A/N: Happy 50th everyone! :)
"We'll find him, where could he have gone? And hold on, didn't you lock him up last night at all? I mean, what kind of an officer are you?" Rose asked.
Julie stopped walking and a frown grew on his face. He mumbled something too quiet to be heard and Rose tilted her head. Reluctantly he raised his voice and said, "I'm not exactly... An officer."
"You what? What do you mean you're not an officer?! You lied to us?" Rose demanded, stomping her way in front of Julie and staring him in the eyes, her expression defiant.
"Listen, I didn't lie to you. Getting the Master was what they call a Mission, and, well, on every Mission they bring along..." Julie looked away from her and took a sudden interest in his shoelaces. "They bring along a rookie. This was my training. If I passed this Mission, I'd become an officer."
She raised an eyebrow and he groaned, pulling out his badge and showing it to her. "So... There was a Mission to bring the Master back to our universe and the only one who survived the trip here was the group rookie?"
"Pretty much," He said honestly.
Rose sat down at the kitchen table and rubbed her temples. "Could things get any more confusing?..."
"Rose?" Cam's voice called out from the hallway and he turned to see her in the kitchen. "I woke up with this piece of paper on my face. Someone with really pretty, cursive handwriting. I didn't read it, it's signed to you." He handed her a slip of paper and sat at the table next to her.
She would have considered how kind it was that Cam hadn't read it, but she was too busy desperately searching the paper with the hope that it would be from the Doctor. Sadly, the second she saw the handwriting, she knew it wasn't his. Instead, it was most definitely from the Master. Did all Time-Lords take perfect handwriting classes or something? Pushing that thought to the side she actually analyzed the words of the note and frowned.
Dear Rose,
I'm leaving before Officer Julie can arrest me. By the way, he's not a real officer, I noticed that when I saw his badge. Give my apologies to him and tell him to say hi to Rick at the Shadow Proclamation for me. I'm going to go search for the Doctor on my own. Instead of searching for him in our universe, I'm going to look for the letter's attachment since that may be easier. Leaving this note on Mac's face since some crazy lady is in your room.
"It's from the Master," Rose announced, handing the note back to Cam so he could read it over.
"Mac? He called me Mac?" Cameron said angrily, passing the note to Julie for him to read it next.
"Rick at the Shadow Proclamation? That's my brother," Julie rolled his eyes and set the note down at the table.
The three sitting at the table stared at each other in silence, thinking about what they had just read. A heavy tension set across the room and was randomly interrupted when Jackie walked in, smiling awkwardly. "Would anyone like tea?"
Ten minutes later they sat at the same table, this time with tea in front of them and Jackie and Finn there as well. "So let me get these names straight," Jackie looked around the table, sipping her tea. "Julia..."
"It's Julie," The Officer said, rolling his eyes a little.
"Alright, Officer Julie. And you're Finn, handsome lad you are," She grinned a little at Finn whose eyes widened.
Rose groaned. "Mum..."
"And this is Cameron. Got it."
Cam nodded and looked at the note again. "So what do you think this is about?"
"He really wants to find the Doctor, but couldn't he have taken me with him?" Rose muttered, turning the note over and making sure there was nothing written on the back. Suddenly a buzzing came from the kitchen counter and she noticed her Egg was getting a message. She got up and retrieved it, sitting back at the table and reading the message. "It's from Violet. She wants to know what happened, and why she hasn't gotten an answer from any of us."
Finn sighed, "Are you okay if she comes over? I think we need a bit of a group meeting."
Rose punched in some letters and hit send, getting a reply almost immediately. "She's on her way."
They all sipped their tea in silence until about a half hour later the doorbell rang and Violet walked inside. She was wearing a light green dress that came down to her knees with short sleeves and ruffles at the bottom. Black ballet flats were on her feet and her hair was done up in a big bun. Cameron raised an eyebrow. "Dressed fancy, are we?"
She rolled her eyes at him and pulled her hair out of the bun, sitting down at the table. "I was out for lunch."
"Oh... With who?" Finn asked curiously, setting his tea to the side.
"Let's get back to the topic at hand," Violet said, picking up the note laying on the table. "What happened?"
There was a half-hour long explanation of the many, many events that had happened in such a short period of time. When they were done explaining, Violet simply nodded a little and frowned. "Well, that certainly explains a lot," She murmured.
"So we need to find this attachment, find the Doctor, then we'll be done," Rose said happily, gaining hope. Sure, this whole thing was confusing, but at least she was very close to finding the Doctor again. She just hoped he would be in good shape when she found him.
"Rose, I hate to break your spirit..." Violet stared at Rose and clenched her teeth. "But I don't know if I can exactly assign this as a mission. I mean, I'd love for you to find him again and all, but Torchwood really doesn't cover this." Her eyes flickered to Cameron and Finn as the boys realized what this meant.
Finn frowned, "So we can't help her?"
She rubbed her temples and used a gentle voice, "I hate to be this mean. But unless Torchwood gets something out of it, I can't legitimately assign this as a mission. You'd lose your jobs if you ran off to help her."
The entire table fell silent, but then Rose interrupted. "Wait, I can tell you why this will benefit Torchwood. First of all, the Doctor is a genius, I promise if you help me get him back he'll show you guys a thing or two about aliens. Second of all, we'll meet the Shadow Proclamation. They're the space police, it would help Torchwood a ton if you guys could meet them, they'd help you learn about arresting aliens and the rift energy and everything. And lastly, isn't it a great feat for mankind itself if we learned about the parallel universes? We could unite, and-"
"So you're promising me that if Torchwood helps you get the Doctor back, he'll teach us more about his species and other species?" Violet interrupted, kindly accepting the tea Jackie offered her.
Rose nodded happily. "Absolutely."
"Then we have a deal," Violet shook her hand and took out her Egg. "I'll inform the rest of Torchwood."
After a few more minutes Rose held up a piece of paper so the rest of the table could see it. "So, our first goal is to find a way to get back to the other world. We're not sure where the attachment is, Julie, when you lost it, do you know which universe it went into?"
Julie coughed and replied, "I wasn't holding it personally, but I think if any of the other Shadow Proclamation Officers are alive then they may know. So that should be a goal as well."
"Sounds good," Rose said. "So, we want to find the Master, find the attachment, find the other officers, or get back to the other world. Now, we're not sure if the Master brought the TARDIS to this universe. The TARDIS is the Doctor's ship, it can travel anywhere in time and space. If we can get our hands on that, we can probably use it to get around a lot better. It's safe, too. Can Torchwood do a search for a blue police telephone box?"
Finn nodded, "I'll be in charge of searching for that."
"Alright, Violet, can Julie get access to some Torchwood computers and databases so he can search for some Officers?"
She nodded and handed Julie a spare Egg. "Use that to communicate."
"Great. So Finn on finding the TARDIS and Julie on finding officers. Cameron, can you search for the Master? I'm not sure if he'll use the TARDIS to get into the other dimension, but if he doesn't he may still be here."
Cameron nodded, "I'll try my best."
"I'll look for the attachment in this universe in case it's here. Julie, can I get all the information you have on that attachment or the letter itself? Any data you may have?"
"Of course," Julie said before frowning. "Rose, if it's the Doctor's ship, do you still know how to fly it?"
"I can figure it out. I've seen him fly it a bunch of times," Rose explained. "Now, let's do this. Everyone know their jobs?" Rose picked up a pen and scribbled something down on the spare piece of paper in front of her. Finn-TARDIS. Julie-Officers. Cameron-Master. Rose-Attatchment. She put down the pen and mumbled to herself, "I'll find you, Doctor."
