It was the day before Valentine's Day and I had no idea what Kaitlin and I were doing. My first observation was that Kirsten was thrilled. Sandy was less so. I had gone to the funeral and it was okay. I just had no idea what was going to happen now. Holly also had her suspension lifted and would be back at school. As I entered the kitchen wearing a white blouse over a white tank with pink spots and denim miniskirt, everyone seemed to be fighting about whether or not Valentine's Day was a real holiday.
"Sammie, back me up." Kirsten requested.
"I think it would be better if I just stayed out of it." I pointed out.
"So how are you doing?" Sandy asked me as I grabbed some coffee.
"I'm about as good as anyone can be after having a gun in her face." I declared.
"Well Valentine's Day will really cheer you up." Kirsten explained. "There's a big party to benefit the hospital and you guys are going to dress up and everyone is going to have a good time."
"Kaitlin will probably like that." I stated. "It also might be a place for Seth to find a girlfriend."
"I do not need any help with finding a girlfriend." Seth argued. Holly kind of liked him and then there was the former best friend, Taylor. He probably didn't need help. I also think that this was one of those moments where Kirsten was glad to have another girl in the house.
I met up with Kaitlin at school. There really wasn't the somber mood that I was expecting because I don't think anyone really liked Oliver. I needed to find Taylor and invite her to the party. I also didn't know what would happen with Marissa.
She found us at school.
"So I wanted to apologize for not believing you two." Marissa declared. She looked at Kaitlin. "I was hoping we could get together and talk maybe tomorrow night."
"Tomorrow night is Valentine's Day." The brunette Cooper pointed out.
"I can't wait but wonder if I might have been able to save him." Marissa declared.
"You couldn't have loved him." I pointed out. "He might have been beyond saving."
"Well above everything else, I just want things to go back to normal." Marissa stated. "So did you two have any plans for tomorrow? Do you mind if I tag along?"
"Well Kirsten is hosting this party for the hospital." I answered. I couldn't help but wonder to myself if I should start referring to her and Sandy as my mom and dad because for intents and purposes, they were. I decided I would talk to them about it. "We're going to that."
"Okay, then I'll go too." Marissa remarked. "It sounds fun."
Right now I needed to go to class. Things were definitely going to be awkward. I don't know if Kaitlin really wanted to be forgiving right now because Marissa did almost get us killed. Who knows what would have happened if not for Taylor.
I decided to meet with Summer at lunch because she seemed to know where I could find Taylor. I noticed that she was alone, and I couldn't help but wonder why.
"Anna is in Pittsburgh on Valentine's Day." She complained. "Who does that? Who does that?"
"Well I'm sorry about that." I responded. 'So have you talked to Marissa?"
"She's called me a few times but I haven't answered." She replied.
"Marissa made a mistake, but I don't know if shutting her out will do us any good." I pointed out. "So can you help me find Taylor because I want to invite her to this singles party."
"Are you sure that you want to be friends with her?" Summer asked. "She's kind of weird."
"I made her a promise and I want to keep it." I replied. "She's probably just misunderstood. Plus she saved our lives. You should probably be friends with her too."
At that point, I noticed Holly was coming over to us. She had a bright smile on her face.
"You know I never thought that I would be so happy to be back in school." She commented. "I also want to say that both of you look very pretty today."
"Have you been drinking Red Bulls again?" I asked her.
"Why can't I just be happy?" She rebutted. "Oliver is out of our lives and all is right in the world again."
"He's dead." I deadpanned. "That's kind of a big deal."
"Well I'm sorry but I can't say that I feel bad about it." She admitted before Summer walked away. Well at least she was honest about it.
"So Seth is going to be at the singles gala dance thing tomorrow night." I told the blonde. "It's no secret that you like him."
"How the hell did I fall for Seth Cohen?" Holly asked as if I could answer.
"I think it's the fro." I guessed. "It seems like any girl that likes guys likes the fro."
At that moment, I noticed Taylor walking by and I went over to her.
"Hey, I was looking for you." I stated.
"Well here I am." She replied. I smiled at her.
"So I have that party invite that you wanted." I declared. "It's for the hospital and it's for single people, so you will be in good company."
"You know I could get a boyfriend or girlfriend if I want." She told me.
"Which one do you want?" I asked.
"I don't know yet. I haven't many dates." She responded to which I giggled. "It's not funny."
"Well you'll probably start getting dates soon." I declared. "You will need to wear a nice dress though."
"I have a few of those. My mom is a very successful sports agent." She replied. "She does have a long-standing feud with Scott Boras though. I'm guessing by the look on your face that you don't know who he is."
"I need to get going." I remarked. "So I will see you at the party."
That night I was in the kitchen with Kirsten. I was with pretty sure that she and Sandy were fighting over something. I couldn't help but wonder if it had anything to do with him not thinking of Valentine's Day as a holiday.
"So I have something that I wanted to discuss with you." I replied. She put on a listening ear. "You guys are my family and I've already started to refer to Seth as my brother. I guess what I'm getting at is would you be okay if I called you Mom?"
"Yes, I would okay with that as long as you're comfortable doing it." She answered.
"Well I think I need to find out if I'm comfortable doing it." I replied. "The only way for me to do that is to do it."
At night, I was in the pool house studying when Kaitlin walked in. She was wearing a trench coat.
"So I really didn't get to see you today." She pointed out.
"I was talking to my mom about something important earlier." I told her as I began to wonder what she was wearing anything under her coat.
"You talked to your mom?" She asked.
"No, what I was talking about is I'm gonna start calling Sandy and Kirsten my mom and dad because they did adopt me." I explained. "Are you going to show me what's under your coat?"
She untied it and let it fall open to reveal…nothing. I liked that she was wearing nothing. She got on top of me and started to undress me. It was at that moment that Seth walked in.
"Hey, Sammie…never mind I will go and ask someone else for help." He started before realizing what was going on and walking out. I was not going to let anyone stop us this time. I locked the door and closed the blinds.
"You have me all to yourself now." I told her. "You probably should borrow some of my clothes for when you leave though."
"Let's not talk." She suggested.
In the morning, I was getting ready for school, hoping Seth wouldn't mention what he saw last night.
"So I want to talk to you about what I wanted to tell you last night." He replied. "Let me start by saying that I'm sorry for interrupting."
"You didn't really screw it up." I responded. He looked a little grossed out. We were definitely family. "What's up?"
"I slept with Holly yesterday." He replied. That escalated quickly.
"How was it? Did she like it?" I grilled.
"We had sex." He whispered.
"Okay, so I'm guessing it was bad." I responded. "Well at least you did it."
"It wasn't bad. It was just weird." He replied. "I mean it was weird thinking about all the people she has been with and I only had only time with Anna who might have just been using me."
"Well I don't think she's had any diseases." I told him. "She doesn't do that anymore. You're probably the first person that she's been with since school started."
"I sucked and Anna didn't tell me that I sucked because it was her first time too." He explained.
"The first time is always the most awkward." I told him. "You'll get another chance."
"I'm not sure that I will though." He argued.
"She told me that she had fallen for you. You'll get another chance." I assured him.
"I need your help with how to please a girl. So how do you please a girl?" Seth declared.
"Do you know how awkward this is?" I inquired.
"Yes, I know the irony of asking your lesbian sister about heterosexual sex." He told me.
"We should start setting up." I stated as I headed for the door.
"I need tips. I need advice." He whined. "Teach me the ways of romance."
"Just do it again and don't make the same mistakes." I instructed. I met with Kaitlin outside as Seth followed behind me. He was scowling.
"What's your problem?" She asked as she got in the passenger seat.
"He's just mad because I won't tell him how to please a woman." I declared.
"You have to find the g-spot. Sammie loves that." Kaitlin remarked as I blushed brightly.
"I think I'm gonna stay here." Seth then replied. "I need to talk to my dad."
I hadn't told him about my new decision yet.
"So I think my mom is having an affair, but I'm not sure who she's seeing." She replied. "So who did Seth sleep with?"
"Holly." I answered. "I'm pretty sure that this is the first day that we both had sex. So I am going to need that dress back unless you want to give me one of yours."
When we got to the restaurant, I couldn't help but notice that Holly was there.
"So I am going to assume that Seth has told you about how we had sex yesterday and you told Kaity." She remarked as we nodded. "God, he was so bad. I have to pee."
She walked off hastily and I nearly ran into one of the trays being carried by one of the caterers.
"Whoa, sorry." I apologized. Then tray then lowered and I noticed that it was Theresa. "Theresa? What are you doing here?"
"I figure what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day then to serve a pate to a bunch of rich people." She quipped as Kaitlin scowled. "I see you two are still together."
"I happen to be one of those rich people." I remarked. "My name is Cohen now."
"I guess some people do change." She pointed out.
"Shouldn't you be working?" Kaitlin asked.
At that point, I dragged to her the bathroom with me where I found that Holly was not. Maybe she had left.
"You didn't need to be rude." I declared. "We were just having a civil conversation."
"Well she's your ex and I don't like her." Kaitlin replied.
"Don't be jealous. I love you." I told her. "So it looks like Holly ditched us. I want to talk to her when she gets a break. I promise nothing will happen."
I met Theresa outside a few minutes later and told her all about Oliver.
"So now he's dead." I explained.
"I can't believe that you got threatened with a gun here of all places." She commented. "I still can't believe that you changed your name. You've really become a good girl. I wish that you were like this when you and I were together."
"I couldn't have been like this at home." I declared. "Should I feel bad for not fully believing Kaitlin about him until later?"
"Well good girls like to give people the benefit of the doubt." She explained. "I mean you're friends with that Holly chick after all."
At that moment, Taylor walked over.
"Hey, Sammie." She greeted me before she noticed Theresa in uniform. "What are you doing?"
"This is Theresa, she's my ex-girlfriend and she's working as a caterer." I explained. "This is Taylor Townsend, the girl who saved the day from Oliver."
"Well I just called the cops." Taylor replied. "I'm sure anyone who had been listening through a recording pin would have done the same."
I think that is an extremely narrow list of people.
"I should get back to work." Theresa replied as she hastily got up.
"She's a friend and nothing more." I warned Taylor.
That night, I was in a black gown as I waited for Kaitlin to come and meet me. The first person to come in was not Kaitlin, however, it was Seth.
"So I think I am going to remember these chats before the big events as my favorite times." He commented as I lined my eyes.
"Did you sleep with Holly again?" I questioned.
"Yes, and it went much better." He explained. "Of course, that really wasn't that much of an improvement. I think I might have a spinal injury. You know I think bad sex is a sign that we can't work as a couple. What sucks is that I know that I have so much more to give."
"I don't need to know what you mean." I told him.
"Fair enough." He agreed. "What about you? Anything interesting happen to you today?"
"I ran into Theresa." I stated. He looked at me like he didn't know who I was talking about. "The ex from Chino, I told you about her. Do you listen when I talk?"
"What was that? I wasn't listening." He replied. I glared at him. "I'm kidding."
At that point, I got a text from Kaitlin saying that she was going with Marissa. I hoped that she wasn't mad about the Theresa thing.
So Seth and I went with San…our father. I stood next to him as I began to look around for Kaitlin. She had to be here somewhere. He looked over to…Mom, who frowned at him.
"If you want some advice, don't ever get married." He replied. He had told me that before. "I'll be at the bar."
"Hi guys." Theresa greeted. "Do you some of…whatever this is?"
"Yes." I declared as I grabbed a chocolate-covered strawberry. "Seth, this is Theresa. I need to find my girlfriend."
I also needed to find Taylor, but I wanted to find Kaitlin first. It turned out that they were together…with Marissa.
"Hey." I said as I grabbed Kaitlin and gave her a big kiss in the middle of the room.
"What was that for?" Kaitlin asked.
"It's Valentine's Day." I stated I then looked Marissa and Taylor who we had just blatantly made out in front of. "It's good to see you two, but we need some couple time."
"So do you think I could sleep over?" She questioned. "My mom is pissed that Caleb didn't show up and she'll likely be blasting Bob Seger and getting drunk. Is there anything you wanted to talk about?"
"Well my parents are fighting and Seth and Holly had rough sex, which according to him was not the good kind of rough sex." I said. "Have you talked to your dad lately?"
"I haven't much since I moved out." She replied. "I don't really want to live with my mom and Caleb, but I don't want to live with Marissa either. At least my mom listens to me, so she's the lesser of two evils, plus it's right next to you."
"You know that Marissa is sorry." I stated.
"Why are you taking her side?" She asked me angrily.
"I'm not taking her side, but I do think that you should at least forgive her for accidentally almost getting you, me, and Summer killed. Where is Summer anyway?"
"She's hanging out with her dad." Kaitlin explained. "I can forgive her for that, but I don't know if I can forgive her for not listening to me."
"Hey." Theresa interrupted. "Cigarette?"
"You know I quit after I found out they cause more than just lung cancer." I replied.
"I didn't know you smoked." Kaitlin replied in annoyance. I hadn't told her because it wasn't important. I was 14 and stupid.
"Well you definitely are a Cohen." Theresa remarked. "All I want to say is I'm happy for you two. I don't want to come between you guys. I just want to say that I've started seeing someone. I do have one thing to ask you. Do you ever think about coming home?"
"I am home." I remarked. "I wouldn't have changed my name, worked my ass of in school, entered a relationship and decided to refer to my adoptive parents as my new parents if I wasn't home. I really am not the same girl from Chino anymore. Maybe I never will fit in with the in crowd here, but I'm okay as a member of the outer circle here and I don't want to go back."
"I wish I knew how to leave." Theresa mused. "We don't all have rich families adopting us."
"Well we should go back inside." Kaitlin replied. I looked at her. "I want to talk to Marissa and I really was hoping that you would go with me to support me."
We went inside to see that Marissa and Taylor were kissing. That…I had no words for that. I did not see that coming. We left them alone for maybe ten minutes.
"Excuse me I need to talk to my sister." Kaitlin interrupted. They broke apart and blushed.
The two of them began to talk. They really seemed to get into it. I went back outside for a moment and I saw Seth getting into Theresa's car. That had bad decision written all over it. If he was doing it because of how things were going with Holly, he was an idiot.
It was less than a minute later that Holly came over to me.
"Have you seen Seth?" She asked. "I really need to talk to him."
"No." I lied. I didn't want to hurt her right now even though it seemed like he was about to make a stupid decision.
That night, Kaitlin and I were in the pool house together.
"So what did you and Marissa talk about?" I questioned. "I really wanted to give you some time alone."
"I told her that I don't want to live with her again yet, but I'm not holding anything against her." She explained. "The big thing that I have a problem with is that I am not sure that I can trust her anymore. How did my relationship with my sister become so screwed up?"
"I think it might be my fault." I answered. "I'm the one that came between you two."
"No, Marissa was messed up long before you got here." She argued. "Holly was still cheating on her regardless of you being her. You saved her which I am extremely grateful for. This is the best day for me to love you."
"Every day is a good day for me to love you." I told her.
So things are rocky for both Holly and Seth as well as Marissa and Kaitlin, but things do not seem to be rocky for Marissa and Taylor. And Sammie has no intention of getting back with Theresa, but Seth might. Please don't forget to review.
