OUTTAKE: A VERY UNEXPECTED WEDDING SURPRISE
DPOV
"You may kiss the bride."
Roza looked up at me, a radiant smile on her face. Taking her face in my hands, I pulled her into a passionate kiss. I heard everyone clapping around us. I even heard someone whistling and I was pretty sure it was Ivan. When I pulled away from the kiss, tears of happiness were leaking out of the corner of Rose's eyes. I wiped them away and she hugged me.
"I love you, comrade," she murmured.
"I love you too, Roza," I murmured back, kissing her again.
"Hey, keep it PG rated. There are kids here," Ivan shouted from somewhere behind me.
I reluctantly pulled away from Roza. Taking her hand in mine, we walked out of the church. When Rose threw her bouquet into the crowd, Lissa caught it.
Rose looked over at Christian and grinned. "Looks like you're next."He paled visibly and she started laughing before pulling me to the rented limousine. "Come on, husband. We can't be late for our own party."
"Congratulations. I'm very glad to see that I was wrong about you two."
We'd been receiving people for half an hour at the reception now and it had started to bore me, but I jolted awake when I saw Janine standing in front of me. Rose had told me she'd come to the ceremony, but hadn't been sure if she'd come to the reception, too.
"Thank you," I said, not knowing what else to say. "I'm glad you could make it."
"Where's the boyfriend?" Rose asked. "Didn't he come along?"
"I'm afraid not. He has business to attend to," Janine replied. Then she smiled at her daughter. "I'm really proud of you, Rose. Your father would be proud, too."
Rose let go of my hand and hugged her. "Thank you, Mom. I'm glad you're here."
When she left to talk to my mother, I said to Rose, "You know, I think I'm making progress. Did you hear what she said?"
Rose smiled. "Yeah. Unbelievable, huh?"
"Rose. Rose!" Liam came running up to us in his little suit. "Can I dance with you tonight?"
I chuckled. He was just so crazy about Rose. Ah well, like father, like son.
"Of course!" Rose said with a grin. "But I'm going to dance with your Dad first if you don't mind."
Liam pouted for a moment, but then shrugged. "I guess that's okay," he mumbled. "But not all night, right? Because I really want to dance with you too."
"Just one dance with your Dad and then I'm yours the rest of the evening," Rose promised, winking.
I looked at her, incredulous. "Excuse me? I believe you married me," I said in fake outrage.
Rose stood on her tiptoes and whispered, "I'll be yours – only yours – all night long. Her hand slid down my back to my ass. "If you know what I mean."
I grabbed her hand to stop her from going further before anyone noticed. I couldn't stop the grin spreading across my face, though.
"I think I know what you mean," I whispered back. "And I'm going to hold you to that one."
As the evening progressed, I got more and more anxious to just leave the party and take Rose back to our hotel to have my way with her. I couldn't wait to leave for our honeymoon so we could finally have some privacy. The kids would be staying with my parents so I knew I wouldn't have to worry about them. They'd be fine without Rose and me for a week. I would miss them, though.
I watched Rose and Liam dance with a smile on my face. It was really adorable to see. After the song had ended, Rose came up to me. Liam had run off to play with his sisters.
"Hey, have you seen Viktoria?" she asked.
"No, I haven't seen her in a while. And I haven't seen Ivan either," I said, looking around the room.
Something flashed across her face, but I couldn't tell what it was. "Oh," she said, looking nervous all of a sudden. "Well, they've got to be here somewhere. I'm sure they'll turn up later."
I studied her for a moment. "What's wrong?"
She wouldn't look at me. "What do you mean?" Changing the subject, she said, "I should probably go and see if-"
I grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Why are you acting so weird? Why are you nervous?"
"I'm not!" she replied. "I just-" She glanced at the exit. "I'm hungry. I'll be right back."
She practically ran away from me. I followed her to the buffet.
"Rose, what's going on?" I demanded. "Why did you get so nervous when I mentioned I couldn't find Ivan either?"
She looked at the floor. "Umm…"
And then I realized it. "Oh my God… You aren't saying that Ivan and Vika…?"
"I didn't say anything," Rose said quickly, looking up at me with wide eyes.
"I can't believe this!" I exclaimed. "Where are they?"
She shrugged. "I don't know. Otherwise I wouldn't have asked where Vika was."
"I'm going to-"
"Please, Dimitri, don't make a scene," Rose pleaded, placing her hand on my arm.
"Don't make a scene?" I repeated. "My best friend is using my little sister!"
"It's not like that. It's-"
"I'm going to find them."
Since they weren't here, there were only two more places they could be. Outside or in the bathroom. I checked the bathroom first. When I couldn't find them there, I went outside. Rose ran after me.
"Dimitri, please don't be mad," she said.
"I'm not mad. I just want to find them and talk to them."
"I know you're mad. I can see it."
"I'm not mad," I argued. "I'm-"
I'd reached the parking lot and stopped abruptly when I noticed two people heavily making out in a car.
Ivan's car.
Dammit!
"You know what, I am mad!" I said, clenching my jaw as I strode to the car. I knocked hard on the driver's window. Ivan and Vika pulled away from each other, startled.
"What the hell?" I shouted as I tore open the door. "What do you think you are doing with my little sister?"
"Dimitri, it's not what you think," Ivan stammered, holding his hands up in surrender. Vika moved out of his lap and got out of the car.
"Not what I think?" I said angrily. "You're fooling around with my sister in your car!"
"Dimka, calm down," Vika pleaded, tugging at my arm.
I turned to look at her. "Are you crazy, Vika? You know this guy never stays with a girl. He dumps them after he's gotten what he came for."
"It's not like that, Dimitri, I swear," Ivan said, getting out of the car too. Viktoria moved to stand beside him and held onto his hand. "I'm not just fooling around with Vika. I care about her."
"That's bullshit! You're just saying that so you can get laid!" I growled. "You can have any woman and you go for my sister? I thought you were my best friend!"
I was about to grab him by the collar when Rose stepped in front of Ivan.
"Dimitri, calm down!" she ordered. "You're making a scene! Now shut up before people realize something's wrong."
I shut up. She looked pissed off. I didn't understand why she was angry at me, though. I didn't do anything wrong. Ivan was the problem here. Not me.
"Now let Ivan explain," Rose said when I'd calmed down enough.
I crossed my arms and glared at my so-called best friend. "You've got two minutes before I beat the crap out of you."
"Dimitri!" Rose chastised, scowling at me. "Stop it! I don't want you two fighting on my wedding day!"
"Sorry, Roza," I murmured, giving her an apologetic look.
"Dimitri, I'm really sorry you had to find out like this," Ivan said, looking sincere. "I wanted to tell you sooner, but I knew you were going to react like this because it's Vika we're talking about and I know how protective you are of her," he rambled. "And I understand, really, she's your sister, but… I really like her, Dimitri. I'm not just fooling around with her. I'm… I'm in love with her. And well… I guess I was just waiting for the right moment to tell you. I'm sorry."
I studied him for a long time. I knew when Ivan was lying; he would blink with his eyes and he'd look every way except mine. But not this time. Now he was looking right at me.
Taking a deep breath, I said, "So… You're in love with my sister?"
"Yes," he said firmly.
I looked at Viktoria, who was still holding on to Ivan. "What about you?"
"I love him too," she whispered.
I sighed, defeated. "How long has this been going on?"
"A few months now," Viktoria replied. "It just… It just happened." She sighed. "I'm sorry Dimka. Ivan is right. We really wanted to tell you, but yeah… You always overreact when it comes to me."
I frowned. "I'm sorry. I just don't want you to get hurt."
"I won't hurt her," Ivan promised.
I glared at him. "You better not or I'm going to kill you. Best friend or not."
He paled and nodded quickly. "I won't screw up, I swear."
I looked at Rose. "And how long have you known about them?"
"Not that long, actually," she said. "I wanted to tell you, but they asked me not to. Not until after our wedding."
"So does everyone know?" I asked, outraged.
"Pretty much," Vika replied, looking uncomfortable.
I looked at her in disbelief. "Mama too? And she didn't say anything of this?"
"She said that if I'm happy, she's fine with it," Vika said smiling.
"Oh. Well, there's not much I can do about it, I guess," I muttered, annoyed that I was the last to know. "You're an adult after all and if Mama approves…"
"I'm really sorry we didn't tell you, Dimitri," Ivan said, giving me an apologetic look.
"Yeah, well, you're lucky my wife was here to stop me or I would've strangled you," I grumbled. "And just so you know, I'm not too happy about this. But… I'm going to accept it."
Ivan looked relieved. "Thanks, man. That means a lot to me."
"Yeah, but if you hurt my sister," I warned, "I'll-"
"I won't. I promise," Ivan said quickly. "I changed. Really, I'm in it for the long run."
"I hope you're telling the truth," I muttered.
"Okay," Rose said after a few moments of silence. "If I were you, I'd go back inside, Ivan. You too, Viktoria."
They nodded and hurried back to the party that was still going on inside. I couldn't help but notice they were holding hands.
I sighed and turned to look at Roza. "Do I really overreact when it comes to Vika?"
She shrugged. "Sometimes you do," she admitted. "In this case, yes."
I scoffed. "Really? Because this is Ivan we're talking about. Do you honestly think he's going to stay with Viktoria?"
She smiled. "Yeah, I do. You're his best friend, Dimitri. You honestly think he'd risk losing your friendship so he can have a fling with her? No, he's serious about her."
I hadn't thought about that yet. She could be right. Honestly, I hoped she was right.
"That makes sense," I said after a pause.
Her smile widened and she wrapped her arms around my neck, pecking my lips. "We should probably go back inside."
I glanced at Ivan's car. It was still unlocked. "How about we have our own little makeout session before going back inside?" I said grinning.
Rose gasped and slapped my chest lightly. "We can't do that. Our guests are inside waiting for us."
"They can wait a little longer," I said with a shrug, pushing her against the car and pressing my lips against hers.
She giggled against my lips. "It seems you're a little impatient today, comrade." She allowed me one more kiss and then pushed me away. "You're going to have to wait a little bit longer for that, though." I pouted and she laughed. "Don't look at me like that, comrade. We'll have a whole week to make up for it," she added, winking.
She grabbed my hand and we started walking back.
"Have I told you yet how beautiful you look?" I murmured. With the white gown she was wearing and the radiant smile on her face, she looked like an angel.
She leaned into my side and I let go of her hand to wrap my arm around her waist. "Hmm. I think you mentioned it once or twice," she said with a smile.
"That's not nearly enough," I said, pulling her to a stop. "Especially not on such a special day like this." I leaned in, kissing her lips softly. "You're the most beautiful bride ever, Roza."
Rose was actually blushing now, which put a smile to my face. "Stop it, comrade. You're making me shy."
I grinned and kissed her again. "And I'm sorry about my little outburst," I added, looking at her apologetically. "I shouldn't have reacted like that. I'm sorry. It just came as a total surprise. I had no clue that Vika was seeing Ivan all this time."
"It's okay. I understand why you got angry," she said, giving me a small smile. "But I'm glad you're trying to accept their relationship."
"Yeah, well, I know what it's like when people don't accept your relationship," I said, thinking back to the time her mother had tried to tear us apart.
She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against mine. "I love you."
I smiled against her lips. "I love you too, Roza."
"Let's go inside now," she said, taking my hand and lacing our fingers together. "I'm starting to get cold out here."
"Okay," I said, following her back inside and into the crowd. I spotted Vika and Ivan in the back of the room, holding hands and talking to each other.
"Let's hope there won't be any more surprises waiting for me tonight," I muttered to myself as I turned away from them. Just then, Rose grabbed my hand again and pulled me onto the dance floor.
"I heard what you said," she murmured into my ear, "and I have to say that I do have one more surprise for you tonight."
"Hmm. Really?"
"It has to do with our wedding night so I think you're going to like it," she whispered, pressing her lips against my neck.
I smirked and pulled her close. "Oh, I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it."
