Rose blocked the door with her arm as Violet tried to leave. "You're not leaving this room until you explain."

"Now you really sound like my mother," Violet rolled her eyes and sat back down.

Violet sat on the bed, swinging her legs back and forth and looking up at the ceiling. "Well, how should I explain this?" she mumbled to herself, eyes flickering down to Rose. "I'm a Time Lord. You're my mother. Make sense? Okay, bye then!" Violet stood up and made a run for the door, which Rose blocked with her body.

"That's not the explaining I meant. If you were my child, I'm pretty sure I'd remember having you," Rose retorted, a drop of nervous sweat on her own forehead. "Especially if you're a Time Lord. You're probably mistaken somewhere, because you're not my kid."

"It's like I said," Violet rolled her eyes. "Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey. You haven't, er, how do I say this? You haven't had me yet?"

Rose's eyes widened, "So your my child from the future?"

"If that's what you want to call me. That sounds pretty cool, so yeah, I'm your kid from the future. But it's like all those time travel movies, I can't tell you a lot of stuff because it would mess your life and my life up. I already kind of screwed that up by saying you're my mother... God, you're going to kill me for that. Well, not you. The future you. You know what I mean, right?"

Rose suddenly felt dizzy and sat down on a chair, holding her throbbing forehead in both hands. "I saw a picture of you and your family on your desk at Torchwood a long, long time ago. Explain that. And what can you tell me?"

"I got that from Google images, surprisingly nobody ever questioned it. And I can tell you that you'll end up happy, Rose," Violet said with a small smile, hugging Rose tightly and burying her head into her shoulder. "You've just gotta get through some rough stuff then you'll end up happy. Okay?"

The blonde woman nodded, now feeling more like the child than the mother. "What do we do now? There are Torchwood operatives trying to get inside the ship from the outside."

"They won't make it in here. The assembled hordes of Gengis Khan couldn't make it through those doors," Violet said proudly. "But, we should get out of here. Can you fly us back up to the top of the hole?"

"Um... How?"

Violet rolled her eyes. "Oh, you can't fly the TARDIS. God, you're really, really going to kill me for revealing that one. Anyways, I think I can fly her. You and da... You and... Er... Someone else have been teaching me."

Shock flashed in Rose's eyes, "Who's your dad?"

"I can't tell you," she said sympathetically, walking towards the door.

"Please, who's your dad?"

The red-head frowned, "I can't tell you. Now do you want me to fly the ship or not?"

Rose sighed and allowed Violet to exit the room and enter the console room nearby. She rested a hand on the console, closing her eyes and smiling at the result of whatever she was doing. "Okay, now I'm going to warn you now," Violet said, "I've only learned really, really recently. So you may want to hold onto something."

Violet touched a lever and the TARDIS lurched to the right, throwing Rose violently against a coral strut. "Ow!"

"Sorry! I did warn you!"

After about two more minutes the TARDIS had landed on the ground next to the hole, and Rose, after convincing Violet to stay inside, stepped out to see many angry Torchwood officers in front of them. She shut the police box doors behind her, and Finn marched up angrily to her. "Where have you been?!" he shouted, looking about ready to hit her. "I've been here six days waiting for you! The box wouldn't open! Then it just disappears and you're here!"

"Six days?!" Rose gasped, remembering what Violet had said about her flying skills. "Sorry, very, very rubbish time-machine flying."

"What happened to you? Is Violet alive? Cameron, Julie, and I have been worried sick, and do not get me started on Jackie." He winced at the memory of her mother before walking up to the door of the TARDIS and trying to open it. "Open it, I need to see Violet."

"Listen, Finn..." Rose tried to explain, but he was having none of it.

"Open it."

Rose reluctantly complied, opening the door and allowing only Finn inside, shutting it behind them. "Listen," she said as she watched with amusement as he looked around, gasping audibly.

"Oh my god," Finn mumbled, touching the wall then withdrawing his hand quickly as if it was poisoned. "It's bigger on the inside."

The new Violet popped her head around a coral strut, grinning at him. "Finn!" She ran up to him and hugged him tightly.

"Who the bloody hell are you? And how is this bigger on the inside? What is going on?" Finn demanded, looking from Violet to Rose and back again.

"Oh, yeah, regeneration," Violet muttered, feeling her short hair again. "I'm Violet."

"No no no, you're not Violet. You can't possibly be Violet."

She rolled her eyes. "On your second day working at Torchwood I gave you the keys to the Torchwood car and the first thing you said was "Can I marry this car?", is that proof enough for you?"

"But Violet looks different! Completely different! Not even close to you with your red hair and... Stuff. And again, how is this ship bigger on the inside?"

Violet shrugged, "Well, it was explained to me like this: imagine a big cube really far away, so it looks small, and then a small cube really up close, but it looks bigger. If you hide the bigger cube inside the small cube without moving them, then the cubes are put together and separated instantly and constantly. Make sense?"

Finn shook his head.

"Okay, then, it's just magical."

He seemed satisfied with this answer. "But if Violet regenerated... And that's her, then she's a Time Lord?" he asked Rose.

"Yes, now you're getting it," Rose said happily. "She's also my daughter."

"She's your what?!" Finn gasped, backing up and into the wall. "She's your daughter? But she's a Time Lord! Rose, please, for the love of God, tell me you're human!"

"I am!" Rose answered quickly, "At least, I'm pretty sure I am."

"How can you not be sure of your own species?! My boss is your daughter?! What the hell? Am I even human?" Finn shook his head and mumbled, "I'd run away down the hallway and go somewhere to think about this but I have no idea where I'd go or how to get there."

Violet nodded, "It's infinite."

"It's what?" Finn sat down on the jump-seat and rubbed at his temples. "If I hear one more thing that makes no sense I'll kick you until you regenerate. Both of you. I don't care what species you are."

Far away a book was resting in a man's lap, page opened and words written in a beautiful cursive black writing.

Dear whoever,

The TARDIS is making me keep a diary. It's stupid, unbelievably stupid. I've tried moving her away from my thoughts and kicking her out but she just keeps pouring herself back into my head. I suppose the Time Lords of old were right, the bond between a Time Lord and a TARDIS is permanent. The Shadow Proclamation came again today. It's the third time this month. I killed them all and moved along again to somewhere else. At this point, I'll move wherever, and don't care too much about leaving traces. I haven't heard from Koschei since the last phone call he gave me. The Proclamation probably got to him.

It's been so long and I still can't say her name. I don't think I ever will be able to again. I know she's still getting the flowers. The only other person who can and will read this is the TARDIS, but she already knows that, so it's not like it matters too much what I say here. I also don't think I'll write in here again, this is definitely the stupidest thing I've ever done, well, second stupidest thing. Only dumb apes write in diaries or journals.

My gun ran out of ammunition this morning, I'll need to steal more. The Proclamation really don't ever give up. Pretty sure UNIT came looking for me as well, not sure why really. Didn't have time to ask, they were dead in a heartbeat.

Yours truly,

The Doctor
