Author's Note

Wow, it has a while since I've updated. But no worries minna-san, I have the chapters ready. I've been doing a lot of planning for the final events of Baby's First. This story will be finished on it's one year anniversary. So I'll leave it off here and let you read the chapter.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, but I do own Makoto, Kisara, Naoko, Jirou and Izayoi.

It was early in the evening and two figures laid on the grass and stared up as the noticed the stars appearing and glistening over the dark-blue sky. Both half-demons waiting for the moment when they could be called in to eat.

"That one looks like a scared rabbit," Naoko said aloud, her arms stretched out to her sides. The grass tickled her face and she grinned at the funny feeling it had caused. "What do you think Makoto-kun?"

The said inu-hanyō was opposite to her was laying down with his arms crossed under his head. "Looks like Shippou-oniichan to me." He had muttered when he noticed the figure outlined by the luminary lights above.

The brown-haired hanyō squinted to see if he were correct, connecting the stars again to get the picture he had mention. Opening her mouth to disagree, that was when she saw it and began to laugh hysterically.

Makoto smirked when the girl suddenly let out bouts of laughter. "My chichiue said that he used to get scared whenever they will be fighting bad demons."

Naoko shook her head and turned to glance to the hut that was only feet away and noticed a figure walking to and fro around the entrance of the hut. No doubt that the pup's mother was watching over them for their safety. "Your Okaa-san is very nice. I've heard stories about her many times, but Kaede-sama mentioned that she was from another world. Is that true?"

Using his arms to sit up straight, Makoto nodded at her words. "I've seen it once and I hated how it smelled like."

"Smelled?" She said, brows knitting in confusion as to why he had said that. The worst smell she has smelt was of an oni and it wasn't because of how their scent was, it was rather a gas that it had let out once which wasn't such a good thing to think about. "Was it that bad?" Naoko questioned in confusion.

Scrunching his nose in disgust at the remembrance of the horrid stench of what his mother calls 'pollution,' he gave her a curt nod. "It is, since you can't smell anything right. There is no forest and everything is big, no huts are anywhere but there are these big houses that looks like stones and the ground is gray."

Imagining a world with such features, although it was quite difficult to picture in her mind, Naoko shivered. "That doesn't sound very pleasant and sounds horrible, I don't think I can live in such a place." Makoto nodded in agreement. The first time falling into the 'world' his mother came from, the smells made his head swirl.

Both heads moved to the hut when a voice called out for them. As dog ears swiveled and flicked at the voice, at the same time a pair of light-pink flower like ears twitched.

"Makoto, Naoko-chan! Come inside for dinner!" Kagome shouted from the shoji door of the hut, a wash cloth was in her hands as she observed them from inside. She kept an eye on her son and on her younger children that were resting comfortably on the futon she had placed them on.

Izayoi was reaching upwards to the ceiling, her little hands clenching into tight fists when she knew she couldn't reach it. The young pup out a tiny growl to let the occupants in the hut hear her frustration.

During the afternoon Izayoi began to get better, her fever was nearly diminished and the infant began to eat more like usual.

As for little Jirou, he rested on his stomach and started to kick madly and fuss around. He had also started to noises that made the young mother know that there was something he needed. Kagome quickly served two bowls of rice and glanced in the direction of her youngest son. She also noticed the swollen appearance in his diaper and she giggled to herself.

"Looks like you need a diaper change," Kagome muttered and trekked over him to pick him up and rested him comfortably in her arms, his head resting against her shoulder while his hands gripped her raven strands of hair that draped over him.

Makoto entered and dashed toward the smell of the wonderful aroma of cooked rice as Naoko slipped out of the straw sandals and followed suit. "Itadakimasu!" The both of them stated, their mouths watered at the distinctive smell of edible grain.

Kagome glanced at Makoto and smiled,"Sweetie, I will be right back. Please watch Izayoi so I can tend to your brother."

The half-demon child was eating away his rice, nodding his head off into the bowl as he devoured the meal made by his mother. Kagome shook her head knowing fully well that her son would be alert whenever she was in the nursery taking care of one of his younger siblings.

"Here we go," Kagome said, setting her son on the futon. She had the items necessary next to her instead of walking around the room to collect them. Jirou stared at her, wide eyes gazing into her own. Removing the light kosode he wore, Kagome placed them aside and started to work on the dirty diaper.

Little legs kicking energetically, the young miko giggled to herself and lifted his feet and ankles to slip the diaper off from under him. Her left hand moved to her side, her fingers searching for the cloth she brought and after a minute later she did. Cleaning her baby boy and placing the new cleaned diaper on him, Kagome watched as Jirou made gurgling noises when satisfied with the feeling of freshness he felt.

Picking him up with one hand supporting his neck and head while the other was under his bottom, he was held out in front of him, just below her chest. Listening to a new set of baby speaking chatter, she couldn't help but babble along with her son, laughing when his sounds rose when she mimicked him.

"Now how come he doesn't do that when I do it?" Kagome let out a startled squeak when she felt her husband standing behind her, his chin resting on her shoulder to gaze over their son.

He smirked when she felt him elbow him softly at his sudden return. "Maybe he likes his mama more," Kagome said jokingly and laughed when he shot her a fake hurt look, she held her arms out to let her husband hold their son and he gladly took him.

Inuyasha held Jirou in his arms and smiled at his son, he was happy to be home at last. The young pup babbled and gazed into the twin golden-amber pools of his father, his little nose twitching to smell the familiar scent that calmed him. His small hand grasped forward and rested on his father's cheek while the other was tugging at the strand of silver hair.

"But I think he likes you more," he heard his wife say as they walked out of the room to go to where their children played in.

Kisara was looming over her sister and brightened at the sight of her mother and baby brother. "Hahaue!" She ran to embrace her mother and was picked up to be held tightly in her mother's arms like she wanted.

"All went well, yes?" Kagome questioned Inuyasha, wondering if her daughter behaved herself outside of the village. The older dog-demon nodded, confirming his wife's question.

Kagome nuzzled her nose on her daughter's tenderly and the young girl giggled with delight. "I learned something new today mama." Grinning ecstatically at the events that happened earlier that day, happy to know she was able to help a friend of her parents.

"Oh really," Kagome held her daughter and walked over to one of the chairs to place her on it. Kisara bobbed her head. "I can heal!"

The young mother began to look at her daughter carefully, wondering if the young child had gotten hurt when coming or going to the Jinenji's village. She knew that Inuyasha healed fast if he was scratched and it'll only take a day or two if he were injured with a serious wound: like a hole in his stomach.

She looked in Inuyasha's direction and arched a brow, her eyes glazed with concern for her husband and little girl. "Did you run into a demon when going to Jinenji's field?"

Kisara tugged her mother's kosode, her lips pursed when she heard her mother ask her father the question. "No mama, I healed papa's wound, he got hurt by a bad demon on his shoulder that hurt Jinenji's okaa-san and I healed it."

Makoto paused from eating his bowl of rice, peering over the wooden hollow, concave container. Naoko suddenly felt uncomfortable and played with a ribbon she had gotten from Kagome.

Eyes widened in surprise at the news and she walked over to her husband. Her hand going over the visible cut in his robe of the fire rat and she could clearly see no blood soaked around the laceration, making her eyebrows to knit together in confusion which did not ease her worry. "I should get some bandages to-" She was promptly cut off by her loving hanyō with a tug.

"I'm fine, don't worry, our little girl took care of it earlier." Inuyasha retorted taking her hand and moving the appendage away from the rip in his kariginu. Yet when he did so, his grip on her hand didn't loosen and as he stood up he pulled his wife with him so she can be dragged to the next room.

Kagome frowned at the way he was trying to tell her to not look at the wound;however, she couldn't help but be perturbed. She wanted to know whether or not it was infected with any poison a demon could have inflicted it. Kagome knew how stubborn he was. She was just the same whenever there was only a tiny cut on her and he'd overreact.

"Inuyasha," Kagome said strictly, her temper only rising when he keep his hold on her hand and leading her out.

Once they walked into the room he turned around and faced her. "The pup healed it, not only the poison, but the wound as if it wasn't even there."

Kagome let her shoulders slump as he placed his hands on them. "That's not the only thing," he whispered, closing his eyes as he thought back to the events that occurred just before arriving to the village.

Inuyasha didn't know what triggered it or why it happened, he was just very puzzled when it did come to pass. "What is it?" Kagome asked him.

Golden molted eyes clashed with oceanic orbs. Inuyasha shook his head, not knowing what exactly was going on. He would just have to question his aunt if she knew anything over the subject.

Letting out a deep and exhausted sigh, Inuyasha opened his mouth so his wife could hear what he had to tell her. "She had marks on her face when she was passed out. It wasn't there when she healed me and they appeared right after."

Kagome's eyes widened in realization. "She turned into a full demon…"

"Jinenji-san told me that his okaa-san hit papa on the head before we were born with a log," Kisara said, taking a spoon full of broth and putting it in her mouth. Naoko covered her mouth, stifling a laugh as she heard her friend tell the story. Once swallowing the spoonful of soup, Kisara started where she had left off. "I think it was funny when he told me that. He is really nice onii-chan, he let me help him out on his field. Jinenji-san use to be scared of humans but after meeting hahaue, the village people changed."

Makoto walked back inside from cleaning his bowl at the water basin and sat by his youngest sister. He brushed a lock of her dark ebony hair away from her eyes. The touch made the infant sneeze when a strand of hair tickled her nose.

Being an older brother made him very content to know that he was the one who–besides his father–would look after and protect his much younger siblings.

A sudden change in the air made him shiver when he knew that the moon had risen and he knew the feeling on a day such as this. It was the night of the new moon after all.

Putting the palm of his hand on his cheek and his elbow propped on his knees, he glanced in Izayoi's way and smiled as she noticed his features changing. The infant blinked up at the half-demon boy and her face scrunched together, her lips quivered and before any of the occupants in the hut knew it, little Izayoi began to wail.

If Makoto had his super-hearing curtesy of his dog ears which had disappeared because of his night of weakness, they could have been pressed against his skull and burying themselves in his disheveled hair.

He tried calming his sister down but to no prevail, the infant couldn't stop crying until one of her parents came.

Kagome hurried into the main room and picked up the weeping bundle up from the futon and into her arms, positioning her against her chest and letting Izayoi dig her face into her kosode. "Shhh, it's okay…shhh." She remembered her mother telling her one day that making a quiet, soothing 'sh' sound made babies feel as if they were in the uterus, the imitating sound usually calmed them.

Makoto crossed his arms but the expression on his face made his mother know exactly why he was upset over the ordeal. "She was use to seeing you like your father sweetie," Kagome answered with a gentle smile while looking down at her son and her eyes trailing to where a now human Inuyasha stood by the table next to their oldest daughter.

Golden-brown eyes were now wide and round, understanding why Izayoi was so bothered by his transformation.

Kisara glowered at the way she transformed into her human form for the night. The young inu-pup glared at her nails as they shrunk to regular human nails and she reached upwards to feel that her dog ears had disappeared and a pair of human ears rested on the sides of her head.

"Naoko-chan, you are welcome to stay here for the night. It is too late for you to be wandering around the forest at this hour," Kagome told the young half-demon when she watched the girl get up from the chair and walk to the door. Naoko smiled at her and shook her head. "Thank you Kagome-sama, but it is all-right. Thank you for the food it was really good." The young girl bid her goodbyes to both adults and her friends before leaving. It was well over dusk, so it wasn't that dangerous to walk alone. Besides, she could take care of herself just fine because of the latent abilities she had.

Inuyasha watched from the shoji door to see the girl disappear into the forest, he turned and scooped up Kisara. Squealing and laughing with delight, Kisara smiled as she was placed on her father's shoulders. Makoto dashed behind them and smiled up at his father when he had ruffled his affectionately.

Once the older children were placed in their futons, Kagome and Inuyasha closed the shoji door behind them, and walked towards the nursery. Izayoi was slumbering in her mother's hold and dug her head into the warmth provided by her mother.

Inuyasha opened the door for Kagome as they both ambled in to see Jirou wide awake from his nap right after he was changed. "Hey there little guy," Inuyasha whispered, letting his son latch his forefinger. Jirou gurgled up at his father and with his other hand, he played with the light kosode he slept in.

"Izayoi's fever has gone and since their human night ended this morning, I don't think it'll come back," Kagome informed, cradling her daughter to place her in the bassinet.

Jirou, seeing his sister slumbering near him, let go of his father's finger and reach for his mother. Kagome smiled happily and soothed her infant's head with the palm of her hand.

Inuyasha removed the robe of the fire rat when he noticed Kagome pull away and both of the babies faces curl up in an expression that meant that they were going to cry. Their habits of crying in the night was fixed when Inuyasha would let them have his kariginu to sleep for the night.

"You know you're not going to get that back," Kagome whispered as she leaned against her husband. She placed her hand on his chest and sighed happily that Jirou fell asleep quickly right after. Inuyasha wrapped her arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer. "Keh, the pups just missed their old man."

Sniffling a laugh so she wouldn't wake up the slumbering twins, Kagome smiled up at Inuyasha,"Of course they did, as did I and our son."

Taking the hand that was pressed against him, Inuyasha lowered his head down and placed his forehead upon hers.

"Don't worry, I won't be going anywhere any time soon."

"Think of all the problems that will arise Onee-sama!" A dog-demon paced around the room, the palm of his hand rubbing his forehead in frustration. He couldn't believe his sister had let a complete stranger stay at their castle, let alone a human girl.

Golden eyes narrowed at the male who walked back and forth. Putting her hands on her lap, Nishiyo shook her head in her brother's direction,"Such problems will not come to be Rikuto, if any of the fellow clan members have any word against my wish then they will have to result to me. If they still disagree; they shall speak to Sesshoumaru."

Rikuto stopped trotting around the room and sighed. He couldn't go against his own blood and if she wished for the human girl their nephew brought to stay in the castle, he didn't want to argue any farther.

"Onee-sama, I don't want you to be hurt if the clan were to oppose you." He admitted, his shoulders slumping as he thought if the decision she made was wise.

"Brother I will be just fine. If there is anything to worry about it should be over Akuhei and InuKimi," Nishiyo retorted, her gaze straying to one of her trusted servants that entered the room to give her and her brother a cup of tea. Thanking the young dog-demoness with a smile, the daiyōkai nodded her head so the servant can walk out to tend to other duties.

Giving his elder sister a curt nod, Rikuto ambled toward the door and headed out.

Nishiyo relaxed in her chair as she stared to her right to face the small metal box that held her most prized possessions. "If only there wasn't so much conflict, I would get to know my nephews more."

The daiyōkai was granted no access to speak with her half-demon nephew when her brother passed, but ever since the clan knew of the hanyō who defeated Naraku was indeed Inuyasha they gave her permission. There were countless times she had gone against the clan's orders and helped her nephew during harsh times, especially when the cold came and the food was harsh to find.

She knew that Sesshoumaru had a difficult time with his father being infatuated over a human princess. Nishiyo wanted to help him and even though she tried her hardest to make him understand. Although she couldn't stop the hatred he held for Inuyasha and his human mother. She also knew that InuKimi did hold love for Toga, and he in return;however, they weren't in love. Loving someone and being in love was two separate things.

Nishiyo pinched the bridge of her nose as memories clashed in her thoughts. Her brother was a very well known demon throughout the lands and he was ever so often looked down upon by other demons, most importantly the higher-ups in the clan when revealing of his love for a human. It didn't affect him and he kept on fighting many difficult adversaries.

The time came when the superiors of the clan wanted Toga to face Ryūkotsusei, being that the dragon daiyōkai created mayhem throughout the lands. It was a test to see whether he was capable of defending the lands properly and to see if it was the love for the human princess that was making him weak.

However, things weren't as expected when he had sealed Ryūkotsusei with one of his fangs, but fatally wounding him in the process. They had thought that the dog general would have finished him off instead. Yet when news arrived of the princess carrying his offspring was having the child, instead of letting the wounds be properly taken cared of, he had taken off to her side.

Closing her eyes, she pictured her brother standing well and alive. She didn't know that that would be the last day she ever saw him. She drank more of her tea to calm and compose herself. Soon her eyes snapped open when she felt a pinch on the top of her other hand. Clearing her throat, the dog-demoness glanced down.

"Why Myoga-san, it has been such a long time," Nishiyo settled her cup of tea down and held out the palm of her hand in front of her face. She didn't mind the flea demon taking a bit of her blood as to there was harm of him doing so.

Myoga coughed at being caught so promptly and bowed to the older demon. "Nishiyo-sama forgive me for consuming your blood. I-I just couldn't help myself as such claret is similar to that of my deceased sire."

The demoness waved her hand, smiling at the flea demon that she grew up with. "It is all right, Myoga-san, there is no harm done in the matter." She paused to glance at the door when she heard a few voice beyond them.

"What brings you here? I haven't seen you since Inuyasha's younger pups' came into the world," her golden eyes trailed to the flea demon as she spoke. "Speaking of the pups, how are the young ones doing?" Nishiyo let him jump onto her shoulder as she stood on her feet to stride over to the enormous doors that led to the grand hall.

"Fine milady, but I've heard from the young master that Izayoi had a state of high agitation, however; Inuyasha-sama went in search for the herb to help her." Myoga placed his hands in the insides of his sleeves, nodding to himself as he informed the demoness.

Eyebrows raised in concern, Nishiyo opened her mouth to speak, although was unable to utter a word when the voices grew louder and shouting commenced.

Myoga's eyes opened in an instant and sweat trickled down the sides of his head in worry. Perhaps he should have waited a day long to advise the lady of such news, he certainly didn't want to be caught in a scuffle.

Walking into the grand hall to see what the situation was about, Nishiyo was surround by her guards that held their katanas in their hands. Her eyes darted to see her brother fighting with a guard that protected her older nephew's mother.

"Nishiyo-sama, the group we sent to Inuyasha's village was attacked by the dragon you spoke of. I'm afraid that Akuhei is heading there at this moment. Sadao was brought back with horrible injuries and the others didn't survive," one of her most trusted guards spoke as he held back a dog-demon that charged at them.

Growling in fury, Nishiyo reached for her own sword and prepared when some dog-demons jumped over the protected circle that was formed around her. "Myoga-san, leave and warn my nephew!"

Makoto stretched in his futon and let out a tongue-curling yawn as he sat up. His hands rubbed his eyes and gazed around the room. His sister was still in deep sleep and he kicked off the kimono that served as a blanket and walked over to her bedding. He pulled the blanket she had over her and noticed that she curled up into a ball, thinking it was her mother or father.

Kisara always did turn so much when sleeping and would always have her blanket on her feet.

Scratching his tangled tuff of hair, Makoto listened to the sounds of the forest which would put him to sleep afterwards. Yet with his human ears he only heard the soft noises of crickets, although, even if he didn't have his super hearing, he definitely heard a creak coming from outside his room. He knew that his father was asleep since he could hear his light snore coming from the room across their own. It could have been their mother feeding his brother or sister, but it didn't feel right.

Groggy with sleep, Makoto silently opened the shoji door of the room to exit and slid it close. He made sure not to make any sounds so he wouldn't disturb his younger siblings if either one of them were sleeping.

All was silent and calm, one of the twins were up. Izayoi blinked up at the ceiling and began to kick her legs. The infant half-dog demon then started to grunt when a shadow loomed over the bassinet and stood in between her and her twin brother.

Lifting tiny hands to her sides, Izayoi began to fuss and her face bunched up at the unknown scent coming into the room. As if knowingly, a barrier surrounded the bassinet where the children laid.

"Only a matter of time…" The figure muttered and gazed down at the infant, the owner's clawed hand rising to the touch the protected forcefield, but the appendage instantly lowered when they heard shuffling noises in the other room. The demon looked back at the infant that rested and the one that was awake that stared at their person.

If only there was a way around this barrier, they thought, too preoccupied to feel the rise of reiki behind them.

"Get away from my brother and sister," a voice barked at the demon who turned to face the oldest of the litter. His right hand was raised in a striking position while the other stayed near his side, fisted into a clenched hand. The tiny nails that would so become razor sharp, deadly claws, on the tips of his fingers come morning, were turned in the demon's way as his eyes glinted as the moon's light strayed through the window of the room.

The demon was astonished at the appearance of the oldest child of the family and merely smirked at the challenge. "Hmph, you are just a human." Golden eyes glimmered down at the young pup. "So tonight must be your night of weakness."

Makoto gulped hard but he didn't stand down as he focused most of his spiritual power to protect his siblings with the barrier he placed over them. He didn't even make one step towards the demon when the ground beneath him started to shake, but it didn't feel normal like any earth-shake.

A loud roar sounded from outside the hut, the rumble echoing through the hut. Panic arose within the used to be slumbering adults as they scrambled up and out of their room. Kagome ran to the room across from where they slept to where her eldest children rested in, hearing screams from inside as Inuyasha dashed to where the twins slept.

Slamming the shoji door open, Kagome noticed her daughter holding a makeshift blanket over her head. "Kisara," Kagome said, picking her daughter up and holding her close to her. She turned to the futon on her left side to see it empty. "Makoto!"

And in that moment, all hell broke loose.

Author's Note

I know, I'm horrible for leaving it off there and for the update being late. It's been a crazy two nearly three weeks, but I've been getting ready for Senior year and studying for SAT's. I was so excited when I found out there is going to be a new addition to the family. Anyway, thank you all so much!

Well, until then minna-san. My goodness I am going to be sad when this story finishes. I better get my tissues when I'm revising the last chapters. If you want to see what the pups look like check out my deviant art page, that's if you want to. Although I haven't posted any drawings of the twins, I will do so when I have the time. Matta ne!
