Another Chapter, I'm on a roll. Hope you all enjoy and don't forget to review. Also I just can't wait for Christmas.
I don't own Warriors or Starship Troopers.
Starship Warriors
When will all this running end? Was the thought that run through my head as we raced away from the hordes of bugs. The narrow and long tunnels were not only taking a toll on me physically, although not that much since the suit is doing most of the work, but also mentally. I think that I was starting to become claustrophobic and needed to go to a psychiatrist after this is over. That is if I ever come out of this alive. Right now my only goal was to stay alive and find a way to get out of here in one piece. But that task alone was proving to be really difficult and the thousands of bugs that crawled around the place didn't help at all.
"I don't think there is an end to these tunnels!" Skycloud, who was a couple of tail behind me, complained.
"I don't know about that…" Goldfur, who was running in front of me, replied. "…but I just hope that this tunnel doesn't lead to a dead end."
I kept quiet, but gave a nod to what he said. Not that he saw it that is, but that was the least of my worries at that time. I to hoped that it didn't lead to a dead end because if it did we will be left facing against the wall and fighting of as much bugs as we can until we run out of ammunition or get killed and turned into bits or skin and metal.
We continued running and running, the sound of our suits would have echoed through the tunnels like a can being hit by a stick, but I knew the sound of the hundreds of bugs feet was already enough to attract the attention of all of the bugs inside the tunnel system.
But just as we thought that we were doomed, faith smiled at us and gave as a break and not a minute too soon.
I saw on my radar screen a sight that I will never forget. It showed the tunnel ending that led to a gigantic cavern, which was actually larger than the previous one we were in, that would help us in our situation. So we made haste and started running as fast as the suits could go. We were like our saber toothed ancestors hunting for prey, the only difference was we were the prey and we were the ones running or our lives.
Goldfur was the first cat to reach the end of the tunnel. I saw him face towards the tunnel as I entered while his rocket started to deploy. So the moment I stepped out I did the same. My rocket launcher deployed on the left shoulder of my suit and was ready to fire when Skycloud stepped out.
"Open fire!" Goldfur shouted as he fired a rocket towards the ceiling of the tunnel. I didn't need to be told to fire during that time and had already launched my rocket the moment Skycloud got out, which coincidentally was the same time Goldfur fired his.
The two rockets hit the ceiling of the tunnel before exploding with a loud bang. The loud sound echoed around as the force of the explosion destroyed the ceiling causing rocks to colaps on the tunnel. The rocks fell down, and just as the bugs got into sight, blocking the path to the cavern we were in.
"Woo….that was a close one." Skycloud said panting.
"You can say that again." I told him as I tried to regain my breath.
"Alright." He replied. "Woo…that was a close one."
"I didn't…" I started but stopped. "…you know what never mind."
"Ummm…" I heard Goldur say from behind us. "…I think you two should see this." What he said made me freeze. Did we end up in a room filled with bugs? I though as I slowly, and nervously, faced towards his direction.
"What do we…" I asked, but stopped once I saw what he was looking at. In front of us were small black orbs that were all piled up in the middle of the cavern. I didn't know how many there were, but from the radar image I got I knew that it would have been in the thousands. The cavern was as big as three soccer fields, so I'm guessing that it was a lot. I took a few steps closer and looked at the orbs closely. Although the orbs were black, they were also slightly transparent so I could slightly see what was inside. What I saw made my heart skip a beat. Inside of it was a small spider like creatures that were curled up and, I presume, were asleep.
"Are these what I think they are?' I asked as I looked left, to see Goldfur inspecting the orbs, and right, to see Skycloud poking at one with his plasma gun that was extended from his suit.
"Yup I think so…" He said before padding towards me. "…their bug eggs and we must be in their nursery or something."
"Well what should we do?" Skycloud, who now stood next to us, asked.
"I think we should blow this area up and get as far as we can." I suggested. They both looked at me and I knew I got their attention. "This is one of the bugs main source of reinforcements and blowing this place up might reduce their ability to send a force against us." I deliberately said 'might' since I had no clue how many places like this were there. I would later learn that the planet contained only a small colony of bugs and that this place was the main nursery were 90% of the bugs came from.
"Alright…" Goldfur said nodding. "…I'm in for it. So how much explosives do you two have because I got all five of mine." Each suit had at least five explosive satchel packs, each one enough to blow up a three story building. I wished that we had nukes during the time, but sadly they were only for NCO's and officers which none of us were.
"I've got five." I said before looking towards Skycloud.
"I got five too…" He said cheerfully. "…so let's get this light show started."
I gave a nod and before padding to one corner before saying:
"I'll take this side."
"Alright…" Goldfur said. "…Skycloud take that corner." He then pointed his tail to the far side of the pile of orbs. "I'll take this side over here. Remember to put them at least five meters apart. Use your suits computer to measure the distance. Those thing are pretty powerful and I think they night just blow off the roof of this place." He said before chuckling.
I nodded in response and started deploying my satchel charges. A small compartment opened on the back of my suit and a small arms like lever gently put a satchel on the ground. I quickly grabbed it and put it next to the pile of orbs before pressing the arming button and setting it for a remote detonation.
With any luck this place will leave nothing at all but a bunch of rocks and burnt bug orbs. The very thought of it made me chuckle.
Another chapter done. Thanks for reading and I hoped you all enjoyed it. Also I know I said this a billion times by now, and I probably would until it's over, but Merry Christmas to all.
