ran to the front door and after a few seconds, it opened to reveal Amy's warm smile.
"Come in," She started walking to the living room, knowing that he would follow her. Sonic closed the door and mimicked Amy's movements. They walked in the living room to be greeted by Shadow who had his arms crossed with a small frown on his face. "You two sit down. I will bring something to eat." Amy smiled at both of them before leaving the two males in an awkward silence. Shadow was glaring daggers at Sonic, while he avoided looking at the ebony hedgehog.
"What were you doing outside Rose's window at this time of night?" Shadow asked after a few seconds had passed, raising a questioning eyebrow.
"I can come here whenever I want, I don't need your permission." Sonic answered, feeling irritated with all of Shadow's questioning.
"Humph!" Shadow crossed his arms and turned his face the other way. One minute later, Amy walked in the room, carrying a tray. She set the tray down on the table and handed both of them a sandwich.
"Sorry, that's all I had." She smiled, sitting down on the long sofa with Shadow on one side of her and Sonic on the other, while taking a bite off of her own sandwich. "So... Sonic, did you want to talk to me that you came here?"
"Uh, yeah... But I forgot about what." The blue hedgehog lied, scratching the back of his head with another forced grin. He now found out the reason she was being so distant... Shadow swallowed the last bite of his sandwich and rolled his crimson eyes.
"Of course, you were too busy listening to our conversation to remember why you really came." He commented, getting a small glare from Amy.
"Yeah, and you were too busy shoving your tongue down my girlfriend's mouth!" Sonic blurted out angrily, his hands tightening around the sandwich he was holding. Amy gasped while Shadow growled. "I heard everything Ames. From the time he entered your house to the time you both saw me outside the window." Sonic put the sandwich down, then looked at Amy with sadness in his olive green orbs. "I feel used Ames, please explain everything to me before I go crazy."
"Sonic..." Amy started, biting her lip. "It's not like that... I-I..." She trailed off with a sigh. Taking a deep breath, she started telling him about the time she ran into him when he was eating chili dogs and didn't hug him. Shadow uncrossed his arms and looked the other way, looking annoyed, while Sonic listened with his ears perked up and his mouth in a straight line. "I was so fed up with you always turning away from me that I came up with a plan."
"What plan?" Sonic asked curiously, narrowing his eyes.
Amy sighed but continued. "To stop chasing you. I thought that if I pretended to not like you anymore, you would confess your love for me. And then Shadow came..."
Shadow looked at Amy, completely ignoring Sonic's glares. Amy felt his stare and turned to look at the black and red hedgehog.
"I found it boring to just sit around and wait for you to come and tell me that you like me, so I decided to find out more about Shadow. Well, I stalked him like I once did to you and got him to become my friend after some time."
"Then what?" Sonic asked impatiently, flicking his eyes to the pink hedgehog.
"Then I started falling for him, but I didn't really know it. I was really happy when you told me that you liked me but I also felt kind of sad." Amy scanned Sonic's face for any emotion, but found none. The blue hedgehog's jaw tensed slightly, while his fists tightened, causing his knuckles to turn white. He wasn't aware of it though, he was too busy trying to control his sadness. She didn't love him anymore... "Sonic... Are you ok?" Her sweet voice filled his mind and he broke from his thoughts, nodding at her slowly.
"I'm fine... Go on." Sonic answered, loosening his fists.
"I wanted to tell you sooner but I just couldn't bring myself to break up with you. I... I love you Sonic..." Just as he was about to look down, he glanced up at her with wide eyes. Shadow stopped staring at the blue hedgehog, turning his confused red eyes to her. Amy's head hung low. "... But I love Shadow more. I'm very sorry Sonic. I didn't use you, I... I just hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me." She looked down after she said that, and she could feel water forming in her eyes.
"Hey," Sonic said softly as he lifted up her chin, making her look in his eyes. Amy stared wide-eyed, while Shadow simply rolled his eyes and sighed. He knew that it wasn't the best idea to punch the blue hedgehog now. "I don't want to see you cry. I'm very happy that you didn't use me and had no intention of hurting me in any way. I-I just want you to be happy. So if Shadow makes you feel like that... Go with him."
"B-but Sonic-" Amy started, her lips trembling as a few tears left her eyes. Smiling at her sadly, Sonic stroked his thumb against her cheek, wiping away the tears that trailed down.
"Hey, no tears. I... I love you and I always will. But like I said, if you're happy with Shadow, then I have no problem with that. Shadow makes you happy, and if you're happy, then I am too." Sonic nodded as he said that, looking away from her widened eyes to face Shadow. "I swear to God! If you hurt her or if you do anything wrong, I will gladly beat you up!"
"Humph! You don't scare me faker! It's you that will be beat up beyond recognition!" Shadow scoffed, glaring at the blue hedgehog, although something was different about his glare. It wasn't one of hatred, Sonic realized.
"Anyway," Sonic stood up and forced a grin at the pink female. "I won't be wasting your time! Gotta go!" Just as he was about to dash off, Amy grabbed his wrist, surprising him. She stood up and looked into his olive orbs with her gaze turning kind of blurry. All of a sudden, she threw her arms around him and hugged him as tight as she could.
"Thank you Sonic, and I-I'm very sorry for everything." Amy blurted out as tears flowed down her muzzle.
"Don't worry Ames, I only want you to be happy." Sonic assured her, not wanting to admit that losing her was like not being able to run anymore. Pulling away from her gently, he gave her one of his trademark smiles before he ran off.
"As soon as faker arrived, you forgot all about me." A deep voice said from behind, causing Amy to turn around and face Shadow. She sat down next to him, looking away from him shyly.
"I didn't forget about you, I just... I feel so bad for Sonic." The pink hedgehog looked down, feeling miserable.
"It's supposed to be this way. If you mention the faker one more time, I will think that you still love him, which means that I will make myself disappear and leave you to go back to him." Shadow said, causing her to gasp and immediately look up at him. She rolled her eyes playfully as soon as she saw his smirk.
"Whatever, um," Amy started as she wrapped her shaking hands around his neck, watching him raise an eyebrow at her before he looked at her arms.
"Why are you shaking-?" Before he could finish the sentence, she pressed her lips against his in a kiss, surprising him. The surprise was soon gone as he responded to the kiss by wrapping his arms around her waist and tilting his head to the side.

"What?!" Tails exclaimed, nearly choking on the water that he was drinking. Sonic sighed, taking a seat on the sofa with his head hung low.
"You heard me Tails, Amy is no longer mine. I guess I was very slow in telling her my feelings because she has fallen in love with Shadow." The blue hedgehog admitted, ignoring Tails' pitiful stares.
"I'm sorry Sonic, in a way; it's all really my fault." Tails took a seat next to him, causing Sonic to glance up at him with confusion in his eyes.
"It's not your fault Tails-" He began only to get cut off.
"No Sonic, it is. If I didn't force you to admit that you like Amy, none of this would've happened." Tails looked down, feeling guilty.
Sonic rolled his eyes. "You shouldn't blame yourself buddy. I'm glad that you helped make me realize my feelings. Even if Amy doesn't love me anymore... I still love her. Like I told her, I just want her to be happy." Tails smiled sadly and put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Enough of this! I won't sit around for the rest of my life and mope around! I have better things to do! Like running!" Sonic blurted out all of a sudden, surprising the fox. He stood up and grinned at Tails, before he sprinted off.
"I know you're sad Sonic, no matter how much you try to hide it." Tails murmured to himself, feeling bad for his best friend. "I just don't understand why Amy would do something like that. Since when did Shadow get so close to her?" Sighing, he stood up to go back to the basement to finish the rest of invention.

"I still can't believe this is happening! It all seems like a dream!" Amy exclaimed, smiling at the ebony hedgehog. He simply smirked.
"Why is it so hard to believe?" Shadow asked, his smirk turning into a smile.
"Because! I would never believe it if someone told me that me and you would end up going together." The pink hedgehog explained, a grin forming on her lips after that. "I took off your mask Shadow!"
"What do you mean, 'took off your mask'?" The black and red hedgehog raised a questioning eyebrow.
"Silly Shadow! You used to be so intimidating and careless about everything, but now you are not! I can actually see what you're feeling, because you don't hide your emotions anymore." Amy answered, grabbing his hand in her smaller one.
Shadow couldn't help but chuckle. "You're right, I have changed. But the only person who gets to see this side of me is... You."
"No one can ever break us apart, right?" Amy asked with a smile, her smile widening once Shadow held up their hands and kissed her Knuckles gently.
"No one," he smirked at her, watching her muzzle turn red.
"I love you Shadow..." Amy said sweetly, her heart beating faster in her chest.
"I... Love you too Rose." Shadow smiled softly, vowing to himself to protect her for the rest of his life. "You give me a reason to live Amy." He admitted, kissing her forehead tenderly. Amy looked up with a smile.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked curiously, catching the different meaning of his words.
"I... I tried committing suicide." He admitted with a sigh, hearing the pink hedgehog gasp.
"What?!" She turned to face him fully with wide eyes, her jaw dropping open as she breathed heavily. "Why?!"
Shadow shrugged. "I had no reason to live. I had lost my dearest friend... Maria. No one liked me, everyone was afraid of me. People still are scared... I just didn't want to live anymore." Shadow paused to look at her, but she was still frozen in the same pose. "Didn't really work out as you can see I'm sitting in front of you alive."
"Shadow..." Amy trailed off with a gasp. "Don't ever do such a crazy thing again! Why would you do something like that?! Just because you didn't have any friends and had no reason to live didn't mean you had to go and commit suicide!" She shouted, water forming in her eyes at just the thought of that.
"Rose, relax. I'm not going to do something like that, I-" He was cut off as she threw herself at him and sobbed loudly. He couldn't help but roll his red orbs. "Seriously, I won't do such a thing again. I am immortal and the Ultimate Lifeform, it won't work for me. I just don't die." He comforted her as he ran a hand through her quills gently.
"Good." She mumbled and pulled away to give him a frown. "That was very stupid of you."
"I know, I know. Hey! Let's watch a movie, do you agree?" Shadow tried changing the subject, sighing in relief once she grinned at him and nodded.
"Yeah!" Amy exclaimed as she bounced out of the room, leaving Shadow to shake his head in amusement.
Bet you guys weren't expecting that! You all probably thought that Sonic wouldn't let Amy go easily but he did. Well, only BlackPetals23 had an idea of what was gonna happen without really knowing. Does it make sense? Lol. Anyway, reviews are very much appreciated. Please review! Thanks! :)
