Hermione scowled and gripped her hands tight. "Where are we?" She managed to spit out the words with a mixture of distress and hatred.
Harry pushed himself up onto his hands and knees from his previous position on his stomach and looked up. His mouth dropped slightly open.
"A..." He raised his eyebrows, "pirate ship...?"
"A what?" Link choked through the blood dripping from his nose to his lips and off his chin.
Two massive masts towered before the group and the sails swayed leisurely in the light breeze. The sun was high above the ship, casting soft patterns on the open sea the boat was sat on and seeming the vanish the worn wooden deck. Ropes spider webbed across the ship, creating crisscrossed shadows on the floor and the equipment strewn about it.
"OK..." Harry said slowly as he staggered to his feet, losing his balance a bit as the ship swayed slightly. He straightened his glasses and held out his arm for Link to climb up, wrinkling his nose a little at the blood that was left on his once perfectly white shirt.
"Uh..." Link sniffed, "Well... um... that's new..."
A woman looked over her shoulder and sneered. "Pirates? What do you take us for? We are the Royal Navy! You snivelling..." She roared.
Hermione looked shocked and Naia was a bit terrified.
The woman scoffed and then broke into laughter. "You really thought I was from the navy?" Her laughter ripped past them like the harsh wind. She stuck out a hand towards them, it was rugged from years at the helm and ropes. " Anne Bonny. You are?" Her r's dragged almost theatrically.
Link stared at them through narrow eyes before saying distrustfully, "I'm Link. The one with the black out-of-control hair and glasses is Harry. Fluffy hair - but beautiful -" Link backed himself up quickly, "- is Hermione, the fairy's called Naia and the tall one with the red hair and freckles is Ron."
There was a long silence in which the wind howled past Link's long ears and made the blood on his face feel ice cold. Every now and again another crew member would join the crowd of baffled onlookers.
"But-" A young man with a front tooth missing and mousy hair spoke up, "There ain't no guy with red hair."
"What?" Harry and Link both said alarmingly at the same time, looking around.
"No!" Link exclaimed, spinning in a circle with his hands on the back of his head in distress, "No no no no no no!"
"But-" Harry said in an inquisitive tone, "He was right with us, just now!"
"He was touching Ghirahim at the castle so..." Link stamped his foot like a toddler having a tantrum, "He's stuck with him! Ghirahim's got Ron! That demon must have transported us here somehow!"
"But if Ghirahim's got Ron..."
"Din knows what he'll do to him." Link sighed, running his fingers through his hair and his eyes wide and staring, "No, no, this is my fault! All of you are in MY care! I was so reckless! Idiot!" He thumped himself in the forehead with the base of his palm.
"Link, now's not the time. Hitting yourself in the head isn't going to do anything." Harry said sternly.
"Yeah." Link nodded, "Yeah, you're right. Sorry." He sniffed again.
"Uh..." Harry looked back at the pirates, "sorry - but his nose is broken. Uh... have you got anything to dress - no, wait, no - I'm a wizard. Right. Uhm... Hermione?"
"A wizard? " Anne said suprised. "That'll come in mighty useful aboard 'ere." She smiled. "Been a long time since I seen a proper Mage. Very long time..." She stared at Hermione expectantly.
Hermione was still shocked at Ron's departure, she shook slightly as she made the incantation. With a wave of her wand, the nose was healed.
"So. Where are we headed, which ship is this and... anyone we should know?" Naia asked as she flew over to Anne.
A man who had stopped to watch walked over. His hair was dark with a few premature greys, it was shaggy and combined with his beard, it covered his face almost entirely. He averted his eyes to the floor, but said in a rugged voice. "They can come with me, I'll show 'em around."
"OK..." Link said in a still distrustful tone, "well we need to get back to the Hyrule mainland as soon as possible." He glared at Anne, "Can you get us anywhere near friendly land?"
"Sorry lad." Anne laughed as she spoke. "We've set a course. And anyway, you think the captain would listen to you? You'd be hard pressed to convince them you aren't stow-aways!" She shook her head. "We aren't going too far though. I'd say you'd best be vanishing the way you came!"
Link sighed deeply and ran his hands through his hair, "Look, this is important - very important. Our friend is in the hands of a very dangerous man and we NEED to get to him before anything bad happens!"
Anne held her hands out in defence. "I'm sorry to hear it, lads and lasses and... Wha'ever-" She looked at Naia, who mumbled "fairys...", "-but right now you got yourselves a bigger problem." She looked around. "Any these others think yer stowaways... And you won't be no good to nobody. 'Cept maybe the sharks. And any other flesh eatin' fishes." Her expression grew dark. "Sailor, you take these and dress em up proper, don't go lettin on to nobody."
The sailor nodded his head, which made his haggard beard scratch against his ripped clothes. "Um... Follow.. Me.." He turned around uncertainly and walked downstairs.
Link opened his mouth to bring out a retort, but Harry cut across him, loudly complaining, "Hey! That's my best friend you're making us abandon! I won't let you!"
Muttering came from the crowd around them.
Link scanned the crew, his eyes skipping from one detail to the other - most of them were armed, their hands very close to their swords. There would be no way that the four of them would be able to convince the whole crew without starting a fight, and if they did start one, they'd stand no hope against all these pirates. He slipped his hand onto Harry's shoulder.
Harry looked around at him, his angry eyes blocked a little by the sunlight bouncing off his glasses.
"Don't anger them." Link muttered with a worried edge to his voice.
"But-"
"Yes, I know, but if we're nice to them, we might just get a few more fighters on our side, eh? Now pipe down and follow the man." Link raised his eyebrows at the sailor with the haggard beard.
Harry sighed deeply and slumped towards the man, Link patting him encouragingly on the back and following.
