Chaos with a touch of Stealth

-Chapter Sixteen-

"Well it doesn't look like much"

"shh….there bullymong of course it doesn't look like much"

"I mean I don't see any bullymong"

"I know, they must be inside the hive now."

"Why?"

"Safe guess is there feeding which means all the better to staying hidden"

"Well lead the way Zero"

"Step where I step and don't make a sound. Understood"

"Understood"

"Krieg?"

"I got it Tin-man, this isn't my first death walk"

"Well I'd prefer if it wasn't my last. Now let's go"

Zero started running towards the left side of the entrance with Gaige and Krieg following up behind him. As they reached the entrance Zero ducked into a crack the size of a child and continued running quietly. Gaige followed with ease, but Krieg had to squeeze through and struggled not to grunt as an ice shard started to cut into him. The crack soon widen into a small corridor.

"It should be smooth sailing from here on"

"Really, I thought it was going to be harder than that"

"Were not out yet and keep your voice down, everything will echo in here and even if they can't pin point are location they will search until they find us if they hear us"

"How many bullymong are in this hive?"

"Don't know, don't want to know"

"Guess"

"Over a thousand"

"What?"

"Not what you wanted to hear was it"

"I've only ever heard of bullymong in groups of twenty or so and when you said hive I was thinking something like sixty but a thousand, how are we going to avoid them all"

"By being quiet and taking paths too small for them now back to silence"

They continued down the corridor until it reached a fork.

"Two paths"

"shh…I know. We will take the one to the left it leads through to the other end of the hive and avoids all their main tunnels"

"Where does the other path lead?"

"It goes up to a path on the cliff side of the glacier, very open, very exposed and if we get caught up there the bullymong will be the least of our concerns"

"Why?"

"Well there's the cliff and the rakk nest above the glacier"

"And you know this how"

"Made the mistake of taking that path the first time I went through here. Never again, now let's go"

"Zero"

"What is it Krieg?"

"Is that path going to still be open?"

"What does he mean by that?"

"I had forgotten. Last time I was here me and Krieg used this path and well something found us and by something I mean a bullymong, but this thing wasn't like anything I've ever come by. I can only assume it was what people refer to as an advanced badass"

"Advanced? Is that possible?"

"It's extremely rare, but with this many bullymong in one place it was bound to happen. It was able to smell us a broke straight threw the glacier to get to us bringing the tunnel down behind us. We were able to out run it, but the tunnel was destroyed. Krieg is right we can't take that path unless we want to go into one of their main tunnels and I would rather not so I guess that means we go right"

"I guess never came sooner than expected"

"I suppose it did. Let's go"

The three continued along the right tunnel until it opened up onto a cliff path easily wide enough to fit at least 3-4 bullymong side by side.

"Stop for a minute let's just take a look at what's out there right now"

"I don't see anything and now I know what you mean by open, if anything were to come out it would be able to see us no matter where we are"

"Yep"

"And where do we need to get too"

"That tunnel all the way at the other end"

"That's no small distance Tin-man"

"No it's not, but luckily there are no bullymong out and a minimal amount of rakk in the sky."

"Then what's the plan Zero?"

"On my mark we run and don't stop running, not for any reason until you get there, not for me, not for Krieg, not for anything, once were out there you don't stop for nothing until you get there. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes"

"Same goes to you Krieg"

"Got it"

"Three….Two…..One…Run"

The three started running across the open cliff path as fast as they could. The rakk started to notice them running and started to fly towards them. The rakk dive bombed them as they were running, but they paid little attention to the rakk and just kept swatting them away as they went. Krieg was the only one killing them as they went swinging his axe as they ran. They were about three-quarters there when they heard it. The bark of a huge bullymong.

"What was that?"

"That would be are old friend now run faster"

"Zero, Gaige keep going"

"Don't you dare stop Krieg!"

"I'll be right behind you guys"

"Krieg keep running or I will kill you myself"

"Sorry Tin-man, but you two are the ones getting out of this alive"

Krieg stopped running and turned around preparing for the badass bullymong to catch up. Zero and Gaige finally made it to the entrance of the tunnel.

"What about Krieg?"

"Gaige just listen to me. No matter what happens get yourself out of here and Krieg if you can"

"Wait what are you going to do?"

"I'm making things right. I shouldn't have hidden the fact that Krieg had a kid and I can't let him die before he gets the chance to meet her"

"You didn't tell me what you're going to do"

"Krieg is standing directly by the edge of the cliff. He doesn't mean to kill it, just simply make it kill itself along with him. I'm sorry"

"No you can't do this. Not now, not to me"

Zero put a hand behind Gaige's head and brought it towards him so his forehead was resting on hers.

"In another life we could have been something"

Zero in that moment disappeared.

"COME AT ME YOU UGLY PIECE OF FUR! I'VE BEEN CRAVING TO SINK MY MEAT BICYCLE INTO YOU SINCE LAST TIME WE MET!"

The bullymong launched its self at Krieg, but just as it was about to grab him Zero appeared from his side and pushed him out of the way. The bullymong grabbed Zero and fell off the edge of the cliff.

"NOOOOOO!"

(No)

Krieg stumbled to get up onto his feet trying to make sense of what had happened.

"What just happened?"

(Zero sacrificed himself for you now run. Get Gaige and run)

"But he wouldn't"

(Don't question, just run, more will come)

Krieg ran to where Gaige was now kneeling in the tunnel crying.

"We have to go now"

Gaige ignored Krieg and continued to cry.

"I'm not leaving you here"

Gaige continued to cry.

(Pick her up and carry her. We don't have time for this)

"I'm afraid you leave me no choice Robo-girl"

Krieg picked Gaige up over his shoulder and started to run down the tunnel.

"No! Put me down we have to go back, we can't leave him"

"He's gone Gaige"

"NO! He can't be. Its Zero he's ok. He has to be"

"Not this time Gaige"

Gaige continued to hit and yell at Krieg but after a short while just gave up and went back to crying. They finally reached the end of the tunnel and left the hive. After continuing to run for another two kilometers Krieg stopped and put Gaige down and started to set up camp. Gaige just sat still, no more tears running down her face, but a solemn look was upon her face. Krieg finished setting up their camp and started a fire and sat opposite of the fire to Gaige.

"I'm sorry"

Gaige looked up at Krieg.

"You knew him longer; I should be the one who is sorry"

"You cared for him, he was just an ends to a mean too me"

"You don't mean that"

"No, but I'll be ok. Will you?"

"I don't know. He was…"

"He was what?"

"The closest thing to a boyfriend I've ever had. I never had a guy get nervous around me or like me for that matter"

"That's rough"

"And the sad thing is I never got to see his face"

"That was for the better"

"What do you mean by that?"

"I got to see him once after the fight with that bullymong his armor was damaged and he had to do some repairs on it. Let's just say the armor isn't all about protection, it's also about hiding all the scars he has. What ever happened to him in the past it wasn't pleasant to say the least and he wasn't winning most handsome tin-man of the year awards"

"I don't care. I just wish I could have seen him at least once, no armor, just him"

"Well I'm afraid that isn't going to happen now"

"I know"

"Gaige"

"Yes?"

"I understand if when we get to Sanctuary that you choose to go another way"

"And go where, I may have only known you for a short period of time Krieg, but you and Zero are the closest thing to a family or friends for that matter I've ever had. No I think I best sticking with you. I won't be good by myself for a while"

"Ok. Why don't you get some sleep Gaige? I'll take the first watch tonight"

"Alright"

"Gaige got up and went into Zero's old tent and passed out.

(So Zero is gone now)

"Yep"

(This isn't how it was supposed to happen)

"I know"
