The Unknown Variable

I own nothing.

I am currently furious at Disney….they are messing up Marvel…putting it in Phineas and Ferb…they made Iron Man look like an Idiot…and totally messed him up….can I punch them? Please? Please? Please?

NO?! *pout*

In the in-between

Silver mist swirled around me, and I could make out a few figures in the distance.

I felt…strange…I couldn't explain it…I left like something was missing…like I was forgetting something.

The answers were all right there in front of me, but I couldn't recall it. I was missing something…I was missing a part of myself.

I knew that I was important…and I knew that I should remember…but I just couldn't.

But there were a few things I could remember…however they paled in comparison to thing things I knew I should know….

"It didn't work…why didn't it work?"

I spun around, trying to locate the cold but soft voice. I knew that voice…it belonged to someone I knew…

"I do not know,"

The second voice was soft and wise, but raspy, it was definitely female.

"Should she not have Awaken already sister?" The third voice sounded like wind blowing through trees, and I swore I had heard it before.

"She should be Awake by now! What is wrong?"

My eyes widened as I finally placed the voice, it was Mortem…my bonded…

Confusion welled up inside me…I knew I wasn't human, and I knew this was not the first time…but something was…blocking…the rest of the knowledge in my mind.

"Mortem?" I called out, and the mist stilled for a moment, before shifting aside to reveal the three figures that I instantly recognized.

Mortem, my Bonded, his twin Vitam, and Infinitas, my Sisters; all three stared at me in confusion and I wanted to yell in frustration.

Something was blocking me…something was stopping me…

"Aequivalere!" Mortem exclaimed quietly as he slowly approached me.

"Is that my name?" I asked, I couldn't remember…there were giant gaps in my memory…I couldn't even remember my most resent life.

Mortem stopped, only right in front of me as he became concerned. "You don't remember?"

I shook my head as my Sisters approached, I knew of them, I could Remember the Immortals, I just couldn't remember my Place, who I was. I was supposed to be, who I had been.

"I remember you all, and I remember the rest of Us, but I can't recall…anything…that has to do with…me…" I stated sadly as Mortem wrapped his arms around me and brought me into a hug.

"She must have done this." Vitam hissed in anger, his white hair now holding a touch of silver. A half inch stripe of silver hair now framed the right side of her head.

Mortem's hair also now held a half inch stripe of silver, framing the left side of his head.

My own silver hair fell down to my elbows as I shook my head, trying to clear my head and remember what I was supposed to.

"She couldn't have." Infinitas stated shaking her head. "She does not hold that much power, not in Mortem's Realm."

A dark crackle echoed through the mist and I spun around, someone else was here…and that person was the one responsible for my missing memories.

"You are right, Brother, Fati does not hold that power." The voice echoed around us, before a girl appeared right in front of us, an insane smile on her face. "But I do."

My eyes widened, she hadn't been seen in several Millennia, she had disappeared the same time I had Awoke the first time, so I only had the vague knowledge of the girl.

She was the third youngest, mine and Fati's Elder, but she was still younger than the rest…

"Chaos." Mortem hissed in surprise and anger.

"Ah, ah, ah big brother." She crackled, "I go by Insania now."

Chaos, or Insania as she wished to be called, was quite unstable.

She had two toned hair, it started out a dark silver color, but towards the ends of her hair it turned to a grey-blue color. Her hair was layered; the top layer was a spiky bob, while the bottom layer fell past her shoulders in layered waves.

She had one dark blue eye, and a light green one, her skin was very pale though not the grey-like tone that Mortem had. She was wearing a dark silver cloak with splashes of silver blue splatted randomly on the garment. She had dark blue leggings under a white pleaded skirt, and a black button down shirt splattered with purple. The whole thing was wrapped together with a thick grey belt that hung off her hips and black and silver boots.

She swayed as she walked forward, and my older siblings watched her approach with caution, but for some reason, I was not cautious of the older Immortal…I felt a connection with her, and for some reason, I knew something was up with her.

"Hello, baby sister dearest! I've waited years to meet you!" Insania exclaimed while clapping, before she threw her arms around me in a hug.

All of the sudden I felt her stiffen and she pushed me back, "You shall pay for what you have done you idiotic girl!" Insania hissed at me in anger. Gone was the happy, cheerful girl, and in her place was a very angry Immortal whose dark blue energy was swirling around her.

"Why are you working with Fati, Chaos?" Infinitas asked the girl as the three Immortals closed in around the young one who had been missing for a very long time.

"Working with…Hahahaha! I am Chaos! Insanity is my Realm, Fati has promised me free rein on the stupid humans, and to let me play games to my heart's content! I don't work with her…" All of the sudden she froze, and her expression softened before becoming confused.

"Mortem? Vitem? Infinitas? What are you doing here?" she looked around in confusion before her eyes widened and her expression became fearful.

"Where are we? I'm not where I'm supposed to be!" her breathing quickened and her eyes were extremely wide as they locked onto mine. "Aequivalere! You must go! It's not safe! She…she…"

Insania froze again before her face hardened and she shook her head, we all looked at her when she muttered, "Idiotic girl." Before turning back to us.

"I am so sorry, but I can't stick around. Have people to torment and insanity to bring. It was so nice seeing you all!" The unstable girl exclaimed before turning around.

"Oh!" she exclaimed looked back over at me, "It's not personal, Ler'e, it's just what I do!"

She turned around, and with a cheerful wave, she vanished.

"What was that about? Infinitas?" Vitam asked her sister.

I was extremely confused but, for some reason, when Insania hugged me, I had flashes of something, of different people, and different things…she had given me part of my memory back. But if she had been the one to take it in the first place…why would she do that?

Infinitas shook her head sadly before she replied gravely, her voice losing some of its dreamy quality, "Something has changed Chaos, and only something like that would cause her to change her name…which represents her Realm. I fear that she may not be the same as she once was."

"But…can't you See?" Mortem asked, his eyes widening, if she was not able to See, then things were much worse than they seemed.

Infinitas sighed before turning her attention towards me, "Something has blocked my Sight, I fear that I know longer can See as well as I once could."

All three of us gasped in surprise and horror. Infinitas was one of the most powerful Immortals, if something could block her Sight, in her own Realm…then something was definitely wrong; and if something had changed Chaos…then something was extremely wrong.

"She's my Other…" I muttered, causing all three of my siblings to turn towards me.

Everyone had another Immortal that was the opposite of their Realm. Mortem and Vitam were the perfect example. The end of life, and the start, though in truth, it was a never ending circle that the two kept.

If Chaos…Insania…was my Other…then what was my Realm? Who was I?

"Do you really remember nothing sister?" Vitam asked me brushing a loose strand of hair back into place.

I sighed and shook my head sadly, "Some things I can recall, but others…there are many things that are still lost to me."

It wasn't just memories that were lost to me…I felt incomplete, and my eyes widened as I realized why.

When I was Asleep in Mortal form, I had very limited access to my powers, and almost no access to my memories or true self. But when I Awoke…I was myself, as close as I could be, and I was extremely powerful.

However, now…now I was neither…I wasn't completely Awake, but I was no longer compete Mortal ether.

"I'm stuck…" I muttered causing my siblings to look at me in concern.

"What?" Mortem asked as I lifted my eyes to meet his.

"I'm stuck…I'm neither Awake or Slumbering…I'm stuck in the middle."

The other three turned to look at each other as I sighed, Fate really did hate me.

Suddenly, the mist around us shifted became lighter, and I felt…heavier, like I was sinking.

"Mortem!" I exclaimed, my form was slowly turning to mist and panic gripped my heart. What was happening to me?!

"Aequivalere!" Mortem exclaimed as he watched in horror as I slowly dissolved.

"Her mortal form has regenerated." Infinitas stated, trying to calm her panicking siblings down.

"Vitam! It's not time yet!" Mortem hissed at his twin.

She looked at her bother is surprise before exclaiming, "I'm not doing it, Brother!"

"She has been away for too long. Return her soul, Mortem, before any lasting damage is done." Infinitas stated as everything around me started to become fuzzy.

"As you wish, Infinitas." Mortem's face blurred into sight for just a moment before everything fell into darkness.

His voice was the last thing I heard,

"Don't worry love, I'm here."
