Home Sweet Home?
(Renesmee's POV)
I fiddled with Scout one last time as I placed her into my backpack. I looked around the room I've been sharing with my siblings for a good month or two. Today was the day we would be going to the safe house. Jacob, Seth, Colin, and Brady would be joining us. Seth and Jacob would be staying in the house while Colin and Brady paroled the area. Meanwhile Sam, Paul, Jarred, Leah, Quil, Embry, and a few of the other wolves would be staying behind. Some of the new wolves would be paroling around the La Push territory and the town so none of Lorenzo's people can attack any of the citizens or the reservation. Grandpa Charlie, Nanna Sue, Billy, Jake's sister Rachel, and Emily are heading out to Hawaii to meet up with Jacob's other sister, Rebecca, and her fiancé. They told Rebecca it's just for a visit, but they're just going there so they can be safe. It was our best option right now.
"The Denali's are here!" I heard Aunt Alice call out from downstairs. Oh yeah, our cousins from Alaska. Grandpa asked them for their help the other day. Tanya said yes to him. I just hope they know what they're getting themselves into.
"Are you okay?" I looked to see my dad standing by the doorway. I was the last one to finish up packing and honestly, I didn't want to leave. I felt bad that all these people were putting themselves in danger. Something I feel like I started.
"Renesmee, this isn't your fault. This man is crazy. You had nothing to do with this," My dad said to me sternly. "He's not just threatening our family. He's threat to everyone in Forks. None of this ever has been your fault."
"I know...It's just...Somehow I feel like it is," I replied softly. My eyes starring down at the floor.
"Well it's not. You can't help yourself for being a hybrid, or him finding our family as a threat just because of the variety of species we have," my dad pointed out.
"I know...but still," I muttered.
"You remind me so much of your mother." He chuckled slightly. I give a weak chuckle as I go to zip up my backpack. It reminded me when I almost had to run from the Volturi.
"Renesmee Carlie, listen to me," My dad told me. He then walked over and knelt down so we were eye level. "I know you hate this, but your mother and I need you. We need you to help with the younger kids. Keep them calm. I know Lizzy isn't taking this well and at the moment she is refusing to let go of your mother. Meanwhile Masen won't stop latching on to someone's leg. Lily and Aidan aren't doing so hot either. They keep clinging to your aunt and uncle. They're all terrified right now."
"I am too," I pointed out.
"I know you are, but I also know you're one of the bravest and most strongest people I know," He said, grabbing both of my arms gently. "What I need you to be is our eyes and ears. It's your job to protect them and reassure them that everything is going to be fine. I don't trust anyone else with this. I know out of everyone here you can do that job the best...So can I trust you?"
"Yes," I answered confidently. "You can. I promise I won't let anything happen to them."
"That's my girl," My dad said, cupping my cheek. A proud smile appearing on his face. I smiled back, but it's a weak one as well.
"So why aren't you saying hi to the Denali's? Is it Tanya?" I quipped in my head curiously. My dad frowned slightly, but I could tell he was slightly amused.
"How do you know about that?" He questioned. A playful smirk forming on his face.
"You know, here and there," I replied teasingly, a quirky smile appearing on my face.
"Oh really?" He said, his eyebrows raised.
I chuckled, "Well that...And Aunt Alice told me."
My dad groaned. "Well remember, I only have eyes for your mother. No one else," He reminded me.
"I know." I giggled. With that, I then go to take his hand as we could head downstairs to join the others.
When I get to the bottom, I see Lizzy is clinging to Momma for dear life. Meanwhile Masen was hugging onto Uncle Jasper's legs while Lily got Uncle Emmett's. Aidan was gripping onto Rosalie, trying to control his tears while she shushed him.
I look to see the Denali's filled our living room up as they talked to my grandparents. Grandpa and Grandma were introducing Ethan to them and I think Ethan was explaining what he was to our 'cousins'.
"Bebé linda!" I heard the Spanish accented voice of Carmen fill my ears. I turn around and smile when I spot her amongst the Denali's. Eleazar was right beside her. "You're not a bebe anymore, but niña you grew from last time we saw you!"
"Carmen!" I exclaimed, rushing over to hug her. I smiled as she picked me up in a warm hug. She reminded me so much of Grandma Esme. Very caring and so full of love.
"These are unfortunate circumstances, but none the less I'm so happy to see you, bebé linda," Carmen said.
I nodded in agreement. "Hopefully this'll end soon," I replied. She nodded in agreement before placing a kiss on my forehead.
Carmen was one of the few people to let me in first as a child when the Volturi came. She was one of the first to believe me. I always loved visiting her. She would teach me Spanish words and tell me stories about tales of her life in Spain. I loved her dearly.
"So the new children, sorry to sound rude, but Carlisle what exactly are your new grandchildren?" Tanya questioned, noticing my siblings right away. My cousins were right behind them with wide inquisitive eyes.
"They seem like young Renesmee," Eleazar mentioned.
"And they can't be immortal children because they have beating hearts, but two of them are much slower," Tanya added.
"Well I promise you they're not children of the immortal. Lily and Aidan over here are Rosalie and Emmett's children. They are half human and half vampire, like Renesmee," Grandpa explained to them. "Their birth parents died when they were infants," Grandpa said as he trailed off a bit at the mention of Gwen and Matt.
I noticed Lily and Aidan look at each other warily when they heard about their birth parents. They asked Aunt Rose the other day about their birth Momma. I guess they finally were old enough to understand that Aunt Rose and Uncle Emmett weren't their birth parents. Aunt Rosalie decided it was time to tell about their parents. She told them how Gwen came into our family, but sadly she died during their birth. Aunt Rose said to them that she's an angel in heaven now; watching over them with their dad. Uncle Emmett and Aunt Rose promised the twins they would visit her grave when all of this was over.
"What about these two cuties here?" Kate asked, noticing my brother and sister.
"They are just like Ethan," Daddy explained, motioning to Ethan.
Ethan was now leaning against the doorway watching us. His face always carried hurt looking at us. I wonder why sometimes. He saw me looking at him and sends me a soft smile. I give him a smile back before heading over to my parents and siblings.
"I think we should get going," Jacob said as he entered the room. Lizzy began to sob as she held tight to Momma. Masen held tightly on to my father's legs now, begging him not to go.
"Shhh baby girl, don't worry. We'll see each other soon and until then Seth and the others will protect you," Momma hushed her as she tried to calm her down by rocking her.
I look at Daddy as he went to say goodbye to Masen. He was hugging on tightly to him as Masen cried into his shoulder. "Don't worry son, it'll be over soon," My dad promised my brother, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
My stomach was in knots. I hated this. None of us wanted to leave, but we had to. I go over to Daddy once he is done and let him embrace me into a hug.
"I love you Daddy," I mumbled into his shoulder.
"I love you too angel."
Daddy puts me down so I can say goodbye to Momma and he can to Lizzy. Daddy takes Lizzy from Momma. When my mom sees me she scoops me up right away into a tight hug. I hold on as tight as I could to my mother. I take in her scent and try to calm myself down. I wanted to cry right now, but I couldn't. I promised Daddy I would be strong. I needed to be, for the others.
"Everything is going to be fine baby, I promise. Please take care of your siblings and cousins. They'll need you angel," Momma told me softly.
"I'll protect them, Momma. Don't worry," I whispered, to her. "I promise."
"I know you will. You're such a strong little girl," Momma replied softly, pressing a kiss to my cheek. "I love you Renesmee Carlie Cullen, more than my own life."
"I love you too Momma, stay safe," I whispered back, hugging onto her tightly one last time.
Momma smiled weakly as she goes to place me down. I take her hand as we then head outside. Jacob, Seth, Colin, and Brady are all ready to head out to the cabin. Apparently my grandparents own some cabin not to far from here.
Momma placed me on Jacob's back first and goes to face him.
"I'm trusting you with my daughter once again, protect her," she whispered to him. Jacob nodded firmly and rubbed against her hand in response. She smiled and went to pet him before placing Lizzy on.
I grip onto Jacob's fur with Lizzy in my arms. Masen is gripping to my back while Lily and Aidan ride Seth. I could tell Lizzy wanted to be with Seth, but I felt it was safer with her in my reach.
I watched as my parents wave to us from the back porch. My aunt and uncles were with them as well to see us off. Daddy is holding Momma in his arms as we look back at them. Soon Jacob begins to run with the other wolves. My gaze doesn't leave my parents as we rush through the pine trees of Forks. Soon I couldn't see anyone. Just trees.
What seemed like endless pine trees and melting snow finally ended when we approached a cabin. It looked like a cottage out of a fairy tale, like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. It was small, but quaint. It was brown with a bunch of flowers beginning to grow all around the lawn. I could tell it has Grandma Esme's charm. I think daddy mentioned it was used as a place for them to use when they went hunting out here before they lived in Forks. But I think nowadays they used it as a place for humans to rent once and awhile, or it's just abandoned. I'm not really sure.
The cabin was in the mountains so there was more snow on the ground compared to at our house. I stepped off of Jacob with Lizzy in my arms while Masen hugged onto my arm. Lily and Aidan got off of Seth and approached my side. Lily held onto Aidan's hand.
We waited until Seth and Jacob shape shifted while Colin and Brady took a nice spot right by the cabin.
When Lizzy spotted Seth she began to reach for him. I think she needed him now. He is her protector, and I think she needs his comfort. Lizzy goes to snuggle in his arms as we walk over to the cabin.
"Come on guys, let's check it out," Seth said enthusiastically, trying to cheer us up. We just shrug it off as we enter the old cabin. I looked around to see this place looked right out of the eighties or something.
"Looks like no one has been here for awhile," Jacob mused, turning on the flickering light.
"So how many rooms are there?" I asked curiously as I look around the small cabin.
"Well I guess you kids should check it out," Jacob replied lightly, cracking a smile.
For the first time in awhile us kids smile as we run around the cabin. There were two bedrooms all together. One was a master bedroom and the other was a room with two twin beds.
"You kids sleep in the master, Seth and I'll take the other room," Jacob told us.
"Okay!" I exclaimed.
I then go to place my backpack in the room with the others. The room was like every other room in the cabin. It had wood paneling and paintings of nature. There was an old T.V on the dresser that only got a few stations.
"So what do we do now?" Aidan asked as we went into the living room.
"There are some bored games," Seth mentioned, pointing them out to us in the corner of the room.
"We could play those." Lily shrugged.
"Sounds like fun," Masen agreed. We look through them all until we decide on playing an old version of scrabble. It wasn't that bad of a game. In fact, it was kind of fun.
"I'm hungry," Aidan announced to us along with the grumbling of his stomach.
"Yeah," Lily agreed. I nodded with my cousin. We then looked towards Seth and Jacob for an answer.
"I'm thirsty," Masen complained and Lizzy nodded with him.
This caused Seth and Jacob exchange looks with one another. I giggled a bit. I'm pretty sure they had no clue what to do.
"Maybe they have blood in the fridge?" Seth said, getting a smack upside the head from Jacob.
"You guys eat enough food, you should know how to make some. Right?" Lily sassily pointed out, frowning at them. I think Aunt Rosalie influenced Lil a bit too much with her hatred towards the wolves.
"We know how to make food, it's just we don't know how to make or should I say get blood," Seth muttered.
"Well you know you're made of blood," Lily remarked, but I could tell she was only teasing. I shot her a warning glance and she gave me a 'what can you do' look. Jacob and Seth both share glances at one another before they dash for the fridge. I watched as they rummage through it with the others.
"Ah ha! Looks like pixie knew someone was going to be asking!" Jacob exclaimed pulling out a container filled with mountain lion blood.
"Okay Seth, you give them the blood, I got the food," Jacob ordered.
"Wait, yuck! Jake, why do I have to?" Seth whined. We all giggle as we watch them bicker.
"Because, Lizzy is your imprint and Masen is her brother. So suck it up," Jacob mumbled as he went to get the rest of us dinner.
Seth chuckled at this remark. "Hey, you said Suck it up! Get it. Because they're vampires-"
"Yes Seth," Jacob mumbled, annoyance laced his voice. We watched as Seth fill up two bottles of blood for Masen and Lizzy. The whole time his face was scrunched up with disgust.
"Here you two go, drink up," Seth chirped as he handed Masen and Lizzy each a bottle.
"And here's your dinner. I made sandwiches. It's the only thing I could make, so pity me here. I'm no Esme when it comes to cooking," Jacob said to Lily, Aidan, and I as he placed the sandwiches on the table.
I took a bite into mine and furrow my brows in confusion. I think it was turkey...Maybe ham? Who the heck knows. I didn't really care too much. Aidan mindlessly chewed on his while Lily scrunched up her nose as she ate hers.
"Not bad Jakey," I told him.
"Thanks kiddo," He smiled, ruffling my hair.
"Watch the hair," I warned him teasingly. He chuckled as he goes to sit down on the couch with a big old sandwich for himself.
Once we finished our dinner I didn't realize how late it was. I noticed my sister was passed out on Seth's lap, kind of how I use to pass out on Jake's when I was her age. I could tell Lily, Aidan, and Masen were getting tired as well, but they were too busy watching an old movie from 1970.
"I think it's time for you kiddos to head to bed," Jacob announced. They automatically groaned at the order like any kid would.
"He's right. Come on guys," I said taking charge of the younger kids.
"Fine," Lily agreed reluctantly. The boys agreed to as they headed off to the bedroom. Meanwhile I took Lizzy from Seth and went to join them in the master bedroom. I put Lizzy in her moses basket and placed it onto one of the larger dressers. From there I then crawl into the bed making sure I was on the end. Lily got on the end too so the boys were in the middle.
"Are our mommies and daddies going to be fine?" Lily asked in the midst of the calm night.
"I don't know," I confessed. I was worrying just like her. Who knows when Lorenzo and his goons would attack us.
"I hate this, I want this to be over with- now!" Aidan cried out in frustration.
"Welcome to the club," Lily grumbled.
"Well this is all that's been going on since I was born, so I think I win," Masen mumbled into his pillow.
"Come on guys. Let's try to get some sleep," I encouraged them. They sighed in response, but without another word they snuggle into the bed and fall fast asleep.
I still stay awake though. I couldn't sleep. I was too nervous so all I did was look up at the ceiling. As I just sit in the silence I hear a door creak. My breath hitches and my speedy heart begins to pound. I hear footsteps enter the house and I hold my breath. It can't be Seth or Jacob because I could hear them snoring away in the other room.
I decide to see who it is, feeling a bit brave. I climb out of the bed slowly and quietly. I peek through the window to see a dark figure is entering the house. I close my eyes and I'm praying it isn't Lorenzo, and maybe momma or daddy were here. Or someone else from my family. Maybe this whole thing was over and they're coming to fetch us.
I go to open the door slightly some more and look around the dark cabin. I am not sure if I'm daring enough to step out. That's when I hear a howl. I snap around to see someone standing in the doorway. I couldn't make it out because it was so dark.
"Who are you?" I demanded. "Tell me!"
"Nice try kid. It really was a good try, but you're not getting away from me." I see Lorenzo is now in view. My eyes widen as he begins to stalk forward.
And that's when I scream.
