Violet stood atop the roof of the Rockbell house. She watched the horizon for the train that would bring her love home.

The only problem was one: She had kept her feelings a secret, and two: it had been two years without so much as a call from him.

She didn't even know if he was alive.

But she waited anyway. Though many moons passed, and many suns set, her love for him did not falter.

She remembered the day she met him. She had been running with her little brother from the police because she had stolen food from the market.

She ran right smack into him and fell over. He had helped her up, and paid for the food she had stolen for her brother. And he took her in. She would never forget that day. Not ever.

So here she stood, waiting...

And waiting...

And waiting...

Time passed... Her younger brother died of an illness, and she was starting to lose hope.

She was about to give up and go inside when suddenly...

"Violet!"

She looked up and nearly fell off the roof at what she saw.

A red dot dashed up the dirt road in the distance.

"Edward..." She breathed.

She leaped off the roof and ran to him, her waist-long blonde hair flowing behind her, her eyes imitating a waterfall.

He dropped the suitcase he held in his right hand and ran to meet her.

And she glomped him, her arms wrapped around his neck tightly, her face buried in the crook of his neck.

"I told you that I'd come back." Edward soothed, stroking Violet's hair as she sobbed into his coat. "I promised, didn't I?"

Violet then pulled back and pressed her lips against his.

He blushed deeply, and before he could say anything, Violet confessed.

"Ed... I love you."

He blinked in surprise, staring at her in bewilderment. "For... For how long?"

Violet smiled softly. "Always."

Edward stared for a moment longer, before grinning widely. "Well that settles a question that's been boiling in my mind the last two years."

Violet continued to smile up at him.

Edward pulled her closer and rested his chin on her head. "Because... I love you too, Vi..."

She kissed him again and said, "My heart is yours to keep."
