I'm sorry about the long wait for this update; there really isn't a good excuse... I was being lazy. I promise the next chapter will be arriving soon! ;)

Chapter 27: I'm Bound, There's No Way Out

Pulling up to Derek's old trailer, Lexie got out of the rental car; smiling at the white twinkling lights hanging off the awning and the soft music coming from inside. Mark stepped out onto the deck and felt his heart begin to race when he sees her walking towards him, still unable to believe that she's come back to him….. God, she's so beautiful! Meeting her at the edge of the deck, he pulls her into his arms and leans down to begin kissing her neck.

"Hey babe, I missed seeing you at the hospital this afternoon." He whispers into her ear, then begins to kiss her along her jawline as he pulls her back toward the door of the trailer.

"Hmmm, missed you too," she whispers and closes her eyes as she feels his hands move down the sides of her body until they reach her hips to pull her flush against his own.

"Wow, someone's impatient." she giggles softly against his mouth as she pushed his shirt down his shoulders, then yelps in surprise when she lands on top of the bed after the back of her knees hit the side. She hadn't even realized that they were already inside of the trailer until then.

Looking down at her, with a mixture of love and lust in his eyes, he whispers roughly, "I've had 5 years of being patient…now I just want to be greedy."

Several hours later, Mark is sitting on the couch wearing sleeping pants, eating a sandwich as he waits for Lexie to come out of the bedroom. He chuckles when he sees her come out of the room wearing his dress shirt, and then feels his heart jump, when she sits down next to him and lays her head down on his lap. Running his hand through her hair, she cuddles closer and sighs.

"I'm going to miss this." She whispers, knowing that it was finally time to talk about her leaving.

"We still have a few days, Lex." He huskily answers, still in denial that they would need to separate again.

"No Mark,we don't. I received a call today from the Administrator at St George's, he said I was needed back to help with an important surgery to complete my residency. My flight leaves at 9 tomorrow night." She answers and sits up to face him.

"Lex…I can't lose you again." he whispers, as the sick feeling filled the pit of his stomach.

"Then you won't…we can make this work, even if it's long distance." She said taking his hands into hers and watched as the emotions crossed his face once he realized what she said.

"Which Fellowship offer did you accept?" He asks with a heavy heart, knowing already that it wouldn't be at Grey Memorial.

"The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, they've got a great Neuro program with several well-known and respected Neurosurgeons, including Doctor Bell, who specializes in Pediatric Neurosurgery. They've also offered me a top position on their next clinical trial, which is part of the second phase from Derek's original research on Alzheimer's and have approved surgical privileges to any hospital in the US or overseas." Lexie stops her rambling to caress the side of his face before continuing. "But do you know what I like the most about that hospital?" she asks and watches him shake his head no. "It's only a 3 hour flight to Seattle or vice versa to Rochester."

"Ah, Lex…. Do you have any idea how much I love you?" Mark asks before kissing the palm of her hand.

"Yep, as much as I love you." She whispers before leaning into him for a kiss, but jumps back as her phone ringing startles them both. Picking it up, she mumbles. "I'm really starting to hate this thing." Looking at the display, she sees that it's Alice and answers the call.

"Hey, Alice… can I call you back…. I'm umm a little busy." She smiles at Mark seductively.

"Lexie, you need to get out of there now! Oh god! I didn't see them….One of them must be a shield, I didn't see them…..they are coming to Seattle….you need to leave now!" Alice shouts as her panic filters through the phone.

"Woah Alice, calm down! Who's coming to Seattle?" Lexie asks nervously, suddenly noticing that the forest noises outside the trailer have become silent.

"Trackers…..bounty hunters! They collect things for the Volturi! Please Lexie, get in the car and get out of town before they find you!" Alice pleads.

Suddenly, something shifts in the air and Lexie realizes that it's too late; the trackers are here.

"It's too late, they already have." She whispers into the phone before dropping it to the floor as the trailer door is ripped off its hinges. Mark gives a startled yelp as he jumps off the couch, but Lexie pushes him behind her as the trackers rush her in their attempt to capture her quickly. Unable to fight inside the confined space of the trailer, while trying to keep Mark safe; their attackers quickly subdued Lexie and pulled her outside.

"Leave her alone, you bastards!" Mark yelled as he rushed out of the trailer toward one of their attackers, but was quickly backhanded so hard that he flew back and landed on the porch, unconscious.

"Mark!" Lexie screamed struggling against her captors, but the bigger and bulker of the pair held her tightly in his arms.

"Shhh, stop it now or I'll have my friend here, rip your human boy toy apart!" growled the tall, thin vampire with shaggy dark hair and blood red eyes. Realizing that she was endangering Mark, she stopped and stood stiffly in her captor's arms.

"MMMM, that's better." He smiled; taking in Lexie's half naked body. "My, my, my, she's a pretty little thing, isn't she, Denz?"

"Yeah, she sure is, Victor." Denz chuckled, enjoying the feeling of her body pressed against his. He hoped Victor would let him play with her before they left to find the Cullen's.

Feeling a rush of fear for both Mark and herself, Lexie tries to focus on pulling her now dormant defensive power to the surface to help fight off the hunters, but nothing is happening! She has no idea what had triggered it before and now knew that the only way they could be saved was if Alice reached out to the wolves for help. She had to stall her captors and hope they could get here on time.

"Who are you? What do you want with me?" she asked at the taller Vampire named Victor.

"Ah….a little British girl….my you are far from home." He smiled, before moving closer and reaching out to take a lock of her hair between his fingertips. "Hmmm soft and such pretty amber eyes….maybe later; business before pleasure, after all." He smiled suggestively, before taking a step back.

"So let me begin by introducing ourselves! I'm Victor and my compatriot is Denz, we are freelance trackers that find valuable items for clients willing to pay our very large finder's fee. As for your second question, well I think that would be easy for you to figure out given the color of your eyes….we are tracking the Cullen family; more specifically, Edward, Alice or Bella." He smirked when he saw the flicker of recognition in her eyes, before continuing. "You see we have a very important client, who would give us anything we desire, if we could bring him just one of the gifted Cullen's and you my pretty little plaything are going to help us find them." Reaching out again, he grabs her chin roughly and asks. "Now it's your turn. What is your name?"

Jerking her face away from his grasp, she glared at him but remain silent. He smirked at her defiance, but knew that she had already betrayed her weakness, when Denz had backhanded the man who had rushed to her aid. She was in love with the human. Giving her an evil smile, he began walking toward the unconscious man, making his intent clear.

"It's Lexie!" she shouted out, knowing that giving them what they wanted was the only way to protect Mark. "My name is Lexie...Cullen."

"Ahh, there it is." He said smiling as walked back to stand in front of the seemingly defeated young woman. "A Cullen, hmm? You don't look like anyone from the pictures I've seen of the Cullen kids. How old are you and who is your sire?"

"I was saved by Carlisle and his family after being in a plane crash 5 years ago." She whispered.

"So you were created after their little show down with the Volturi?" he asked and watched her nod in acknowledgement, now understanding why this newborn wasn't in hiding with the rest of her family.

"Ahh, I see now…. smart of Carlisle to keep you separate from your new family; the Volturi don't know you exist, so you are safe if they try to come after them again." Victor said bragging at his cleverness, but something was nagging at him and he suspected the Cullen's had another reason why they were trying to keep this woman hidden from Aro but decided it was time to get back to his interrogation.

"Now that we've gotten the formalities out of the way, my lovely Lexie, why don't you tell me where they are so that we can set up a family reunion?" He asked, but once again silence was his answer.

"Really, still defiant, even though we are in charge here?!" he shouted, then in a blink on an eye rushed over, grabbed Mark off of the porch and had him kneel in front of her with a moan.

"No, stop!" she shouted in fear and the beginnings of anger at realizing that her stalling efforts had backfired and the only way she can save both her family and Mark would be to give the hunters what they wanted. "Please… don't hurt him…." She pleaded, "I'll give you what you want."

Victor smiled at how quickly he broke her and began to mentally plan out ways of capturing one of the Cullen kids. But her next sentence snapped him back to reality.

"Your client wants a gifted Cullen to add to his collection…. I'm one of those gifted." She admitted and watched as Victor let Mark drop to the ground before reaching out to grab her chin. Looking deeply into her Amber eyes, he could tell that she was telling the truth and chuckled in delight at his new prize.
