Kisara blew her bangs away from her eyes, she was laying down on the grass and staring up at the cloudless sky. It was always peaceful, yet at times, it was loud from the shouts of the village men and women.
"Kagome Kagome."
Her ears perked, swiveled around and twitched upon hearing the name of her mother. Although, the voice of the person came from a child, she sat up and looked about. She noticed a group of children in a circle and she turned her head to the side in curiosity.
"You are no more than a bird in a cage," they all sang in unison and she furrowed her brows, noticing another kid in the middle, covering their hands.
"Cane and a turtle, going to slip and fall. Who's behind you know, are they big or small?"
Kisara blinked, once, twice and then realization crossed her eyes. She remembered her mother mentioning a game, but she hasn't seen anyone play it, until now. A smile came on her lips when she noticed the children from the village look in her direction.
A boy, about her brother's age at least, smiled at her and motioned her forwards. "C'mon Kisara-chan, how about you come and play with us?" His sister had joined in and motioned her to them as well.
Kisara would've gone, that was until she walked into her brother, who was currently standing in her way. "Onii-chan," she muttered, rubbing her nose when she bumped into him.
He didn't look in her direction, his black brows furrowed in annoyance, yet they relaxed when he heard her voice. "Haha-ue and Chichi-ue want you home now. We will be having rice and fried fish so if you want some you better come along."
Kisara opened her mouth to speak to the other kids that called for her, but when she turned to look in their way, they were gone. Her smile turned into a frown when she didn't notice them there.
Makoto had been lazily perched up in a branch, vigilantly looking after his younger sister, being the protective brother that he was. The Inu- hanyō would fear that a demon would appear out of no where and grab her and hurt her.
He heard somethings that his sister may not have picked up on. Being that Kisara wasn't paying much attention to what her ears can pick up, he growled at the suggestions the children had said.
"How 'bout we ask the half demon if she wants to play," the daughter of a village man said, her father that didn't take to kindly of demons staying in Kaede's village, told her older brother.
"Sure and after that when we say what we need to, sing the song and circle 'round her, then we'll leave her," her brother had retorted.
Makoto let out a sigh when he turned around and left, leaving Kisara confused and she trailed behind him.
"I thought you and Chichi-ue would be going to Totosai-san's," Kisara said, now walking beside her brother. Makoto side-glanced at his sister, watching as she looked up and trotted next to him.
"Not yet, at least, not before you were home and staying there," he smirked when seeing her gasp and pout at the news.
Kisara crossed her arms, angrily and semi-upset with her father. "That's not fair." The girl had commented when she realized she wasn't going with them to the little trip to the swordsmith.
Makoto let out a small laugh, his blue eyes glued to the grass they stepped on, its soft but prickly feeling under his feet made him grin. "Life's unfair sometimes little sister."
He heard his sister groaned in fury, muttering 'unfair' and 'how mean' under her breath. Her hands were clenched in fists and she walked faster ahead of him.
Makoto picked up his pace and before both siblings knew it, they were racing their way home, both making it into a competition. Kisara's shrill of laughter could be heard from the ears of her parents all the from the hut.
Kisara stuck her foot out a little and tripped her brother, earning a growl and 'gah' from him, causing her to laugh even more.
"That's being cruel and being a cheater!" her brother yelled out as she jumped with all her might and was at least ten feet above the ground.
"….Well, life is unfair sometimes big brother," a sly smirk spread on her face, repeating the words he had said not too long ago. Makoto 'keh-ed' much like his father and dashed forward, finally catching up to her.
"Now lets see who's the winner," Makoto told her, speeding just a foot ahead of her, and hearing her ranting on about being a deceiver. "Boo hoo!" the boy shouted, turning his head, glancing at her for a moment.
Then he crashed into a small tree and he groaned when the side of his face collided with it.
"Oh…does my onii-chan have a boo boo," Kisara said teasingly, while slowing down and grinning cheekily at him, as her eyes glistened with content. Makoto raised his hand - fingers twitching from the hit - and he slid down the bole and rested.
Kisara turned her head to the side, and her eyes widened in shock, there was blood trailing down from the side of his head. "Onii-chan…."
Makoto's eyes gazed over to see his sister with a crestfallen expression,"What?" He questioned, slightly miffed at the emotion and unease. She pointed to where the blood was coming from and she pulled her hand back when he flinched.
"It's nothing. Sure it hurts only a bit, but it'll go away, sooner or later. I may not be as strong as our Chichi-ue, but I am not a weakling, this doesn't bother me. Now, let's go home," Makoto told her.
Kisara blinked once and 'mhm-ed', bobbing her head in agreement. She had again, trotted next to her brother, with a pleasant smile.
"Onii-chan, when you and Chichi-ue go and receive your sword, can I play with it?" She asked, putting on her best puppy dog face, her blue eyes watered pleadingly at her brother.
"No." Makoto said, not wanting her to break his precious sword, or will-be sword when he gets it later on.
"Aw…please?" Kisara asked once more, her eyes gleaming with unshed tears.
"No, no way, Kisara." Makoto covered his ears to hear her plead two more times. The boy groaned all the way home, fortunately happy that they were just arriving, but they were met with other circumstances.
Their father was waiting for them.
And, things didn't look so good for the two siblings when they noticed the look on their father's face.
Both exchanged looks of worry. "I think I'd rather face Sesshoumaru-oji-sama," Kisara told him. Makoto paled,"No way, he is much scarier."
Kisara nodded,"True, but now I'm scared of Chichi-ue, he turning red and it looks like steam is coming out from his ears."
"Run for it?" Makoto suggested. Kisara nodded and taking a head start.
"Oi! You pups better get back here!" Inuyasha bellowed, following right after them. Kagome dusted her hands off and placed them on her hips,"Oh dear."
