"How was the dance last night sweetheart?" Rowan asked as the family gathered at the table for Sunday dinner.
"It was amazing dad." Olivia smiled as she remembered how perfect the night ended.
"That is great Livia." Maya said genuinely happy for her daughter. "We have some news for you."
"News?" Olivia questioned, looking between her parents.
"Well.." Rowan started, taking a minute to get his words together. "After a few months of trying your mother is pregnant."
Olivia spit the water that she had almost swallowed out of her mouth on the table. "You're what?" She asked looking over at her mother in disbelief. "Mom, I thought you had just started trying? Umm..Wow, this is..wow."
"I know this is soon honey and we didn't expect it to happen this easily with me being in my mid-forties but it did and we are truly excited." She looked over to her husband and squeezed his hand. "We hope that you will be happy for us anyway."
"Mom..Of course I am happy. I am just a little surprised, that's all. I'm a little sad too, I don't know what else to say. You know I wanted to go to Standford that way I could be close by and see my little brother or sister as they grew up but clearly that isn't an option, so that makes me a little sad."
"Don't be sad Olivia, you will have plenty of opportunities to get to know them. It may not be on the weekly basis like you want but we could always Skype everyday." Maya reassured her. "It is important that you go away to school Olivia, you need to that experience."
"I know that Mom, but why Harvard?"
"Olivia it's always been Harvard, you know that. Everyone in your family has gone to Harvard and worked damn hard to get there. You should be proud of that tradition and want to continue that it. Should also want to encourage your children to continue that tradition as well. I know it will be tough to be away from everyone and everything that you have known your whole life but isn't Abby going there next fall as well?"
"Yes, mom she is, which I guess won't make it be too bad. I just.." Olivia trailed off picking at her food.
"It's him, isn't?" Rowan asked.
"What?" She asked looking up at her father, knowing exactly what he meant.
"You are worried about him, Fitz, aren't you?" Rowan asked already knowing the answer to his question. "You don't think he will choose a school close to Harvard and you don't know how you two will make it, am I right?"
"Yes." Olivia said quietly, deciding to tell the truth, not that they didn't already know.
"Oh honey, that boy will go where ever you go."
"How do you know that for sure though mom?"
"She knows that because we can see it in his eyes sweetheart, he is completely head over heels for you." Rowan answered for Maya.
"I know that dad but why should he have to change his decision because of me and my family traditions?"
"Because that is what you do for love and as simple as that sounds, that is why. Do you think I wanted to leave the east coast and come here after college? No, I did not but this is where your mother wanted to raise a family, she wanted to be near her family and because I love her I came and have never looked back. We make sacrifices for the ones we love and there will come a time when he may need you to make a sacrifice for him but at this young stage in your lives and relationship I think this will be a good test for the both of you. Everything will work, just have a little faith ok?"
Olivia smile and nodded, maybe her father was right, everything would work out how it was supposed to and she just had to trust that. They continued their dinner and discussed all the possible baby names laughing and enjoying each others company. Olivia had missed these types dinners with her parents where there was no pressure and they just lived in the moment. They finished and she helped clean up before heading to bed.
Olivia and Fitz spent the week enjoying each others company and spending as much time with each other as they possibly could. His father returned to town midweek and tried to rebuild his relationship with Fitz but he wanted nothing to do with his father. Olivia convinced Fitz to give him another chance and take things slow; after further prodding the three of them had dinner Thursday night. The dinner went smoother than they both thought it would with Big Gerry actually making them laugh while keeping the conversation light. He didn't pressure Fitz about about his choice of school and weighed in on the discussion of how everything would play out the next morning, which local news stations would be there, what Fitz would wear, what time it would be and who would bring the college ball cap to the gym where the press conference would be held.
Friday had finally arrived and Fitz was pacing the gym as the camera crews setup for the conference. Even though he wasn't the only star player at the school he was definitely the one with the highest profile and the most media attention, which is why he was doing a conference by himself and there would be a separate conference for the other Seniors later on that week where everyone from across all the other sports would sign to whatever school they choose. He heard the door to the gym open and he smiled when he looked across the gym to see that it was Olivia. He had asked her to come see him before she left for her swim meet so that he could tell her first where he decided to attend in the fall.
"You okay babe?" She asked as she wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him close to her and laying her head on his chest.
"Now that you are here I am." He kissed the top of her head and held on to her for a few more seconds before letting her go and stepping back. "How long do you have?"
"Not long, what's up babe?" She asked as he pulled her to sit down next to him on the bleachers.
"Well..I wanted you to be the first to know what school I chose." He said quietly and she smiled.
"Really? Like no one else knows yet?" She whispered.
"Livvie, why are you whispering?" He asked in a whisper of his own.
"Because.." She started, "Actually I have no idea." She laughed.
"You are so silly Livvie." He smiled at how funny she thought her whispering was, "I love you."
She stopped laughing when she saw his face turn serious and he started to speak again, "And because I love you and your love makes me…" He paused trying to compose himself. "I said I wasn't going to get emotional.."
"Fitz.." She reached out and grabbed his hand rubbing it gently with her thumb, trying to urge him to continue.
"..your love makes me a better person and I can't even begin to imagine being on the opposite coast from you. I wouldn't be able to focus, I wouldn't have any motivation to succeed and I sure as hell would not be happy without you in my life on a daily basis if need be. Bottom line, I need you Olivia and that is why I have decided to go to UCONN next year." She started to say something and he held up his finger for her to let him finish. "I know it is a hour and some change away from Harvard but I hope that is close enough for you..they were the only team on the east coast that I felt like I could win a NCAA championship with and-"
He was cut off mid sentence by her lips on his, when their lips touched it felt like everything around them disappeared, there were no reporters, no camera crews, no one but them. He matched her intensity and kissed her until they literally could not breathe. She pressed her forehead to his as they breathed each other in. "Fitz, UCONN is perfect, I don't care that it is a hour away. I can't believe this is happening..we are going to be on the same coast and..it is going to be great." She said smiling brightly.
"We are going to be on the same coast and it is going to be great." He repeated smiling with her.
Over the next few weeks Olivia and Fitz continued to be inseparable. They often talked about their schools, dorms versus getting a apartment near campus and everything else they could think of. Olivia and her mother had become increasingly close since she switched to the day shift at work. That change made Olivia want to spend more time at home and it made Fitz come over a lot more often then he had in the beginning of their relationship and actually brought he and Eli closer. Life and their relationship was growing and flourishing. Before they knew it it was Thanksgiving.
Olivia woke up early on Thanksgiving morning and went downstairs to help her mother with the turkey and with breakfast, it was a tradition of theirs. They would start breakfast and her father would put it on the news or Sports Center until the the parade would start.
"Mom is Aunt Deborah coming by this year?" Her Aunt Deborah was the only sibling that her mother had and the only family that she had left since her grandfather passed away last year. Her Aunt Deborah was hilarious and the complete opposite of her mother. She was carefree and always seemed to be on an adventure, her mother always said that was because she had never grown up.
"Not this year Livia, she had to go out of town but she plans to be here for Christmas." Maya said and she cut up potatoes for breakfast.
"Oh ok, so it is just going to be us this year?"
"Not exactly, Abby and her parents will be joining us and don't be upset but Marks mother asked if they could join us again this year since they couldn't get back to New York to celebrate with her family."
"You said no didn't you?" Olivia prayed she said no.
"Why would I say no Olivia? Just because you and her son are no longer together doesn't mean that we are no longer friends. They will be over here shortly after breakfast and I don't want there to be any problems, you got that?" Her mother said in a stern voice.
"Yes, ma'am." Olivia said through gritted teeth. "I am going to go over to Fitz' after breakfast before they get here. Did you remember to tell them about the sweaters?"
"Yes I reminded them and that's fine, why don't you invite him over for dinner too?"
"Yeah, I don't think so. Plus he has plans with his father and cousin."
"It was just a suggestion." Maya shrugged, and they went back to cooking.
Breakfast had taken longer that she originally planned and Olivia had rushed to get out of the house to avoid Mark and his family before she left but as she walked down the stairs she heard the doorbell ring and groaned in annoyance. "Ugh, why me?" She whined to herself. She heard his mothers voice, then his then his little sisters and she couldn't wait to get out of there.
"Hello, Olivia."
"Hello Ms. Antoni, it's nice to see you again." Olivia said as nicely as she could, behind a fake smile giving her a hug. "Hey Issy, I've missed you pretty lady." She said giving Marks sister Isabella a hug. She held her hand out to Mark before saying, "Mark."
He grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. "I missed you too Olivia." He whispered into her ear.
Olivia glared at him through a clenched smile as she moved out of his embrace. "Well, it was nice seeing you all, I was actually on my way out.."
"Olivia don't be rude. Show Mark and Issy to the den and hang out for a bit before you run off." Rowan directed.
"But dad.." Olivia whined.
"Olivia." He warned.
"Yes Sir." She huffed. "This way." She waved at Mark and Issy to follow her down the hall.
She showed them to the den and turned the TV on to ABC. She plopped down on the couch and groaned, irritated that she had to babysit them.
"I'm sorry about this." Mark said as he sat next to her. "I told my mom that this was a bad idea but she insisted, then your mom said yes.. I'm sorry I know you don't want to be bothered with us."
"It's ok Mark, I know it's not your fault." She said offering him a half smile.
"Do you at least like my sweater?" He said looking down at the one of the most hideous Thanksgiving sweaters he had ever worn.
"It's not bad actually." She laughed. "Better than the one you wore last year."
"I didn't wear on last year." He looked after he confused.
"Exactly." She said laughing. "And when are you going to cut that hair?" She asked as she tugged at some of his shoulder length hair.
"You still have the most beautiful laugh.." Mark said not answering her question.
"Mark.." She said as she shifted on the couch.
"I'm sorry..But I love the way your eyes light up when you find something extremely funny adding the sexiest smile.." He said as he continued to stare at her. "I just wanted you to know that.."
Olivia blushed, "Thanks, you know-"
"Yes I know that you have a boyfriend, I just hope he knows what he has in you and doesn't screw it up like I did."
"He knows, don't worry about him. Anyway, how have you been?" Olivia asked changing the subject.
"I've been good, I can't complain." He stopped when her phone started buzzing.
"Hello?" She answered without looking at the caller ID.
"Hi beautiful, Happy Thanksgiving."
Olivia's lips curved into a smile. "Hi babe, Happy Thanksgiving to you too."
"I miss you, I thought you were on your way?"
"I was but my dad made me-"
"Issy put it back on the news, no one wants to watch Hannah Montana reruns!" Mark yelled at his little sister.
"Who was that Livvie?" Fitz asked.
"That's what I was trying to tell you.. my mom invited Marks family over for dinner and they got here right as I was leaving-"
"I didn't realize you had company, I'll let you go."
She could hear the irritation in his voice and she hated that she wasn't with him right in that moment. "Babe.. don't worry about it. I can talk."
"That would be rude Olivia, I'll talk to you later." He said as he hung up.
She sighed and looked at her phone.
"Seems like the same jerk I met at the lounge a month ago." Mark whispered, shaking his head before getting up and heading towards the kitchen.
Olivia rolled her eyes and glanced at the clock waiting for 30 mins to pass so that she could leave.
"Jake get dressed." Fitz said standing up from his seat on the couch.
"What, why? Today is our chill day, your dad had a chef come in so that you wouldn't have to cook this year, so what is the problem?"
"We are going over to Liv's." Jake shook his head 'no' and laid back down. "Abby will be there." Fitz added.
Jake hopped up, "Why didn't you lead with that? Come on, let's hurry."
Fitz laughed as Jake ran from the living room upstairs, "That was easy." He said to himself as he walked to his room.
They were both dressed and in his Escalade within 15 minutes. Fitz knew how much of a TV family Olivia had so he figured he should wear a button up and nice jeans with his Polo boots, and he made sure he told Jake to wear a button up as well. He grabbed a few of the pies that the chef had prepared the night before to take with them, they couldn't just show up empty handed because that would be rude.
"Fitz, I never asked but what are we doing here?" Jake questioned as Fitz put the SUV in park.
"Do I need a reason to see my girl on Thanksgiving?"
"Yes, when you told me less than a hour ago that she was on her way over to our house."
"Stop asking questions and grab the pies from the back seat." Fitz said as he hopped out of the car. Fitz's phone rang when he went to reach for the door and he answered it on the bluetooth.
"Hello?"
"Change of plans Son, I have the jet taking us to see Jakes mother in LA and spend the rest of the day there so I need you two back here in about a hour."
"Really? That's awesome Unc!" Jake said excitedly.
"Yeah that is cool dad, we will be back. See you soon." Fitz said disconnecting the call. "I'll try and make this quick, ok?"
"Cool." Jake said getting out of the car.
They rang the doorbell and it seem like an eternity until someone came to the door.
"Fitz, what a nice surprise." Maya said smiling.
"Happy Thanksgiving, Mrs. Pope!" He said as he gave her a hug. "You look beautiful as usual, I hope you don't mind me surprising Liv."
"No, I don't mind at all. Hello, Jake. Nice to see you again as well." Maya said giving him a hug. "Come in, come in."
They hung their jackets up and follow her down the hallway to the living room. "Livia will be excited to see you Fitz."
He could hear laughter from the room and when he walked in his eyes zeroed in on her, she had her head thrown back in laughter and she was partially leaning into Mark, he ex-boyfriend Mark, as he laughed with her and the rest of the room. He heard her mother announce them and everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up at them. He introduced himself while keeping his eyes locked on hers for as long as he could before he was forced to look at the other people in the room as they introduced themselves to him. He offered to take the pies in the kitchen but before moving he looked over at her once more and she gave him a sexy smile and winked at him, he nodded as he turned to follow her mother into the kitchen.
"You can place them here Fitz." Maya pointed to the island in the middle of the kitchen where the other desserts were lined up before going back to join her guests.
He set them down and when he turned to head back into the living room Olivia was standing directing behind him. "Shit! Liv are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
"Sorry." She said leaning up on her tippy toes and giving him a kiss.
He wrapped his arms loosely around waist and looked down at her. "It's ok, you just really caught me off guard." He looked her over and smiled. "What is this hideous sweater that you have on?"
"What you don't like it? It took me a long time to pick it out." She pouted.
"I..uhh..yeah it looks great Livvie, you look great in anything." He stuttered.
"You are such a liar Fitz, but thanks that's sweet." She laughed. "If you didn't notice everyone in there had on a ugly sweater. It's a Pope Thanksgiving tradition and if I had known you were coming I would have made sure you were in on the joke."
"Your family is so corny Liv." He said laughing. "But I think it's cute."
"Hey we are not corny." She said as she slapped his chest playfully. "It is a lot of fun."
"Liv, your dad is looking for you. It is your turn and I think he is ready to end the game." Mark interrupted.
Olivia stepped back from Fitz and grabbed his hand pulling him toward the living room. "Hey Liv, why don't you go ahead I want to talk to Mark for a minute."
"Ok, but don't be too long." She gave him a quick kiss before leaving the kitchen.
"What's up?" Mark asked with an attitude.
"Relax, I just wanted to say we should call a truce." Fitz said holding his hand out to him. "No beef?"
Mark eyed him and placed his hands in his pocket. "What makes you think I want a truce with you? I know your type Fitz, you want to dominate everything and mark your territory. That is why you're here right? To let me know that Olivia is yours?"
"Fine, you want to be a idiot go right ahead just stay out of my way. Oh and you're right, Olivia is mine and I am hers, so back off." Fitz said as he walked by and shoulder checked Mark so hard that it almost knocked him to the ground.
When Fitz walked back into the living room he saw Olivia celebrating her win in UNO over her father. He walked over to her and held his hand out for her to grab, she reached for it and he led them outside on the porch.
"What is going on Fitzy?" Olivia asked as she pulled her jacket on.
"I'm sorry I hung up on you earlier and.." He pulled her to him wrapping his arms around her keeping her warm. "..and I missed so much but I can't stay long."
"It's ok and I know.." She said softly, looking up at him.
"Did you miss me?"
"When have I not missed you?" She lifted up on her tippy toes and lightly brushed her lips across his before moving her mouth to his ear and whispered, "Lets get out of here and I can show you how much.." She nibbled on his ear lobe lightly before saying, "..how much I missed you, how much I love you."
Fitz couldn't stop the huge grin that crossed his face. She was his heart and every time she said she loved him it felt like the first time. "As much as I would love that, it is Thanksgiving and you should share it with your family." Her face dropped. "Don't look at me like that Livvie, lets go to the kitchen so we can eat a piece of pie and I can tell you how thankful I am to have you in my life. That is what this day is for right?"
"It is but I would rather spend all day with you."
"I would rather do that too but my father changed the plans on me so I have to be back home in," He looked at his watch. "About 30 minutes."
"Ok, lets go get that pie then." She said smiling, pulling him inside towards the kitchen deciding not to waste anymore time talking about something that they couldn't change.
When they passed the group in the living room Fitz saw Mark with a sour look on his face and he winked at him smiling widely as he pulled his arm back causing Olivia to stop and he wrapped his around her shoulder pulling her close as they continued to make their way to the kitchen.
"Which one do you want?"
"My favorite of course."
Fitz moved to the pumpkin pie that he brought from his house and cut them both a slice making sure to put plenty of whip cream on top of it and grabbed a fork from the drawer. He had learned his way around her kitchen over the last few weeks and he had even prepared a meal with her dad for the four of them.
"Thanks Babe but how am I suppose to eat without a fork?" Olivia looked over to him questionably as he sat down next to him.
"Well," He cut a piece of her pie and put it on his fork and held it out to her. "I was hoping that I could feed you."
She opened her mouth and he gently placed the piece of pie on her tongue, she closed her eyes moaning slightly at how nice and moist it was.
"This may not have been the best idea." Fitz mumbled to himself as he took a bite of his own pie as he tried to picture anything to stop the growing inside of his pants.
Olivia opened her eyes and smiled at him, "That was so good." She leaned over and licked the whip cream that he had gotten on his lips teasing him with her tongue.
"God, Livvie..you gotta stop that. Between your moaning and then licking my lips," He looked down at his pants. "..I am hard as a rock."
"I know.." She said sliding her hand up his thigh pressing her thumb onto his shaft as she leaned back in and slipped her tongue in his mouth. Fitz was hesitant at first but then she felt him give in and she smirked briefly against his lips before attacking and sucking them back into her mouth again.
"Ahem."
Olivia and Fitz jumped apart and acted like nothing happened.
"What is going on in here?" Rowan asked.
"Uhh.. nothing dad we were just eating pie." Olivia said innocently.
"Mmhmm sure. Livia I understand that you want to be around your boyfriend but we were playing a game and you owe me a rematch."
"No problem Sir, I was actually on my way out." Fitz said attempting to stand when Olivia grabbed his arm forcing him to sit back down.
"Dad, I will be out there in a minute. I am just saying good-bye to Fitz before he has to leave."
"Ok sweetheart, take your time." Rowan said leaving the kitchen.
"I really should be-"
"Shh," Olivia said moving to sit on his lap. "I just wanted to let you know that I love you and I am thankful for you too and even if I get to spend everyday for the rest of my life loving you it will still never be enough. Now, sit here with me for one minute, you don't have to rush away and leave and I don't have to go entertain guests, we are just here..with each other. Can we do that, please?"
Fitz nodded and they sat there together, looking into each others eyes picturing forever. Nothing else mattered in that minute but them and it was perfect. Their minute ended and he kissed her softly letting his lips linger a bit before saying, "Happy Thanksgiving Livvie, I love you..always."
"Happy Thanksgiving to you too Babe, I'll love you forever."
