I groaned when I looked at the calendar. It was my death day. Which means it's been a year since I died although I can't really complain since I kind of enjoy being a ghost. Either way I wasn't really looking forward to this. I went into the kitchen and found Frostbite there. "Hey dad" I greeted. "Good morning Spirit and happy death day" I smiled a little. He presented a card to me and said he had to leave to check on something.
The card was dark purple and had the words 'Happy death day' on it but the bottom said that it was from Ember not from my god father. Shrugging since I didn't really care if he got me a present, since he remembered and that's good enough for me, I opened the card. "Come to my place" it read in cursive handwriting. "Guess she remembered and just wanted to hang out" I told myself.
No way would she plan a surprise party for me since one, she told me herself she promised not to plan one and two only Frostbite, Vlad and her knew it was my death day. Speaking of Vlad I wonder how he's settled into the tribe. Frostbite finally started warming up to him, mostly when Vlad had helped when the science lab exploded again and he helped rescue the scientists and some very important equipment and blueprints.
Tucking the card into my cloak, I floated out of the house and flew over to my friend's lair. Spotting the door with the flaming guitar, I went in without knocking. "Hey Em" she had gotten used to me coming in without knocking since I visited her more now instead of going to the human realm. "Hey dork weed. Happy death day" I smiled and joined her on the couch.
"So the death day girl got any plans for today?" I shrugged. "I don't know. I never celebrated my birthday with anything big and my 'friends' never really remember or do anything for me" she patted me on the shoulder and nodded in understanding. "C'mon let's go to the café. You get an ecto chocolate cake half off on your death day" she tempted. "Hmm… tempting" I said jokingly and we laughed and left her lair. We talked about random things while floating to the café and by the time we were there we were laughing pretty hard. But I managed to stop my laughter enough to realize that the café was deadly silent. Pun intended.
It was weird though. This was one of the most popular ghost hang out places so why is it so quiet? I mentally face palmed, how obvious could she get. "You promised you weren't going to plan a surprise party" she smiled at me mischievously. "And you're not getting one" still suspicious… I slowly opened the door to the café and found the regular things I usually saw. The same old workers cleaning the tables and the Lunch lady ghost screaming at the stove for not working properly.
Still looking at Ember suspiciously we sat at our regular booth and ordered drinks. She got an ecto latte while I just got a hot ecto chocolate. After we were finished with at the café we went back to her house to hang out for a while till' I had to go back home. We mostly just spent the rest of the afternoon talking and doing some singing.
"I'm gonna go home" I said getting up from the couch. "Can I come with? Frostbite said that he had some guitar strings for my guitar he could give me" I shrugged, not thinking much of it, and flew out the door with Ember trailing a little behind me. "I think my dad should be in the house now" I opened the door to my house to see all the lights out. "Surprise!" a group of voices shouted as Ember turned on the lights.
"Ember!" I shouted at her annoyed that she planned a party for me when I told her not to. She raised her hands in surrender and pointed behind me. "I planned it princess" I stared at Vlad in shock. I was a little shocked at the nickname but mostly shocked that he planned a party for me. "I may have been an evil villain, bent on ruling the world but I do have a heart" he smiled kindly at me and I immediately flew over to him and hugged his stomach muttering thank you over and over again. He ruffled my hair and the party started.
All the friends I had made in the zone were here. Johnny, Kitty, Ember, Klemper, Vlad, my god father, Wulf (whom I met three days ago but made fast friends with him), Dora (who I met while going to her kingdom to give her something from Frostbite) and Skulker. The party was pretty fun actually but I've never had a birthday party since I was in kindergarten so I wouldn't really know.
Either way it was fun, until I started feeling agonizing pain. I started screaming and kneeled onto the floor. Frostbite and Vlad were at my side in an instant. "What's happening?" I managed to slightly say while hissing from the pain. All the others were looking at me sympathetically and I knew this had to be some ghost thing. "Your body is… maturing in a way" I gave my dad a look and just shook my head. Whatever it was I did not want to know.
I suddenly started vomiting. The most disgusting thing was that the vomit was red. Frostbite silently shooed everyone out while Vlad patted my back as I spilled my contents. Once that was over, I felt tired. I wiped my mouth clean with my sleeve, not caring if it was disgusting or not, and Vlad laid my head on his lap. "Dad, I'm tired" I yawned right after I finished the last word and my dad picked me up from Vlad's lap and stroked my hair. "I know" Vlad silently exited the scene and Frostbite carried me to my room and laid me on the bed.
I fell asleep almost instantly.
