what's this, you ask? well, it is a bonus chapter! my computer crashed a while back and took with it a bunch of my chapters. i forgot to re-write this one, and it is one of my favorites, Newkirk discovering things, Newkirk being a nice guy... the whole shebang

it takes place right between chapters 9 and 10, so it's chapter 9 and 3/4.

FADE IN. EXT. NIGHT. DERYN, ALEK and NEWKIRK are sitting around a fire. DERYN is more or less asleep with her head resting on ALEK's shoulder and a blanket haphazardly draped over her. NEWKIRK eyes them both suspiciously.

NEWKIRK

Sharp seems comfortable.

ALEK turn his head to look at her and smiles a little

NEWKIRK

And you're okay with him just, sleeping on you?

ALEK

I don't really mind- I mean, a lot has happened today,

so it's okay if I'm his pillow for a while.

NEWKIRK pull his head back to face the fire and ALEK does the same, both a little embarrassed with where the conversation went.

NEWKIRK(clearing his throat)

So, Alek, I was wondering why you gave up your crown?

ALEK(a little taken aback)

What brought that up?

NEWKIRK shrugs. And goes back to staring at the fire.

NEWKIRK

I figured there must've been a really good reason, is all

ALEK (glancing sideways at DERYN)

Yes, there was.

NEWKIRK sees the glance that ALEK cast at DERYN. He swallows and looks back at the fire before ALEK sees that NEWKIRK saw.

NEWKIRK

Was it a girl?

ALEK (laughs a little)

Yes, I guess it was.

NEWKIRK takes a deep breath and rubs his had together, obviously feeling awkward in this situation.

NEWKIRK (trying to relieve the awkward with a scoff )

Well, she must've been something special.

ALEK didn't catch that NEWKIRK was trying to imply that he was on to ALEK and DERYN's secret, forbidden love

ALEK (smiles softly at the fire)

Yes, I suppose she was.

NEWKIRK shoots ALEK a look, like, "dude, bro I know I know she, is him". But ALEK misses seeing it. A/N: yeah I know that was a bit too modern, but I wrote it as a joke and I fell in love with it. Sorry.

DERYN's head rolls off ALEK's shoulder and she jerks awake with a snort. She wipes the drool off her face, then sees that there is quite a deal more on ALEK's shoulder. DERYN awkwardly tries to wipe that off.

DERYN

How long did I sleep?

NEWKIRK

Not long, but you were very comfortable.

DERYN (snorts in laughter)

Aye, I can see that (gesturing to ALEK's drool covered shoulder)

ALEK laughs and takes the blanket that was draped over DERYN and dries off his coat.

FADE OUT .
