"Sesshoumaru, what a pleasant surprise, it has been quite some time since you visited your mother," InuKimi said, smiling as she clasped her hands over the other, seated on her chair. The daiyōkai demoness stared at her only child and son.

"Mother, explain to me why." It wasn't something he inquired, he demanded her to inform him why she had wanted to test the pup. Raising her chin only an inch higher, InuKimi arched a brow, gazing at her son with such intensity, yet the emotions played in her eyes was that of disloyalty.

"There is nothing to be said Sesshoumaru, do you not realize what she is doing?" Obviously the statement was directed at his aunt, Nishiyo. "She is trying to accept something in this clan that should and shall not be accepted in the future. She is not fit for command my son."

"Do you desire power mother? Is it envy you feel?" Sesshoumaru questioned her, suddenly all the revelations clearing like a fog, decapitated by her words. Apparently his words struck anger in her and she growled.

InuKimi stood up onto her feet in a flash, golden eyes now blazing a deathly red. "Not only do those abominations you call your nephew and niece taint our clan, but she as well." She despised the matter of the pups that were cared for and not treated like they were supposed to.

Pausing to see the countenance of her son, curiosity etched on his face, InuKimi continued. "She is changing things that aren't meant to be changed. I've always seen to it that I'd be the lady of the clan, being that your father was head of it and the great Inu no Taisho. However, the elders had chosen her for being the oldest, as Rikuto-onii-san wasn't fit for the proper title."

"Such hatred for your sister-in-law," Nishiyo walked in the room gracefully. Her eyebrows thinned and her eyes emotionless as she reached a short distance between herself and InuKimi.

"Nishiyo." InuKimi spat, lips thinned at the sight of the dog demoness. "You've arrived sooner than I had planned." Aware of the statement, the said dog demoness eyes narrowed. Nishiyo knew that her dear sister-in-law loathed the fact that she was given the title, higher than her rank.

Nishiyo gave her a curt nod, pivoting to the side to take a few steps then began to pace. "Planned you say, hmm." The dog demoness began to piece the puzzle together in her mind. She planned it all just to get rid of my brother's bloodline.

"Sesshoumaru my son, why don't you step outside for a moment. I will have a word with your oba-san." InuKimi strictly told her son, her golden eyes switched to watch her son.

Sesshoumaru gazed at his mother, however, his eyes moved towards his aunt. "Go on Sesshoumaru, we won't be hostile to one another, more of a terse discussion. I know how much you worry for your mother, I kept my word, but you must keep yours Sesshoumaru."

"My agreement could be easily broken for they are just words. What has my mother done Nishiyo-oba-sama." Sesshoumaru questioned his aunt, she stared at him coldly, not for him disrespecting her, but not seeing the truth in all that has happened.

Nishiyo clasped one hand over the other in front of her. "Sesshoumaru, can you explain why all of a sudden we have an issue with the panther demons?" He did not retort to her question and so she continued. "It would appear that your Okaa-sama had made a pact with them."

InuKimi let out a haughty laugh,"Surely you are just making a jesting comment. Come now Nishiyo, why in all the heavens above would I make a compromise with those…cats."

"Sesshoumaru…leave," Nishiyo said, her nostrils flared and her golden eyes blazed with fury. The young lord, for one such as him, feared in all the lands, but he knew that once his aunt had beckoned him to do an order, it is unacceptable to go against her wish.

He stopped at the doorway, casting a glance at his mother, his eyes narrowing. He noticed the fear in her eyes. Sesshoumaru detested to be controlled by his aunt, but he respected her.

"Ouch, you're getting a little feisty there, my little baby." Kagome rubbed her protruding belly affectionately. Kaede looked up from her cauldron to stare at the young miko.

Kagome let out a little laughter, blue eyes glazed with happiness,"Don't mind me Kaede-obaa-chan. The baby is just kicking is all, he could be a tough little pup to look after." Kaede nodded and smiled at her.

"Aye child, ye seem to be content, it is all over ye's face and aura." Kaede turned to the side to mixed her soup with the wooden spoon she held in her hand. "Would you like me to-" Kagome stopped and turned to look at the door flap that moved on its own.

"Something wrong child?" Kaede asked, her eyebrows lowering in concern for her and her well being, especially since she was expecting a baby.

Kagome frowned only just a little. "I don't know Kaede-obaa-chan, its just that…I have this weird feeling, I think it's my motherly instinct. I can't describe it, but Makoto is with Inuyasha, and Kisara is with the twins."

She turned to stare at the older miko who grimly gazed at her hands, but there is was again, the door flap had slowly moved as if it were swayed by the wind. However the day didn't seem to be as windy to cause it to move on its own.

"Kagome-chan…" A figure then entered to the hut, slowly and weakly. Kagome smiled but then as quick as her smile came, it faded. "We were attacked by the river…" the figure said. She hastily rose to her feet as fast as she could, seeing Harumi standing by the door flap, her clothing torn and dried blood on her kimono.

Screams had then followed when the woman's knees buckled and she fell first, but turned before she can meet the wooden floor, revealing the big bundle she held in her arms to be Naoko, wounded much more than her mother.

The village men as they could hear from inside the hut, revealed the situation to be demons that were in search of something important. "K-Kaede-sama," Kagome mumbled, trying to use the herbs they had collected that day to grind them up to create a cream of the sort to heal the wounds and prevent an infection.

"Aye child, I will get them bandaged up. Let Sango and Miroku handle the demons, guard the door, do not let the demons intrude." Kaede hurried as she slowly placed the young hanyō child next to her mother.

"Kaede-baa-chan…" Naoko whispered, her wounds pained her greatly, tears clouded her vision but she can see the silhouette of the older miko.

"Hush child, ye need to keep ye's strength," Kaede told the girl. Naoko shook her head,"Mama's gone…I see…Otou-san." Kagome gaped at the young half demon's words, but they were true, Harumi had passed but had managed to bring Naoko to be healed, but at the cost of losing her life in the process.

Anger crossed in the young miko's eyes as a trio of demons, snickering and chuckling in her direction, claiming that she was weak. Hit the mark. She held her bow in her hand, pulling back the arrow notched on, letting it go.

A blazing glow of pink came from her arrow, hitting the shoulder of one of the demons, then it had exploded into ashes. The death of the demon attracted the others, staring at her with wide eyes."That's the priestess she was talking about, get her!" The leader had shouted, sending another group of demons to charge in her direction.

An ordinary woman, The thought causing him to look back at the time when he and Kikyo were friends, then tragic lovers.

"Kikyo-sama was important to you, Chichiue, wasn't she?" Makoto asked his father, craning his head to the side to see a mournful emotion in his father's eyes. "Hn…she was the first friend and person who cared for me, before your mama came into my life. I cared for her, but she lost her life."

Makoto nodded, the subject over the deceased priestess was difficult for his father to say. He had spoken of her before, he and his mother had when it was a day that they visited her grave. Makoto knew that his father had loved her, Kikyo still held a place in his heart, like any other person or demon would if they had lost a loved one.

Inuyasha snapped his head to the side, the direction of the wind changed and he began to pick up a few smells.

His nose caught the scent of some demons in the village and in the forest. His eyes widened at the realization of what type of demons they were.

"Chichiue?" Makoto asked, turning his head in the direction his father was keeping watch.

"Panther demons…" Makoto mumbled and nearly jumped out of his skin when his father carried him from the back of his kariginu.

"Be a good little puppy and surrender, you are far too weak to challenge me, half-breed." The demon chuckled and straightened, its long orange tail flicking back and forth behind him.

Kisara merely smirked and flexed her hands to sharpen her small, yet deadly claws. "I am not intimidated by you and I don't care what you call me."

The demon charged in lightning speed, claws raised in a striking position to take her down. Kisara growled lowly and jumped out of the way to prevent herself from getting injured. "You have to try better than that," she taunted.

She was told by her uncle that she needed to keep a watchful eye of the demons, mainly the ones who smelt like cats, the panther demons. Kisara recalled the scent she smelled when she and her mother, including her brother, were walking near the Goshinboku. Her father was speaking to her Lady Kaede if there was anything she needed in order to prevent such a problem that happened to her brother.

The panther demon snarled at her. "Shut up you half-breed, once I'm through with you, I'll have to kill your family. Especially your mother, she is-" Kisara punched him in the face.

Kisara winced as she managed to scrap her knuckles on the panther demon's fang that poked out from his bottom lip. It wasn't common for girls to fight, excluding her Aunt Sango since she was a demon slayer, but in this purpose, to fight for her life it was necessary.
