I hope you guys like it and that it's worth the wait!
The atmosphere of the apartment was easily the eeriest in the time Lavi and Kanda had lived together. Even at his deadliest, Kanda had at least made it apparent that he was another live body, although brooding and angry. Now, even with two more members, the house was seemingly dead, both Kanda and Lavi, when and if they interacted, would only nod and mumble one or two things at most to the other.
Kanda spent most of the week in his room beside Allen, when he wasn't asleep on the couch or snacking on something. Lavi was similar, only sitting beside Tyki with the clammy hand clasped firmly between his own, deep purple rings under his terrified and tired eyes.
"Lavi," Kanda's monotonous voice floated through the doorway, his knuckles rapping against the wooden door, "switch."
"I've got five more minutes," the other mumbled quietly, his mouth muffled in the crook of his arm.
"If you keep taking these five minutes, you're going to overdo yourself-"
"I KNOW, KANDA!"
The Japanese jolted at the volume of the voice, his jaw tightening at the words as he did his best not to let the final shreds of sanity he had left after the days of sleep deprivation.
"Too late," Kanda whispered, his body moving over to the rabbit, his hands reaching to gently pull the other away, "c'mon."
"Kanda-"
"I've told you every time we switched shifts for the past week, if something happens, I'll let you know," the Japanese murmured, gentler than he expected, "now come on, get some rest."
"But-"
"Come on."
Their fatigue and frayed nerves had made both of their mood swings unpredictable, but, thankfully, when Lavi was as drained as he was, it was easier for Kanda to convince him of something.
"Now stay in bed for the next six hours," Kanda ordered, watching as Lavi curled under a white blanket.
"Kay," the redhead mumbled, "but-"
"For the last time; if something happens, I'll let you know," the other sighed exasperatedly, "now bed."
"Right," Lavi nodded, his head hitting the pillow and his eyes beginning to droop dangerously, "Kanda?"
"Just get some sleep-"
"I screwed up."
Kanda froze at the words, his eyes turning to look down at the other, the exhausted body shaking in terror.
"I've ruined everything…"
Again, silence as Kanda didn't respond, just stood over the tired other, watching as he crumbled ones more.
"What have I done!?" Lavi screamed as he broke down for the hundredth time, his hands over his eyes and his knees to his chest, "WHAT HAVE I DONE!?"
Knowing that nothing he would say would ease the pain of what Lavi considered his greatest failure, Kanda pulled the sheets over the shivering body and sat with him while the tears subsided and his exhausted body succumbed to what promised to be a fitful sleep.
It had happened before, Lavi's exhaustion taking him to the breaking point, resulting in him breaking down in tears and collapsing. On each occasion, Kanda did nothing but watch and leave him to his grief, knowing that nothing said or done could be comfort for the rabbit.
Just like with him and Allen.
Feet stopped in front of his own room where Allen, now dressed and looking as though he had turned in for the night, his face peaceful and his chest rising slowly with each breath. Since falling into a coma, Allen hadn't stirred once, at least, not that Kanda knew of.
Kanda sighed deeply as he sat on the edge of the bed, his fingers adjusting the covers over Allen's body for what must've been the umpteenth time. Jaw twitching, the elder seemed at a complete loss, unable to do nothing more than check in on the others. A few times over the recovery, Tyki's heart had acted up, changing from erratic and fast to flat line. Each time Kanda and Lavi had worked desperately to restart it or calm it, depending on the situation.
If the first few months with Allen hadn't made him proficient in medical equipment, Kanda figured he could've applied for a licence to practice medicine with all the things he had helped Lavi with over the past week.
Save for the few moments, there wasn't much to do when Kanda was watching over Tyki alone. Lavi would sit and talk with him, going on about a trivial things, the number of clouds in the sky, he birds passing the window, or he'd read to the other, various first editions in various languages. Kanda, on the other hand, didn't know him, only staying in the room when Lavi was awake and could insist on it.
"Damn," Kanda whispered as he stole a moment to lie beside his moyashi, the rhythmic beeping of the machines from the other room relaxing him. He too couldn't deny his exhaustion, six hours barely enough time to get a restful sleep, even without anxiety knotting in a ball in his stomach. "What the hell are we gonna do moyashi?"
His question was, unsurprisingly, unanswered, Kanda unable to hear even if it was, his eyes having closed and him falling asleep.
A loud beep woke him from his stupor, Kanda jerking up as he ran from the room towards Tyki's, his already cold blood freezing at the sight of the empty bed.
"Tyki?"
Kanda found his voice trembling, wondering just how long he had slept for, and what the hell had happened.
"Tyki!?" the other looked around the room, wondering if he had simply fallen out of bed, "Oi! Tyki!?"
There was still no response from the house, Kanda thinking about just how the body could have moved.
"Lavi!" Kanda growled, thinking that perhaps the final thread in Lavi's psyche had snapped and he was trying to take the vampire to where only Hell would know. "Lav-"
The mystery was short-lived, Tyki's disappearance solved as he saw a large dark form over Lavi's now twitching one. Kanda barely heard the small gasps from Lavi's mouth as he ran to the other two, his hands desperately pulling the elder off his victim.
Tyki's fangs and claws had grown somehow, the fingers long and bony and gripping the tops of the younger's arms, blood from the wound in the pale neck soaking the collar of Lavi's white shirt. Miraculously, Kanda managed to get his sword between his finger and between the two on the couch, the blade able to force the creature off the hunter.
In his many years of life Kanda had done as he was created, killing and hunting vampires. He thought he had seen all kinds and types, from the newborns to some of the Noah. This, however, this thing that had been forced to the carpeted ground, was nothing like he had ever seen before.
Its skin was grey and its eyes were darker than coal, and just as lively. Tyki's hair was matted around his face, wild and crazy, his teeth large and protruding past his lip.
Lavi was on the couch, coughing as his hands gripped the crook of his neck, blood slipping past his fingers.
"Tyki…" the younger whimpered, "T-Tyki-"
"Lavi stay with me," Kanda informed the other, his sword brandished and his eyes weary of the creature withering on the floor.
"Brother…"
The voice managed to send chills down even Kanda's spine, its body seemingly moving in unnatural position as it rocked back and forth.
"Brother… Brother-"
"Kanda-"
A hand gripped his black pants, Lavi's body rolling to look at the other.
"Don't… please don't-"
"BROTHER!?"
Lavi's words of pleading were cut off as the blood-thirsty beast left the carpet and leapt towards them, the tip of Kanda's blade still pointed towards it.
"… no…"
Lavi's final image of his once lover was of the malicious beast seemingly leaping to his death at the point of the swordsman's katana, before the blood loss from his neck took him to unconsciousness.
The scene was blindingly white when the green eyes slowly fluttered open, his mind heavy and his thoughts spinning wildly.
"Figures; the only time you get a good night sleep in this scenario is if you're knocked unconsciousness."
The red hair turned to look at the blurry figure of his so-called friend, the long hair swishing around his back as he looked over whatever had caught his attention.
"Kan…"
"Please don't speak," Kanda grumbled, "I've enjoyed the past day without you speaking."
"Always pleasant," Lavi bleated out a quiet laugh, "wait… day?"
"Whatever the vampire did to you, he got you good," the other pressed, his mug of tea in his hands, "you were knocked out for about a day."
"A…"
Fingers reached to his neck, a large bandage over what he remembered was a rather vicious bite. He had been sleeping, his dreams rather uncomfortable, when something was over top of his body, something gripping his arms tightly and something even worse plunging into his neck. His eyes had opened to the beast that was within Tyki, hungrily attacking him for his blood. He couldn't even scream, his throat had been paralyzed in fear.
"Tyki…"
Kanda looked up as the body began shuffling in panic, his head looking around and his lips quivering.
"Wh-Where's Tyki? Where-Where-What-"
"No, down," Kanda told him, his hands pressing on the other's shoulders, pinning him down to the couch, "I don't think you've got all your blood back and you're still woozy-"
"Where is Tyki?!" Lavi asked him, "what happened-what did you do!?"
"He's not dead!"
The words hung in the air, Lavi nearly fainting as relief crashed into him like a wave.
"Wh… Wh-"
"After you passed out, he and I had a bit of a fight, he cracked his head on something hard, and didn't move after that," he lifted his lips to the cup, "I got him back to his bed and he's fine, hasn't moved since."
"S-So he's-he's-"
"As alive as a comatose person can be," Kanda muttered, Lavi's mouth opening before he finally got a good look at the other.
Kanda's eyes had even darker rings under his eyes, the lack of sleep making it look like he hadn't eaten in a month; Kanda was as far gone as Lavi was.
"Where is he?" Lavi finally whispered, "where's Tyki?"
"I told you, in your bed, in your room," Kanda looked up to the other that began moving, "no, you are staying down-"
"I'll be in a chair, next to him," the other told him, wavering slightly as he stood, needing to sit back down, "in a minute."
"Lavi-"
"I'm okay."
"You've just gotten over from massive blood loss," the Japanese snapped, "what the Hell did you do? Down a bottle of Aspirin?"
"Every night before bed," the rabbit grumbled, "now help me to my room."
Thanks to Kanda's sleep deprivation, Lavi had managed to convince the other to help him to his room, his body lounging in a chair with his fingers in Tyki's hand, his thumb rubbing over the dark skin.
"I'm giving you three hours," Kanda told him, "then you are getting back to bed."
It didn't even take three hours before fatigue took over and Lavi's head hit the mattress and he was resting peacefully, only to be woken by a slight tugging on the hand in Tyki's.
"Hey…" Tyki whispered, his tongue feeling thick as he swallowed slowly, his thumb responding to the hand clutching his, the pale skin on the back of Lavi's hand brushed gently.
"H-Hey," Lavi murmured, his lower lip quivering slightly as he held back his emotions, "h-how are you feeling?"
"… Terrible…" the vampire swallowed thickly, his lungs gasping for air with a pained expression, "what about… you?"
"I-I'm fine-"
"You… look… like you're… about to cry," Tyki rasped, "… since when… are you… so emotional-"
Lavi leaned in to touch the other's heaving chest, the vampire gasping for what little air he could, his face scrunched in agony and sweat beading on his forehead.
"Tyki-"
"O… Okay…" the vampire gasped, "I-I'm okay…"
"You had a bit of an eventful night last night," Lavi confessed quietly, "it's understandable."
Without a word, the gold eyes looked over the other, his orbs resting on the wound he had caused.
"It was real?"
Long fingers shakily reached to run over the bandage on Lavi's neck, a look of guilt crossing his lips.
"This… really happened?"
"What do you mean?" Lavi pressed, "Tyki?"
"Dreamt that… that… you were dead… cause of me…" his Adam's apple bobbing thickly, "didn't… didn't think I actually…"
"It wasn't you," the younger tried to assure him, "it was the thing… the thing we're trying to kill…"
"Trying?" the vampire pressed, his head turning to look at the other, "my voice… it's quieter… than it's ever… been…"
"Wh-What-"
"I think… you're winning…"
It was only the first of many days which Tyki woke and spoke to them, slowly becoming stronger with each passing day, even managing to begin eating. Lavi wasn't as reactive as Kanda thought he would be, his surprise dashed when on the fifth day when Lavi all but leapt into Tyki's arms sobbing. It turns out that the vaccine had been effective, eradicating the virus in his bloodstream.
"So… it worked?" Kanda asked, hating the hope budding in his heart, watching as Tyki tried to gently push his lover off of him, his own face betraying his hope.
"I think so," Lavi nodded, "but… I'll need to test bone marrow… for now. I mean, this could just be slowing it down-"
"But it slows it down," the Japanese finished, "that means-"
"I've got another dose here," the other finished, his fingers brandishing the vial of blue serum, to Tyki, "I'll be right back."
A quick peck on the lips before the rabbit practically bounced out the room in glee.
"Hard to believe he went from breaking down every second to this," Kanda muttered, glancing to Tyki who pulled his lunch towards him.
"I suppose," the old vampire nodded, his next forkful raised to his lips.
"Promise not to die in the next few minutes?" the younger asked as he stood.
"Only the good die young," Tyki sang.
"So you'll be here forever," Kanda muttered bitterly, Tyki's snappy comeback silenced by a loud crash.
"The Hell was that!?"
"Stay here!" Kanda ordered as he wrenched open the door, his run stopped with the sigh of Lavi crumpled in the hallway, a rather large dent in the wall.
A crunch forced him to look up to the other stepping from Allen's room, the pale figure looking down at the damage he caused, his eyes impassive.
"M… Moy… a… Moyashi?"
The face turned to him, no longer with an annoyingly stupid smile, but a terrifyingly dangerous face which slowly pulled into a sickly sweet smile.
"Good Morning, Kanda Yuu."
Phew... so? what did you guys think? Reviews please ^^
