Christmas Always Brings Cheer
(Renesmee's POV)
I blinked as I looked out the window carefully. An uneasy feeling going through me. Lizzy was seated on one side of me with Aidan supporting her. His face was pressed up against the glass while my little sister watched him with wide eyes. Meanwhile Lily was seated on the other side of me. She had a blanket wrapped around her form while she fiddled with a stuff bear's ears. All we felt like doing was watch the snow. How could something so magical and beautiful have to happen in a time like this?
Christmas was approaching in a few days, and none of us felt the holiday spirt. Ever since there's been a crack down with everything going on with Lorenzo, we seemed to be getting more worried each day. Now it didn't seem like there would be a Christmas.
Momma's pregnancy seemed to be going well. That's something to look forward to. We were going to have another addition to our family soon.
The odd thing is that this pregnancy seemed to be speeding by faster than Lizzy's or even mine. Her stomach was huge now and it's only been about two weeks since we found out. Grandpa Carlisle had called Ethan to inform him of the news of Momma's pregnancy and all about Lorenzo. Ethan told us that when his mother was pregnant with him and his brother they were very fast pregnancies. At the rate this baby is developing, we have a strong hunch it's a boy. Well I think it's a boy. Lily and a few others are set on it being another girl.
"So...Is Santa going to even come?" Lily asked me in a mumble. She was resting her chin on her hand while watching the snow fall.
"I'm sure he'll come, he's Santa," I exclaimed, giving her a reassuring smile.
"We know, but what if Lorenzo gets him?" Aidan questioned curiously. They all looked at me, including Lizzy, for an answer. I bit my lip. It stinks being older sometimes...I don't have the answers to everything!
"He won't Aide, he's Santa. He's magical, so no one can beat him," I replied, trying to sound positive.
"So, we're vampires. How come he can get to us," Lily pointed out.
"Santa's more powerful than everyone combined. I promise, he'll come. He won't forget us and Lorenzo will not get him. No one will!" I vowed to my cousins and sister.
They just all shrugged at me before turning their attention back to the window. Something tells me they didn't buy it so I just turned my head to look at the snow again. It looked like we would be having a white Christmas
"Why the long faces guys?" Seth asked us. He was dressed in a green and black striped sweater and a pair of shorts. His hands were shoved in his pockets as he walked over to us.
"Lorenzo is gonna kill Santa," Lily mumbled, her eyes not moving from the window. Seth raised his eyebrows at us in a bit of shock.
"You know Santa can deliver your presents without harm from Lorenzo!" Seth announced, a big smile on his face.
"Nessie said the same thing," Aidan replied, turning his head to look at him with an unamused glance.
"Nice try though," I told him.
Seth frowned. "I don't think you guys understand though! Santa's really powerful! He can um turn Lorenzo into a...gingerbread man. Yeah, a gingerbread man. He can turn him into a gingerbread man," Seth muttered, trailing off a bit. We all looked at him like he's crazy before returning to watch the snow.
"Kids! Don't mope around," Aunt Alice scolded as she pranced into the room. My aunt was very into the holiday spirt with her festive Christmas themed outfit. She even had earrings that seemed to light up like an actual tree. "It's Christmas! So get your holiday spirit on!"
"Sorry Aunt Alice, but Christmas doesn't seem that fun anymore." Lily sighed, now resting her head against the window.
"Not FUN!?" Aunt Alice looked at us incredulously with her pixie mouth hanging wide open.
"Aunt Alice? Are you okay?" I asked, waving a hand in front of her frozen marble face.
"Sorry about that," She replied, shaking her head a bit. My aunt then looked at us in disbelief, "How can you guys not like Christmas? You've never even had one! Except for Ness, but none of you have even experienced the wonder that is Christmas!"
"Lorenzo," Aidan replied lamely. "That's why."
"Well you shouldn't let little old Lorenzo stop you from having fun. Come on, it's Christmas! There is always something cheery to do even in the darkest of times," Aunt Alice declared as she placed a red santa cap on her pixie head.
"Are you sure?" I asked her.
"Of course, sweetie! We're going to have a ton of fun!" Aunt Alice exclaimed, taking Lily's hand and mine as well. "Come on, let's go decorate the house!"
I looked at Lily and Aidan, then shrugged. I just grabbed Aidan's hand with my free one and followed my aunt. Seth, who was a bit confused as well, followed us from behind with Lizzy in his arms.
Aunt Alice brought us to the small barren tree that she, Uncle Emmett, and Uncle Jasper dragged from the woods this morning. It was mostly Aunt Alice and Uncle Emmett who said they would be bringing home a fresh tree from the woods. They dragged Uncle Jazz with them. I still don't see how someone can deal with Aunt Alice's cheeriness like Uncle Jasper.
The three of us took a seat down in front of it, starring at the large pine in awe. Seth put Lizzy down so she could crawl over to us. I pick her up in my arms and fixate her so we can all look at the tree.
"What do you think kids? Pretty big, huh?" Uncle Emmett boomed coming over to us.
"Very," I replied, blinking at it.
"Yeah," Uncle Jasper chimed, walking next to Uncle Emmett. "I had to make sure your aunt and uncle didn't get in trouble with the humans for chopping it down."
"You can get in trouble for that?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No...I mean, it was around our property," Uncle Emmett muttered.
"I'm telling my grandpa," I insisted.
"It's fine, Ness. Don't worry," Uncle Jasper told me, chuckling.
"Alright," I replied hesitantly. I just shrugged it off anyway. Leave it to Uncle Emmett and Aunt Alice to steal a tree.
"Now! Come on kids, you can put whatever ornaments you want!" Aunt Alice exclaimed, dancing around all of us. We all froze and looked at her with baffled expressions. Even Lizzy, who's still pretty little, looked at Aunt Alice like she was insane.
"No color codes? No specific order?" I questioned. Aunt Alice nodded at me with a grin.
"It's Christmas, it doesn't matter," She replied simply placing all the boxes in front of us.
"But last Christmas when you decorated the tree here it did matter," I pointed out.
"Not this year. I've learned sometimes the best things don't need an order. Come on. It'll be really fun!" Aunt Alice chirped, jumping up and down like an excited jelly bean.
I proceed to share a look with my cousins and sister. "Okay either Aunt Alice has gone bonkers or this is all fake..." Aidan muttered, this caused my aunt to roll her eyes.
"Just like your father," Aunt Alice mumbled. "Kids it's Christmas! The one time of the year your crazy Aunt doesn't have to plan anything. You choose where you want the ornament to go."
Aunt Alice smiled at us as she placed a tiny ballerina ornament on the tree. You know Uncle Emmett claims Aunt Alice was a ballerina in her human life.
"What are you kids up to?" Aunt Rosalie asked as she walked over towards us. My mom followed with my dad by her side.
"I see you guys all got a tree," Grandpa Carlisle mused as he walked from down the hall with Grandma.
"Yep! Jazz, Emmett, and I got it this morning!" Aunt Alice exclaimed, prancing around. "Now come on everyone it's time to decorate the Cullen family tree!"
"Wow," Jacob mused, looking at us. "Seth and I should probably go-"
"No, stay," Grandma Esme insisted. "You two are family."
"Are you sure?" Jacob asked slowly, looking around the family.
"Yeah! Stay Jakey!" I exclaimed, running up to him.
"Just stay, dog," Aunt Rosalie said, rolling her eyes.
"Fine, I will," Jacob announced, looking down at me. I smiled, wrapping my arms around his torso. Jacob chuckled, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.
It was fun actually going through the past of our eldest vampire members. For their first Christmas with the family Grandma Esme used to have an ornament made especially for each person. Grandpa Carlisle's ornament is a doctor's kit, Grandma has a gold heart, Daddy has a piano, Aunt Rose has a rose, Uncle Emmett has a cute grizzly bear, Uncle Jasper has a cowboy hat, and Aunt Alice has a sparkling pixie.
"What about us?" Aidan asked as we looked at the special ornaments. "Do we get special ornaments?"
"Oh that's right, you almost made me forget. I actually got you guys very special ones," Grandma exclaimed, running over to grab a box.
"Here you go Renesmee," Grandma said, handing me a small wolf ornament. I look to see Aidan got one of a bear, Lily has a deer, and Lizzy a lizard.
"Thank you Grandma," I told her, throwing my arms around her torso.
"You're welcome my dear," Grandma said, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. "Now, I have this for your parents as well." She then held up two ornaments, a lion and a lamb.
I chuckled with her. "They're great," I said.
Grandma smiled warmly, "Here, why don't you give them to your parents."
I nodded enthusiastically and looked to where my family was. Daddy was sitting next to Momma. Lizzy was in his lap, her eyes watching the sparkling ornaments getting placed on the three. They're all smiling while I skipped over to them. My parents both smile when they see the ornaments.
"You wanna put them on for us baby?" Momma asked me, cupping my cheek. I nodded eagerly while go to place the two ornaments on the tree.
Momma then pulled me on her lap once I was done. I sat with my sister and admired the finished product. It was really beautiful.
"All that's missing is the star," Aidan announced happily. "So...who gets to put it on the top?"
"I say Nessie!" Lily exclaimed, smiling at me. I felt myself blush as everyone in the family turned to me.
"It's fine, I don't need to. Lily or Aidan can?" I suggested, but they both shook their head.
"No Nessie, we want you to," Aidan added, nodding his head.
"Alright," I say, giving into my cousins. They both send me grins as Aunt Alice hands me the star.
"Here, Ness," Jacob said as he hoisted me up to the top of the tree. This is where I then place the star. I smiled in triumph as Jacob gently lets me down. We all observe the tree in awe. It was truly beautiful.
"Wait one last touch," Grandpa declared as he went to turn on the Christmas lights.
Soon a bunch of twinkling lights filled our home. I grinned in awe before I walk over to my aunt.
"Hey, baby. Like the tree?" Aunt Alice asked me.
I nodded, "Yeah...Thanks for making everything better, Aunt Alice."
My aunt grinned, "Of course, baby. That's my job. I just want to see you kids happy."
"Well, thank you," I told her softly. My aunt chuckled as she then wrapped me in a hug.
I then took a seat right next to my momma on the couch so I could observe the tree. Jacob took a seat right next to me and I held tightly to his hand. Daddy wrapped an arm around Momma while Lizzy sat on his lap. Her bright green eyes watching in awe. Seth took the seat next to them and smiled widely.
I looked towards my cousins. Lily and Aidan were smushed right in between Aunt Rose and Uncle Emmett. He kept making jokes, causing them to laugh. My aunt watched them warmly, sharing loving looks with my uncle. Meanwhile, Aunt Alice was buried in Uncle Jasper's lap. Her eyes sparkling just like the tree's lights. My grandmother was in my grandfather's arms, their eyes full of proud love at our family.
I guess you can say that even in the darkest of times, Christmas can bring cheer.
