Anakin was restless. The wedding day was set and the kingdom was counting down fast. Caci had grudgingly agreed to stay for the wedding ceremony but after that they had to all leave. Now here he was. Helpless as he would watch his wife walk down the aisle with another man. All for what someone else had told him would be her happiness. But if that was true, why did he sense so much misery in her heart right now?
"Anakin Hayden Skywalker!"
Anakin jumped up and looked around. He let out a breath of air when he recognized that misty shadow surreal atmosphere engulfing him. He wanted to close his eyes and go back to sleep in his own galaxy. A galaxy where when he woke up it would be the wedding day of his former bride.
"Anakin Hayden how dare you hide from me!"
A figure emerged in the mist of the smoke and blackness. A long dead one at that. Anakin opened his mouth to argue his point but found no sound, again. The spirit did as best she could to hide her amusement.
"It seems your friends are right, I like you better quiet too." Anakin had been one to lock horns with Aunt Jenny ever since he had learned about thsi Skywalker ancestor. He liked her just fine in all honesty. He was her favored descendant, meaning that she was one of the few to like him more than baby sister Janna. Nonetheless, Jenny was usually more interested in the boring side of his life. The family history, the shapeshifting, the prestiage of the Skywalker line. She was no Jedi, but not a half bad mentor.
"Listen to me Anakin, I've only come here to warn you for your own good."
Anakin cocked his head in interest. Padme was one of those "roll your eyes but don't fight" kind of subjects for Jenny. She saw no real point in love. Padme was more or less a distraction in her eyes, so why would she be here to defend her?
"I know what that woman means to you, even if I don't understand it. And the Force has shown me what a bleak future yours will be if she is ripped from you so soon."
Anakin's eyes narrowed. How dare she. Didn't she know what sacrifice he had gone to for his angels happiness? Didn't that matter to her? Apparently not.
"Oh don't try telling me that she's happier with him. Did she ever once look you in the eye and tell you that she loved a wolf more than you? Well did she?!"
Anakin's gaze fell to his feet. These kinds of arguments were the kind he never could win even if he had a voice to shout back with.
"These wolves are not what they seem. Their a sick race, twisted and warped by the Dark Side. Trust me Anakin, they will destroy her and all the good she has ever brought to the galaxy if Rey Sanchez has his way with her. The Force clouds your vision here, it has been such to our people for centuries. That's why I'm here now. To warn you before its too late."
Anakin felt lower than a womp rat. Had he been the one to design such a fate for his angel? He couldn't even tell her how much he loved her now, what was he going to do to crash an entire lycan wedding?
Just like that he was back in bed. A few rays of golden sun trickled through the window. He shot straight up. Morning. Wedding. Padme.
The door swung open and Jesse stuck his head in. "Hey man what's up? Caci said I should probably come and get you just in case you still wanted to come with us to - "
Anakin Force pulled Jesse over to his side and reached for the japor snippet next to his bedside.
"Uh are you feeling okay? I'm not following."
Anakin rolled his eyes and shoved the necklace closer to Jesse's face.
"Ooooh I get it. You're changing your mind huh?"
He nodded eagerly.
"Well what are we waiting for? We have a wolf wedding to crash!"
With that he jumped off the bed and sped down the hall. Anakin rolled his eyes and gingerly put his weak legs on the floor.
"Hey where...oh thats right. Two shattered legs I forgot. Can you keep up?"
Anakin nodded despite the pain shooting up his legs and took a step forward. He was going to get his angel back.
"Ah reina! You're beautiful!" Corona exclaimed as she put the final adjustments onto Padme's veil.
Padme blinked away tears as she looked into the mirror. The last time she had been dressed like this things were so different.
"It-it's lovely. Thank you."
"Oh Padme you mustn't be like that," Margarita said as she pulled out the train a bit further. "Alejandro is so honored to be having you. He actually feels under privileged. Can you believe that?"
"I don't want to think right now. I just want to finish this all."
Padme went up to the altar with shaking hands. This lycan cathedral was one of the most beautiful places she had ever seen. But the tears in her eyes kept her from seeing such beauty. It was all a blur. Except for one thing. The man to be her husband. He was beaming like the moon she could tell. His eyes were set on her, filled with such passion, such love.
"Ah mi flor, you truly are a wonder of the galaxy today."
"Thank you Jandro, I hope I can serve your people well. After all I'm trading mine for them." It was true. Naboo would have to get along without her. The entire Senate would actually. Instead she had a new race to serve. One that lived on blood and pain.
She had heard the words a thousand times before as the ceremony droned on. "...speak now or forever hold your peace."
Her heart tore a little there. No one here would stop her vows now. Nothing -
"NO!"
Gasps went through the congregation in horror. Padme flipped back her veil and looked down the aisle.
"Ani!" She dropped her bouquet and ran down to meet him halfways. "Oh Ani, Ani, Ani!"
"I'm sorry rey Sanchez. But I was wrong. You can't have Padme. Not now, and not ever. Because, her happiness can't be compensated for. It just took me awhile to figure that out."
Padme forgot where they were in a second and took his head in her hands and kissed him like she hadn't in such a long time.
A howl pierced the air. Padme looked to the altar and gasped. Alejandro's fury had overcome his curse once again. His wolf self was the eprfect manifestation of his very soul. It was a creature composed of little more than muscle and hide covering thick bulging muscles. And the fangs. They shined like daggers in the sun.
"Uh hey Anakin, I think we really should go, like now! Come on Caci has the ship out back!"
Padme looked at Alejandro one last time and sighed. "I'm sorry Jandro, I'm not your reina."
Without warning the wolf took off. Anakin just hoped that his legs would hold out long enough. They had too.
"Ani hurry!"
Anakin tripped down the stairs out back. That second was all Alejandro needed to be on his heels. Jesse rolled his eyes and pulled his friend out of the clamps of the snapping jaws.
"You guys hurry!"
Caci waited out by the ship. She groaned when she saw Jesse half dragging Anakin behind him. So much for her careful healing plans.
"Go Caci go!" Padme panted once they had reached the safety of the ship.
Anakin gasped for air and fell to his aching knees. It was too close.
"Oh Ani! Ani I knew you would have come its just - oh and you're talking! Oh Ani!"
After a few more kisses Anakin was finally able to catch his breath. "Angel I'm so sorry. I did this to you. I had to almost lose you see what you meant to me."
"Ani its okay. And its not your fault. It was mine. I was so upset, so caught up in what was wrong with you, I only saw what was right about someone else."
"You guys make me sick, you know that? Caci set us straight for Couruscaunt and -"
"No! Not Couruscaunt. Naboo."
Anakin looked at Padme questioningly.
"I want to go back to the place I first started falling in love with you. I mean after all, were lost to the Republic right now aren't we? What's a few more days?"
"I love you. You know that?"
Padme smiled. "I do now."
A full moon hung over a lycan sky that night. A few howls broke into the wilderness midnight song. They had lost a battle that day. An important one. But their war was not yet over.
Alejandro will return...
