It hurt worse than the bruises she'd got in Gollum's cave. The only thing holding her back was her hair, and the orc had a very good grip. She knew if she didn't get out now then she wouldn't get out at all, and Azog likely wouldn't let her off easy for what she did. Images of what could happen flashed though her mind, and with all the strength she had left she pushed herself forward. She collapsed onto the ground, and the last thing she remembered before losing consciousness was an eagle grabbing her.

The halfling and Thorin herself had recovered. The company celebrated and their tension was resolved. Thorin herself was the happiest she'd been in a very long time.

That was the night before. Now, everyone had woken up. She had discussed with Bofur the night before her plan to court the hobbit and woo her properly. That morning she would have started with asking Bilbo if she accepted, and then braided her hair to signify her as Thorin's intended.

But she couldn't bring herself to ask. Bilbo stood before her, hair as short as that of a human man's. She was walking around as though it was the most normal thing in the world; her beautiful hair was practically gone!

"Bilbo!" Thorin said. "What happened to your hair?"

"I cut it," she responded. She walked over to where Bombur was making breakfast. "How much longer until this is done?"

Bombur shrugged and then went back to work.

"But why, Bilbo?"

"It was getting in the way."

"But it was beautiful!"

Bilbo chuckled. "And a pain in the ass." She turned away from Thorin. "Now if you'll excuse me, please let me pass. I want to get some things ready before we climb down this rock."

Thorin frowned. "Bilbo, you just cut your hair!"'

She raised an eyebrow. "Really, what has you so worked up about it? It's just hair."

"Well where else am I supposed to put my courting braids? They only look correct on long hair."

Two hours later, Thorin had her wish. Bilbo hadn't been able to shave her excess foot hair in the last few months.

"I didn't realize the value of being able to grow such wonderful hair on your feet." Thorin gently stroked her hands over Bilbo's soft foot hair.

Bilbo rolled her eyes. "Oh, just get this over with. The moment my hair grows back you are taking these out."
